Nar Shaddaa
lQCMlMO.jpg

Hot spots of activity attributed to AMS - a serum meant to combat Force sensitives by creating super soldiers - have been reported across the galaxy for months. Although many had thought the problem was solved, that theory has quickly been proven false.

A recent surge in activity has left thousands in Nar Shaddaa’s most impoverished zones as victims of a new wave of crazed creatures. Infecting all manner of species, those who have escaped the carnage have reported watching men, women, and children alike torn to shreds by the bloodthirsty monsters.

It’s unclear where precisely this new surge sprang from but rumors have begun to abound. Some claim there is a secret lab underground while others claim that the creatures have simply inhabited burrows under the city and now infest a wide range of tunnels with numbers in the millions. Others still claim that the new release of the pathogen could only be explained by an intentional release in the undercity, though the reasons are as yet a mystery. The truth may lie somewhere in the middle.

One thing is for certain - if these monsters aren’t neutralized or contained soon, it threatens to eclipse the entirety of the planet.

“Welcome to the Coruscant Holo Net, I’m Emil Travak reporting live from the second district,” The voice trembled as sirens could be heard in the background, “We have breaking news coming that there has been a massive explosion at the Sector Ranger’s Headquarters building. Hundreds are feared to be dead and it’s unknown whether the Chief is among casualties.”

Emil paused for a moment, glancing behind him as flames could be seen in the distance, along with thick plumes of smoke. Speeders rushed to the scene, “It’s unclear what has caused the attack, and for now it appears to have been a massive explosion to take down the entire building in one fell swoop.”

Dathomir

Those experienced spacers who have traveled along the Hydian Way year after year have always told stories of a sing-song melody that occasionally calls to those who would fly that path alone. Rumours of a forgotten world of witches and magic have begun to resurface, and those who can hear the voice of the Force sense something dark calling to them.

The bravest of adventurers have dared follow the call, traveling to the planet’s surface only to vanish without a trace. The first of these disappearances were attributed merely to stray asteroids or faulty star charts that led to a chance accident, but as more souls have disappeared, people are beginning to have trouble denying that something nefarious stirs on the half-forgotten world of Dathomir.

Nar Shaddaa

Things were going from bad to worse. Conditions were pretty awful on Nar Shaddaa at the best of times, but now the creatures were back. It was the biggest outbreak they'd seen in months and it was getting worse. The zones in question were turning into a chaotic bloodbath, and the other zones were being overrun with refugees. Something had to be done and Nara wasn't going to let her moon be ravaged like that.

She'd already been on Nar Shaddaa for other reasons when it all broke out. The rumours were all over the place, but one common thread that kept coming up in them was underground. The Undercity, or the tunnels, or the haphazard piping and ventilation systems. Having grown up on Nar Shaddaa, she knew those tunnels somewhat well... and she knew how far they ran. If they were lucky, they'd be isolated in a local system. If they were unlucky? Well... it didn't bear thinking about.

Nara knelt down outside an old, abandoned cantina. It was close to one of the hot zones, as close as she dared get without a party of Jedi Knights as back-up. In front of her was an access vent to some of the tunnels that she was trying to force open. Beside her, her droid stood, showing a holographic map of the tunnels she remembered from her youth. This one seemed like the best bet. A little fiddling with the vent door, a bit of manipulation to the wiring near it, try the default emergency access codes again...

As she waited to see her results, Nara transmitted her message again. She'd sent it back to the Order and any local emergency frequencies she could find.

"This is Jedi Knight Nara Allam. I need support on Nar Shaddaa. AMS-related outbreaks are rising and I'm investigating a potential source in the tunnels underneath the planet. Location data to the tunnel I am accessing follows this message."

Dathomir

Dathmir was not a holiday destination but it was a place that Max was going to be spending some of his time it appeared. If he had hoped for an early retirement he wouldn't have picked the desolate planet of dead witches but, hey, when the Force called for you to do something you did it when you were a Jedi. It was in the rules somewhere he was pretty sure.

Of course following the call of the Force was all well and good but this was the first time he had decided to follow the call of literal sirens... or whatever else was going on with the planet. It sang to people passing by and those who landed felt it far more clearly.

