Haha, yeah they can be tricky at times, just remember if you don't know how to spell it, look it up and whatnot. A rule of thumb of mine is to never pick a race that is common, cause there is hardly creativity in it (for me at least). Take your time, I'm gonna be on a vacation for a few days...

Yeah it would be nice for my character to have a friend, (since he looks like a devil, who can blame him) and as for waiting time for a good backstory, don't worry about it, I'm a huge procrastinater at backstories, and even when I do get them right the grammar part usually takes a toll on me.

Welcome Spyder, I myself am thinking of a new character to make, who starts off really young in the jedi. Still need a good backstory though. I think my character whould be a Devaronian myself. There I go plotting again, please excuse me for that, I can't wait to see your character dearie.

Thanks TAC and Darkwas, I'm personally trying to have my character not one of the normal species (Human, Twi'lek, Zabrak, etc.) But i'm having a hard time with it myself, my previous two characters were A Chev and a Tusken Raider. I hope that answers your question.
