What happens on Tython...

I am in the process of making a new character in anticipation to the new time jump. I am also returning from a brief hiatus and as such am not up to date with current events. I did learn that Tython has become inhabitable and the Jedi Order destroyed. Can anyone share any links or information about this?

My character is intended to be a Padawan gone Initiate and I am hoping this transition happens as a result of this major event; that perhaps the character was a survivor or escapee of the disaster, but I do not know if that is possible.

Is it possible to escape? Sounds like it was a surorise attack so the Jedi on Tython had little time to prepare and flee

Unfortunately, no possibility of escape. It was a surprise attack and roasted the whole planet.