He had taken it as something that needed to be investigated but it was only when disappearances started to build up that he realized he needed to make the time for it now. Landing his ship near to some old ruins, he frowned before shrugging.

"Stay with the ship little buddy."

His unnamed astromech beeped at him.

"No I'm not calling you Wheels - keep thinking up a real name buddy."

Striding down the ramp to step out onto the dead ground, he reached out with the Force and frowned a little bit.

"I have a bad feeling about this... which probably means I'm in the right place honestly."

Somewhere else on Nar Shaddaa, a trio of Tiss'Shar were encamped in a safe area not too far from an area where there had been many sightings of the infected. Two of them wore armor, which covered essentially their torsos, backs and part of the skull, to allow them to move freely and bite, while the third was garbed in a protective suit and examining some samples under a microscope. That third was geneticist and Sith Eternal member Iko-Gark-Lokan Jis'tos, who had come to Nar Shaddaa after hearing news of that new AMS outbreak, and he thought it was the right opportunity to examine that pathogen and take some samples for the future.

Izel's mandibles worked nervously, antennae twitching as she listened to the recording again. "This is Jedi Knight Nara Allam. I need support on Nar Shaddaa. AMS-related outbreaks are rising and I'm investigating a potential source in the tunnels underneath the planet. Location data to the tunnel I am accessing follows this message." So she had heard right. AMS, more of those monstrous creatures like the ones she had encountered on Tol Amm. She had thought that horrifying pandemic had been contained. As usual things were never so simple. The thought of facing those things again was terrifying, but she was close, and Nara was a friend. She couldn't just pretend she didn't hear it.

With a sigh the Vratix stood up straight and composed herself before turning to her Padawan. "I'd hoped we'd be a little further along in your training before taking you on a real mission, but duty calls. And they say experience is the best teacher anyway." She turned away from the young Kiffar to go and tell the transport captain she hired that they'd be staying on Nar Shaddaa a little longer. They were meant to be just passing through on their way back to Ajan Kloss, but people needed saving. What else was a Jedi to do? "Get your things and prepare to move." She called over her shoulder. "Oh and I suggest wearing long sleeves, something thick. You don't want to be bitten by these things..."

-THEME-
It was late when she got the call. Decker, Gates, and Exyria, all other M.E.s, called her comm at once. She had been settled back on a narrow couch on the RangeMaster, watching reruns of Emperor In Love. Season 2, a classic for history enthusiasts. But the moment the panicked voices filtered through, she felt it like a punch to the gut. Sickness, dread, and a hollow coldness that numbed her and made every movement excruciatingly clear. She could feel the words impacting her hearing, but she was woodenly looking at the screen, watching lips moving, faces.

Her breathing was shallow, but her voice was remarkably cold, clear.

"I'll be right there."

No time to wait. The flight suit, thermal layer in case of fire, rebreather, pistol, vibroblade, emergency pak and portable surgical triage gurney. This time, there was no feeling in the Force, nothing that echoed from the distance.
Not this time, please, she wanted to beg, but there were no deities to plead bargain with. Nothing but a cold galaxy with a sharp hunger for knocking its' denizens flat.

The emergency sirens to her ride were the only sound. She wasn't sure if anyone talked, or how much time had passed. Let emergency services take over for the fires; she was gonna attend the dead, the injured. So many bodies. Hundreds? And that was a small guess. People on higher levels were missing. Must find them. But first Corran. She had to see him. She had to make sure he was okay, but she couldn't feel past the cold numbness---

"Doctor."

A voice, hard, polite. She looked up, and she was sure she looked ashen. Shock, a grim determination. The Zabrak officer tilted his head. "We need your medical expertise. Please hurry."

She exhaled shakily, hands trembling finely as she pulled on the transparent helmet. If there was smoke of high levels on the levels they could access, she would need it.

You better be alive, dammit. I can't lose again. I couldn't... I can't...

She shut off that thought with a fierce scowl. He would be alive. Or for whomever did this, would have hell to pay.

How exactly she had ended up in a Sector Ranger prison was a story she intended to keep to herself, and those stuck in there with her. Sometimes a job goes bad, sometimes a job isn’t a job at all but a sting, and sometimes it both, or neither. Either way the people she ran with were not those who were ones to speak altogether openly about their failure, and today was one of those days.

