Do we really know who snoke is, his childhood, and his purpose to the First Order? Is he a sith? Is he even a male?
Do we know him enough to have him in a new movie? How will he be introduced as a new character? Where is the transition?

I'm not sure why the three of you think making fun of someone's thread is a good idea but knock it off.

TBH I've watched more videos on this topic than I have anything else revolving around the new trilogy. I personally believe he's an ancient sith and that his childhood/upbringing will be unveiled with Disney's next line of Star Wars films/TV spin-off/ some random project, but I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks.

What's your working theory Jason?

Unless I missed something, very little about Snoke himself is known. I'm guessing "The Last Jedi" will shed some light, or an idea on who or what he is. But I'm guessing he is more... Dark Side then "Sith", which to me, all died with Palpatine and Vader.

I hope he's a returning character - from the old games and books, like Nihilus or Plageoaiaoaos (yes that's how you spell it).

However there is nothing to suggest that is true, or false. Because Disney.

That being said, it's only a couple of weeks before we can all find out!

I also hope it's someone returning instead of just a new randomer. Although I thinking more likely to be a new character so Disney can do what they want with him.

Ive heard several internet theories, one of the most popular being that he is based off of Nihilus. I doubt Disney would straight up bring an old character from Legends directly back, but i wouldn't put it past them to draw inspiration from Legends, similar to how Kylo Ren/Ben Solo has inspiration drawn from Jacen Solo in Legends, without being a direct copy.

I still think it would be cool if he was Plagueis but I doubt it'd be so. It's almost... too on the nose, and while I think it would be cool I think it would also be kind of a let down overall.

I'm also not sure if he's as powerful as we're supposed to think he is. He kind of let Starkiller base go up in flames without even caring that much. That, or he's got something even more nefarious up his sleeve. Guess we'll see in a couple weeks. xD

Thanks guys for the input. My theory is that he is a Sith Lord that took a special interest in Kylo Ren. He might have been the one to convince Kylo to join the dark side. The scars on his face might be from a battle. I definitely agree that afterr the new movie, that we will know more of Snoke and of Kylo Ren

Well we know for a fact that Snoke was a contributing factor to Kylo's fall to the darkside. I doubt hes a Sith Lord and i also hope he isn't one, as the Sith should have ended with Palpatine and Vaders deaths.

Well yes theoretically the Sith should have been destroyed with the second Death Star blowing up, but if there are Jedi's there are always the Sith. There could have been a Sith Lord that was previously a Jedi. Also if Luke taught Kylo the ways of the force from a jedi's perspective, and Kylo went to the Dark side, who taught him? In Star Wars the Force Awakens, when Star Killer base is about to be blown up, General Hux gets orders from Snoke to bring Kylo, because he needs more training. Snoke could be Kylo's mentor.

None of that makes Snoke a Sith, though. Simply a dark sider. Sith is an ideology that reaches higher than merely adopting the path to the dark side. The First Order is vaguely reminiscent of the Empire, but running an Empire does not a Sith make.

I understand your point, but how would Snoke know the dark side of the force? Was there some one who taught him? How did Kylo become a Sith? Who gave him his saber?

Well we know that Snoke is Kylo's mentor in the darkside, though he diesnt seem to have much vested interest in training him beyond what Kylo might need to know to be a useful pawn. But not all darksiders are Sith, so him being a Sith isnt a prerequisite to knowing how to use and teach the use of the darkside.

EDIT: Also Kylo Ren is not a Sith, he is a Knight of Ren. And as far as we know he made his lightsaber.

Darkness calls to those who seek it. Kylo isn't a Sith. I don't think that word is even spoken in TFA (but I can't remember.)

I reckon Luke taught him how to build one and Kylo learned to modify the hilt on his own.

Ok here are the top theories. Source:https://www.ranker.com/list/star-wars-supreme-leader-snoke-identity-theories/tamar-altebarmakian

1. Snoke is Darth Plaguis
As is mentioned in the book The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Snoke says that he “watched the Galactic Empire rise, and then fall.” From this, it can be implied that Plagueis played a key role in the rise of the Empire.

2.Snoke is Mace Windu
Windu did not agree with Anakin on many levels. Windu blamed the fall of the republic on him. There are many theories that Mace survived the fall and therefore got his scars. Also during lightsaber fights between Kylo Ren, Kylo used some of Windu's best moves. Windu might have wanted revenge on the Skywalker family.

3. I will edit after I find more

But where would he get the red bolt?
