future_nade.jpg

Affiliation: N/A (Formerly Galactic Alliance Military)

Ownership: Cobalt (Available for everyone)

Intent: Intended to create a grenade that serves as a force multiplier/evens out the odds for a non-Force sensitive fighting a Force sensitive by giving them a few minutes of reprieve. Mostly intended as a tool for people who have to face Force sensitives on a daily basis.

Model: Y-Type Grenade

Type: Grenade

Size: Grenade-size (8 cm, 4 cm diameter)

Composition: Plasteel, trace elements of durasteel, organic material

Range: Tossing range (effect of grenade, 8x8 meters)

Ammunition Capacity: N/A

Description:

The Y-Type Grenade was a strange piece of cutting-edge classified technology developed by the Coruscanti weapons company OMC Armaments (A front for Galactic Alliance Intelligence) specifically for members of the secret military unit COBALT, though the grenade also made its way into the regular military, and in time onto the black market. The grenade consisted of a plasteel shell with an activation button, containing organic tissue.

The plasteel body contained a cryodevice that kept the organic contents of the grenade frozen. The contents were the pineal glands harvested from genetic material taken from the Ysalamir. The Ysalamir was a being capable of creating a bubble within which a Force sensitive was incapable of exerting any influence over the Force, thus negating their Force powers for a short period of time.

When the grenade was activated, the cryodevice was deactivated, defreezing the gland and simultaneously giving it an electrical shock to activate it, which caused an 8x8 meter Force neutral bubble to be created around the grenade. The bubble lasted only for a short period - according to the manufacturer, less than five minutes - but long enough to give a slight edge or reprieve against a Force user in battle.

After the fall of Coruscant and the Galactic Alliance, the company OMC Armaments went defunct - however, the technology of the grenade, genetic material from pineal glands, and blueprints for the grenade, were smuggled off-world before the Imperial attack, and became available on the black market soon after the planet's destruction. Today, there are a multitude of knock-offs and copies of the grenade. Though expensive and still rare, they are popular with bounty hunters and special operations forces that risk facing Force users in combat.

It should be noted that each grenade can only be used once, as when defreezed, the pineal gland deteriorates quickly in a non-clinical environment. In addition, because of the same rapid deterioration of cloned genetic material, the grenade's bubble can only be sustained for a very short time - unlike with an actual live Ysalamir. In addition, despite the cryofreeze, each grenade has an expiration date due to cellular deterioration as a result of oxygen starvation. After the expiration date, the pineal gland is useless, and thus, so is the grenade. If the grenade is punctured somehow, it is rendered instantaneously useless.

Another downside with the Y-Grenade is that it creates an area of "quiet" in the Force, which is very noticeable to Force Sensitives. This means that while it might buy a person time against Force users in a fight, it may also backfire and draw more Force sensitive enemies to the person, getting them into even more trouble.

I'm sure this is a sensitive subject, so don't pull any punches, and let me know what you guys think. I'm not even sure if this'll be allowed, but I figured I'd see what the reactions will be. Thanks, guys!

Ysalamir are a banned species, so you'd have to do a fair amount of convincing to get me to approve this.

Oh! Damn, I missed that. Sorry!

I'll add some detail though and stuff, and give it a go nonetheless if you don't mind. I think it's still a good concept as long as it's kept within strict limits capabilitywise, and not used as some kind of insta-win Deus Ex Machina against force users.

I think, though I didn't actually put this into words in the writeup yet, the idea is that because a) The genetic material is actually grown in a test tube, and b) it's kept outside of an ideal environment, such as a test tube or an Ysalamir body, its capabilities are severely lower than they would be if it was inside an actual live Ysalamir. The grenade can attempt to mimick the technique of an ysalamir, basically, but it'll never actually reach an ysalamir's capabilities. That's why the time the bubble can exist is really low, it can only be used once, and the bubble is slightly smaller than what an ysalamir can create.

Added another nerf to compensate for Ysalamir being a banned species;

Also removed WIP tag. >_>

So yeah, archiving because even using the genetic material of a banned species is questionable, and we've previously decided that terentatek hide as clothing won't offer any protection against the force, so I don't see how ysalamir material would do otherwise.