Hauled in, processed, and locked away in cells far below the surface, the time they’d been stuck inside had not exactly gone swiftly. And there were only so many games one could play with your cell mates when guards hovered over you day in and day out.

All of that, however, quickly changed.

A thundering explosion shook the building above, rubble and fire spreading suddenly and shaking the very foundations. Marissa herself was thrown to the ground, parts of the roof falling around her, ferrocrete ash filling the air and, fortuitously, the cell gate crumbling against the force and debris.

She was bruised everywhere, half her left arm sliced up through the bright orange prison garb, stinging like hell. But, she knew an opportunity when she saw one, coughing, she called out to her cell mate,

“Well” she coughed the dust away, trying to wipe it from the air around her “I’d say we won’t get a better chance than this” she said with a feigned confidence,

“Don’t suppose someone's here to get us out, do you?”

Weiss rushed through the skies of Corcuscant on a speeder that was probably hitting his his limit as the young Jedi revved it up to the max passing buildings by at blinding speeds so much so that they appeared to be little more than flashy blurs. He had heard the message Emil broadcasted and rushed towards the scene immediately.

Approaching the huge cloud of dust and smoke in a smoldering fiery area Weiss lowered his speeder and jumped off of the vehicle before even properly switching it off. Landing on some of the ruble he swiftly pushed himself off of the crumbled concrete wall pieces and down to the area bellow where several casualties could already be seen as well as a woman, most likely a first responder, trying to help the injured.

The casualties, deaths, property damage and injuries were a huge tragedy but were not the only possible problem. The Sector Ranger HQ held a number of fugitives and criminals all of whom, if they were lucky to be alive, had a perfect chance for escape. Furthermore the perpetrators of this horrible incident could be near and even in league with some of the captives and though not a medic or a healer per say Weiss still thought he should do what he can to help the people in need in any way possible.

''You're a doctor right ?'' the white haired young man asked Ilana as soon as he landed next to her. ''Are there any more confirmed survivors here and do we have any more additional information about the course of action. Also I'm at your disposal ma'am with any help you might need regarding the injured... or entering the ruins.''

"Quiet," the Bothan whispered. The girl in his arms trembled with fear as the footsteps echoed down the alleyway. She let out a whimper before Birsk placed his furry hand over her mouth. "Shhh, shh, shh..."

The girl's mother was on the ground before them. She had been torn apart by some... creature. He had no idea what to make of it. He'd spent years here, gambling, drinking, stealing, lying. And he had never seen something like what was happening tonight.

It was horrifying.

The girl, a human, started to cry. Not now, young one, you were doing so well... The footsteps were getting closer. Heavy, like...

Birsk peeked out, and wished he hadn't have.

It was a wookiee. A massive wookiee. It was covered in blood, and it was sniffing in the air like it had a scent. Birsk's scent. The girl's scent. When the Bothan peeked his head out, the wookiee roared, its lifeless eyes glowing in the paleness of the light, hungry. Hungry for them.

Oh no.

It was supposed to be routine. Corran had gotten into a little tussle on a space station above Tatooine. Some cases of assault were noted. Possible black market trading and the Ranger had captured the victim/witness/suspect for the whole event. The only problem was the little alien had no record or identification in the data-base. At least, any that were available and accessible in the truly frontier Outer Rim. In such a scenario, the Sector Ranger guidelines recommended bringing the suspect to the best station possible for the situation. Coruscant HQ had the most complete records in the galaxy. There was no better place to ascertain Trini (though he called her Trixi several times throughout the voyage) Halrixien's identity and background.

None of that mattered now. Corran stood on a debris-laden ferrocrete sidewalk looking skyward at the disaster. His pristine cadet-like uniform was half coated in the dust and ashes of burning wood, fabric, and people. The young man had be tossed to the ground by the sudden explosion, but he and his charge were far enough away to not be caught in any direct blast. The Sector Ranger Headquarters only burned now. A pyre to injustice. A funeral for the innocent.

