Which brings me to the college issue. On this I do agree with Sanders and I urge you to reexamine your position. If these college graduates graduate gratis but then give back to society (through their job, social reproduction, etc.) aren't they in a sense paying back?

You have an admirable sense of conviction, but in this I urge you to keep learning.

Teach me, I'm willing to learn.

From what I know, most college graduates have a very hard time finding a job post graduation. And if they do find one it is underpaying of what they deserve or sometimes it doesn't even fit in the field to which they studied.

Student loans suck, but what does government interference even include? What is Bernie's actual plan to make college "Free."

In Missouri we have a program called A+ program. The reward if you complete this program is basically the state of MO gives you money to help fund your college education, a scholarship. It is a decent chunk of change and it helps many low income family's like mine go to college.

However you have to earn this. Here is a link: http://dhe.mo.gov/ppc/grants/aplusscholarship.php

This is, in my opinion, the best way for "free college."

The student must work for this and if they do that, then they reap the benefits.

I was very fortunate to get a scholarship; I grew up desperately poor as well so like you I have some personal stakes here.

What I would say is you're absolutely right. Structurally the American (and world) economy no longer guarantees that a college education is the ticket to the somewhat-mythical middle classes. But it sure doesn't hurt. And I think young people (and people in general) should have the opportunity to learn and grow. College may not be for everyone but everyone is for college.

There's more than just getting a job to it (though I would point out that there is a correlation between economic salubrity and educational opportunities as denoted by free college tuition). Certainly while it may not be a guarantee of individual success, in the aggregate we are all better off, and morally knowledge should be as free as possible.

That would be my argument.

@Free Healthcare: I paid a small surcharge and had some insurance covering me when I was fortunate enough to study abroad. I try not to get too real because most of you are cheerful young'uns and I don't wanna come across as SAD OLD MAN, but a harrowing experience at the North West Hospital Trust after... well I had a drinking problem and inadvertently gave myself some major appendicitis. I was treated with compassion, humanity, and great care. Other less dramatic uses of the NHS (including counseling to help me with my problem; it's an everyday thing... some days are better) also went well.

I can't recommend it enough honestly. The care is comparable to my gold-plated upper-middle class employment insurance I get, and I do think there is a moral duty to provide care for all.

The research is out there also on the quality of care in countries with universal health care, if you want me to find them for you. I can't change your mind for you, but I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

Regards,

Prospero

The last time I took this as a teenager I was like, in the blue. Whoops. I guess that graduate education in global environmental policy tipped me over the edge a bit.

Wierd, I can't see it.

I guess the god who I don't believe in doesn't want me to be able to see what I actually believe in to push me closer to him.

Darn it god, that's just plain immature!

Was expecting to be leftier and more authoritarian, but I suppose the compass isn't really accurate/precise.

Looks as though I'm basically in the same place I was a year ago.