In the distance, sirens could already be heard. But the two were here now and there was no time to lose. Corran knelt down shakily in front of Trini, catching himself only just. He unlocked the cuffs around her wrists and stared at her with serious, blue eyes. "Whatever you did, it doesn't matter right now," he said in a hoarse, dry voice, "What matters is that people are in danger." The blond youth rose to his feet, more assuredly this time. "You don't have to come with me, but those people need us, and I could use all the help I could get." Without waiting for a reply, he turned around and bolts towards the urban inferno. Equipped with only a Power 5 blaster, a stun-rod, stun-cuffs, a blast vest, and his wits, the Ranger was going to go save as many people as he could.

The figure in the environmental suit stirred fitfully, moving again for the first time since the crash. They were feeble at first, but gradually, the formerly limp form showed signs of life, the helmeted head raising itself, sluggishly turning to look at its surroundings, the tinted eyepieces impassive as they scanned the darkened control boards and readouts that filled the small space.

There was a muttered curse, muffled by the helmet, and then a pause, before gauntleted hands rose to find the seals around its base. With some effort, the figure lifted off the top of its protective shell, and gasped in a breath of fresh air.

Afterward, it let out a long, piteous groan.

"Ohhh... kriff that hurt!"

Helen Holcomb, ace pilot, sagged back into her seat for a few more minutes before making another attempt to move. Wincing, the young Lepi groped for the release latch of her crash harness, and upon finding it, painfully extricated herself from her position. She stood unsteadily, reaching up to trigger the release for the hatch above her head, and climbing stiffly up through it to stand atop her stricken craft and look around at her surroundings.

The Lepi only knew that this planet was called Dathomir because one of the older star charts had bothered to name it, rather than simply listing the anonymous alphanumeric designation the indicated a world that almost no-one bothered to visit. Seeing what surrounded her, Helen could understand why that was; it seemed like a singularly uninviting place. Around her, great stone formations rose into the air, covered in places by some sort of creeping, red vegetation that reminded the young pilot of some hypothetical illustrations of her home system's 4th planet she once had seen, as imagined by the more lurid species of science fiction author.

"And if I see a squid monster or a tripod walking around, I'm done." She muttered to herself, turning to look down at her craft.

Helen had been proud of her TIE Interceptor, proud because it had been the first spacecraft she could rightly call her own, what with all the credits she had scraped up to pay for it, and the extensive modifications she had made to its systems to make it capable of interstellar flight. Had been, because it was obvious the little ship would never be going anywhere again.

The Lepi climbed carefully down from atop the spherical cockpit pod, looking over the crumpled cooling vanes and badly mangled struts, and felt her long ears drooping. Abruptly, however, she bared her teeth.

"Piece of junk!!"

Helen aimed a savage kick at a buckled Quadanium hull plate, and immediately regretted it. Even the hard boot of her TIE pilot suit didn't protect her from the sturdy alloy, and she found herself hopping on one foot, a stream of curses issuing from her mouth as the appendage throbbed. After some time, she gave a defeated groan, and sagged against her cockpit canopy, sliding down it into a sitting position on the hard stone.

"WELL?!" She called out to the heavens, still glowering. "YOU CALLED, I'M HERE NOW! I'D BETTER NOT HAVE JUST BEEN HEARING VOICES!!"

Trini Halrixien was still sitting where she had been knocked down by the explosion when Corran Velt walked over to release her cuffs. She wore a stunned expression, barely having heard the larger human's words before he turned to sprint off toward the towering column of smoke and flame that had once been the administrative headquarters of the Sector Rangers.

The headquarters of the Sector Rangers, where thousands of people worked.

The little Amaran shuddered, flashbacks to the slaughter of her archaeological team on Raxus Prime coming before her mind's eye. Unsteadily, she climbed to her feet, rubbing her wrists where the binders had been, and shaking her head to try and clear it of the visions.

"Hey! Hey wait up!!"

Before Trini could let herself think, she was running after Corran, her short legs making it a struggle to keep up. The human was correct, of course; there were people who needed help, and though Trini was no Sector Ranger, neither was she as heartless as she had tried to make the others in the cantina over Tatooine believe.

Oh no.

It had been many days since Flood had seen the surface of Nar Shaddaa. Luckily, the dark and dingy sublevels of the Smuggler's moon held about as much light as the smog covered night sky did now, so it wasn't much of an adjustment for his eyes to make. The air up here was better, barely - but the sounds, oh the sounds carrying on the night air were much better. They filled Flood's ears and he had to do his utmost not to let his eyes roll back in ecstasy as he drank them in.

The screams of the destitute masses of Nar Shaddaa echoed everywhere, loud and piercing sometimes and other times thick and gurgling, the unfortunate victim's throat clearly filling with blood as they were ripped asunder by Flood's lovely creations. He'd been tinkering with the AMS virus for months, trying to figure out a way to steer it into evolutionary overdrive. Mindless zombies that killed everything in their wake was an interesting first foothold for the Sith, but without some semblance of control the virus was an ineffective tool.

The malevolent alchemist could feel the force rippling across Nar Shaddaa, the anguish and death filled cacophony around him amplifying his connection to the darkside considerably. There were Jedi here, he could feel them. Flood was not currently near them but would be rectifying that in short order.

For now, his creatures would have to serve as as the welcoming party.

While the human @Nara Allam sat tinkering with a sewer grate a group roving group of monsters, stretching the edges of one of the hot zones wider in a search for more flesh to consume, spotted her. What had been a group of pazaak loving buddies just a few hours ago was now a voracious hunting pack and without hesitation, the trio of AMS inflicted Gungans let loose an inhuman shriek as they began to charge towards her.

The Wookiee that was now hunting @Birsk FanQeete made a madclaw look like Dantooine prairie dog. At first glance, one may have thought that it was covered in the blood and viscera of its kills, but a closer inspection would reveal that the Wookiee's own innards were hanging loosely out of its open belly.

Charging towards the Bothan with a complete disregard for sentient life, the blood-crazed beast would swipe at him with blood and grime covered claws with enough strength to turn duracrete into duracrumble.

The others who found themselves on Nar Shaddaa, @Izel Thral and @Iko Gark Lokan Jistos found themselves safe from the carnage for now, being distant enough from the current hot spots to be in any true danger. That sense of security wouldn't last forever, though - every minute would produce new infected, and new infected needed to eat.

A foot stepped on the planet surface, a foot wrapped in a heavy duty boot. With more of a stomp than a step a small cloud of dust had risen from around it. A tall imposing figure stood cloaked in a dark robe, hood covering it's face as the black cape on it's back swayed with the wind. Malleus looked up at the red tinted sky above him, the hood obscuring his face down to his eyes while a re breather mask adorned with a neck guard hid his lower face. Only the Sith's yellow eyes were visible as they peered into the sky. Eyes full of hunger, eyes full of lust.

The ramp of his ship behind him closed as he made his way across the Dathomir surface. Something called out to the dark figure, a song, or a twisted mesh of screams oscillating through notes. Whatever it was one thing was clear to the hulking Zabrak, the planet or whatever it was that was on this planet was extremely strong within the Dark Side of the Force and it without a shred of a doubt was calling out and Malleus was not the one to be deaf to a call of such power...

The young Padawan didn't like Nar Shaddaa. It was to be nothing but a pit stop on the way back to Ajan Kloss, and he was happy for that. Maybe it was his Kiffar nature to like the wild or the fact that he had been raised on a largely isolated planet like Jedha and then moved to the forest planet of Ajan Kloss. The fact is, Isen was not particularly well-traveled, and he had never been to major city at all, only outposts in largely forested or desolate planets. He certainly never had the displeasure of visiting an ecumenopolis, and he was ready to make his way back to home.

It became clear that despite the intention to scuttle along back to Ajan Kloss, the message from a Jedi Knight named Nara Allam had derailed the train, and it was going to be stuck right here on Nar Shaddaa. "I'd hoped we'd be a little further along in your training before taking you on a real mission, but duty calls. And they say experience is the best teacher anyway. Get your things and prepare to move." Master Thral had told Isen. Well, Isen had to admit that if he was going to stay here, being on his first Jedi mission would be solid consolation. He hated to hear about the bad news, but the thought of giving his skills and talents a go in a live situation was exciting.

"Oh and I suggest wearing long sleeves, something thick. You don't want to be bitten by these things..." Master Thral said to him as an aside. She could probably feel that Isen was getting too high on the chance for action and knew exactly what to say to bring him down to balance...Isen hated wearing sleeves.

"Yes, Master..." Despite the big city, the potential for real harm to innocents, and of course the sleeves, Isen was still pretty excited.

Dathomir

The string of disappearances tied to the stories of malevolent creatures always held the interest of one specific darksider. It was never out of interest to see for herself the existence of such beasts because she knew better than to doubt their presence in the shadows of the Force. She wanted to see whatever it was in case it posed a threat to her own reach for power; nothing like an unchained and unchecked entity to throw a hydrospanner into the devious plans of others. Maeve had listened to the stories, shared some of her own to see if she could alter the truths in the narrative, but eventually it would press her to explore the world of Dathomir and she was not disappointed in what she had felt when she arrived.

From real-space the surface looked untouched and unbothered for centuries, but as Maeve planted her feet onto the world, certainly the call was strong and it was patient. The dark woman frowned as she concealed her face with her mask and began to walk across the rocky terrain of the valley and away from her ship. She was uncertain on how to interpret the dark presence and therefore she would proceed with caution. The tales of Dathomir were of course, tales...centuries had passed since the last witch had lived, but perhaps Dathomir had a soul of its own, one that continued to decay without its caretakers. "Such a waste..." Maeve whispered to herself as she followed along the valley floor to the ruins that she saw prior to landing.

Coruscant

It had started as any other day. Darmus had gone to the office, grabbed some caf and started his search for podrace competitions he could stream while perusing reports and dismissing requests for anything more than an extra powerpack. He'd been on office duty on Coruscant ever since he was deemed unfit for the more militaristic way the Sector Rangers did business now and truthfully he was fine with that. Every now and then he was assigned to an investigation when they needed someone to slice into the culprit's datapad unnoticed or wanted to contact an underworld slicer through the Net, but generally speaking Darmus didn't even carry his blaster anymore. No use if you're never going to use it anyway, right?

At about ten the forty-something ranger read something about 'suspect x and suspect y were eating some noodles' and the craving suddenly hit him, so he took an early lunch and that more than likely had saved his life. He had the noodle shop in sight when the ground shook violently and a giant explosion all but shattered his eardrums. Cries for help and general screams of panic followed almost instantly as an eery orange glow illuminated the entire sector. "Can't be?" Darmus stammered and grabbed his communicator to reach HQ. "No response?" Kriff, who else could he contact? Ofcourse, that rising star. "Corran, pick up! Are you at HQ?"

Darmus just stood there in the middle of the street and stared at the inferno. He didn't move away and he sure as hell didn't dare move in further, yet.. though as always Corran would probably say just the right things. If he survived whatever that was.

Dathomir

Hannibal had been away from the smuggler's moon for some time, busy with other tasks on behalf of the Jedi and investigating potential Sith activity. Eventually he'd had a strong desire to return to his usual stomping ground and flown back to Nar Shaddaa, visit some of the standard neon-lit bars, and reacquaint himself with the local goings-on. Instead, however, he'd found himself redirected toward a different planet entirely. His instincts guided him as they always did, vague whispers in the Living Force drawing him to a planet far from his original intended destination. At least he recognized the place, from records if not from personal experience.

The planet of witches and sorcery, Dathomir. The young Jedi had never been there himself on account of it being well outside his area of expertise. He generally worked with people in some capacity, most commonly urban areas, not places like this. But the siren song had power behind it and Hannibal was unusually sensitive to the ebbs and flows of the Living Force. Even if he had chosen to ignore it, once he began to pick it up it would bother him until he did something about it. Thus, here he was.

The Catspaw approached the planet swiftly, flying toward a grouping of ruins and flora-covered stone formations. To Hannibal's mild surprise there was already a ship landed in the area. Well, 'landed' was something of a strong word for what the TIE-model fighter had achieved from the look of things. More like a controlled crash, if anything. The poor thing looked absolutely trashed, and he somehow doubted the diminutive Lepi kicking it had done the damage.

His ship landed smoothly on the dusty earth, the departure ramp sliding down shortly before Hannibal himself made his appearance. He had gone for practical attire on account of his course change, two lightsabers clipped to the left of his belt and his RSKF blaster pistol slung from a hanging holster on the right, joined by a simple vibroknife and the usual slew of generic Jedi utility belt stuff. His seeker droid Ego floated behind him, idly scanning the unfamiliar environment as Hannibal stepped down the plank. His astromech, still inside the aging ship, locked down the ship behind him as per standard procedure.

Hannibal immediately decided he didn't like this planet. The strange 'singing' in the background of everything kept drawing his attention and something kept triggering his sense of danger in the most vague way possible. He suspected they were related, but it was distracting. He turned to look at the Lepi and what used to be a ship and set his face into his standard almost-a-smirk before making his way over toward the downed TIE fighter and its pilot.

"Yo! Small galaxy, eh?" he offered in greeting, stopping at a respectable distance from the young lady. "You certainly look like a person who is not having a good day." Something told him that a crashed pilot wasn't the reason he was here, but that didn't mean he couldn't offer a little help. The planet was going anywhere, after all. Probably.

"It's not that hard-" Preef said while placing a fresh powerpack into his blaster, "-just place the explosion device against the sewer was at the right coordinates and we should be able to reach the prison. The Crimson Dawn Enforcer had been able to pick up some general scoundrels from the Coruscanti underworld who were too scared to go up against an actual enforcer -them being a rare sight- and armed them with blasters and some explosives. Marissa had been captured by rangers after their last job in the Core together and he owed it to her to do everything in his power to rescue her. The prison was known to be in the sub-region at approximately the same level as the sewers for the buildings above and going through them was a lot easier than blasting your way through dozens of Sector Rangers.

"So according to this device we should actually be close," the human scoundrels said without taking his eyes away from the little gps tracker in his hand, "signal is a bit spotty out here, but it should-"

Suddenly the sewer pipe started shaking violently and showing cracks as it came under extreme pressure from outside. The sound of the tremendous explosion happened a bit later but was amplified due to the pipeline and almost knocked Preef straight off his feet. "What the-" his eyes widened, "Was that?" he turned towards the scoundrel with the explosives, but they all knew that whatever it was that just went boom wasn't caused by them.

Instinctively, Preef unholstered his blaster and motioned for them hurry the kriff up. "Hurry!" The closer they got to their destinations the more cracks the sewer pipeline showed and the rodian feared for the worst, but there was only one way of knowing for sure, so they decided to blow a hole anyway.

Boom, an anti-climactic aftershock to what had happened just a minute ago, but Preef was nevertheless looking at a row of cells covered in dust and rubble. Parts of the ceiling was gone and a thick layer of dust made visibility a nightmare. "Did we do this?" the human scoundrel asked, but Preef was too preoccupied to answer and he dashed through the dust, "Marissa!?"

The Wookie's bloodcurdling roar could be heard for blocks as it charged down on the Bothan ( @Birsk FanQeete) and the child. As it neared the pair it's horrible visage would be lit by the flashing emergency lights, a terrifying image revealed with each pass of the light. Just as it lifted it's gigantic paw to swipe down on the pair a high powered blaster shot would ring out through the alley. The Wookie would stagger back a smoldering hole in it's left breast. If the Bothan would look where the shoot came from he'd see Darro in his full armor and kit, cycling the heat in his rifle for another shot.

The Wookie would roar again and come for Darro seeing him as the now greater threat, but it was just too far away. The Kiffar aimed carefully and shot again, this time nailing the creature in the skull, though not much was left of it after the bolt connected. The lifeless body would be carried forward a few more feet by momentum before falling with a thud to the ground. He waited a moment longer just to make sure the beast was down before he stepped past it and slung his rifle over his back.

"Of course I run into you again out here," he said as he knelt down next to the Bothan, whom he recognized from a previous encounter on the smuggler's moon. The girl he'd never seen before, but it didn't take a genius to put together what happened from the mangled body of the woman. He drew his twin pistols and looked back to the Bothan after a quick scan of the alley, no doubt the sound of his rifle had drawn the attention of more of the creatures. "Don't know what the hell's going here friendo, but I say you draw whatever peashooter you got and we see if we can make it back to my ship." He stood and kept his eyes scanning and started to move. "I don't plan to slow down for you...either of you, you match my pace or die here."

The bounty hunter had traveled to many places in his life, seen a lot of kriffed up shit. This however was slowly becoming the worst thing he'd ever seen. He made his way to the alley intrance, so far it seemed clear. He made sure his pistols were fully loaded and prepared himself. No matter how bad this got, he refused to let this hell hole of world be his grave today.
