The Arcanist was back, but armed with far more knowledge this time than last. He had returned to the Unknown Region and scoured the teachings of the Sith Eternal to find evidence of what this place was.

The enclave here on Tund had once been the home of the Sorcerers of Tund. Around the time of the fall of the last Sith Empire, they had been led by Darth Cain, who had disappeared around the time of the Imperial fall. It had been suspected he was killed in the final battle along with the rest of the Sith, but Talak now had his suspicions.

Deep in the jungles of the region, he waited. His mask was in place but his eyes were shut behind it as he waited deep in meditation. The last time he had been here it had nearly cost him dearly, and this time he was far more prepared. He channeled the darkness of the Arcanist and one of his hands ran unconsciously over his forearm. The deep burns to his forearms were healed, but the scars would linger for the rest of his days. The tissue was twisted and most of the sensation was gone.

He needed to be prepared for whatever may come.

Another member of the Sith Eternal had responded to his request for a partner in this particular expedition. He didn't know the man - which meant he didn't trust him - but he didn't want to risk the life of someone else down here with him. It sounded brutal, but for all the good Talak wanted to do, he was still a darksider. He would need to be to survive what would come.

Myr Khandros had landed some distance away from the meeting point. Not out of any desire to approach his fellow cultist out of a desire for stealth, the jungle was just too thick for him to find a suitable landing point nearby. Confronted with the prospect of trekking through the jungle, Myr had originally planned on going as himself. The freedom to move through the jungle without the encumbrance of masks or robes. A thought had nagged at him however, and a sense of paranoia at meeting the Arcanist slipped into his mind. The man wore a mask, and Myr had always been cautious of doing cult activities without some sort of alais.

And then, there was the Shadow. He could feel it slip into the niche of his fear, his eyes turning to the helmet of Mardos Ren. The leather and robes of his Ren outfit would not be fun to navigate the jungle in. Before he could think on it further however, he was already settling the helmet over his head. Myr could feel the Shadow’s cold embrace settle over him as he opened himself to it and became Mardos Ren. Opting to leave the cape and glaive behind, Mardos depart into the jungle.

Mardos worked his way through the jungle quickly, the years spent exploring the jungles of his youth coming in handy. He left very little in the way of a trail that could be followed, barring little disturbances he intentionally made. A broken twig here, a scraped piece of bark or a knotted vine there, all indicating the path back to his ship, invisible to one who didn’t know where to look. He could feel the darkness ahead, radiating outwards from what was no doubt the Arcanist’s goal.

”Hello there, Arcanist.” The deep base of Mardos’ voice scrambler emerged from the trees before he dropped down, landing gently on the jungle floor in front of the meditating cultist in a crouch. ”Mardos Ren.” He stated in a simple introduction.

The Arcanist's eyes snapped open at the approach of another person. He could sense the subtle darkness in the Force - indeed there was no reason not to sense one another - but both of them were eclipsed by the darkness that radiated from the enclave. It was the goal and prize.

Ren, he said with a nod. He stood in one smooth motion. It was his second time meeting a Ren, and he'd decided that barring large numbers of them, he had no reason no to simply address them each as "Ren." Actually, wasn't there a distinction? He thought he recalled that Ren was the name of their leader specifically... but they all had Ren in their names. Perhaps he was forgetting. He wasn't entirely sure he cared to differentiate. He had very mixed feelings about the Knights in general. Their senseless desire for death went against his own personal views, but they had their uses. And most of them were happy with those "uses."

The thoughts rapidly ran through his head as he moved toward the entrance of the enclave. He of all people shouldn't judge someone just because of the group they were a part of.

He started walking up the path, clearly knowing where he was going as he headed up behind the waterfall to where he knew the hidden door was. They would have to leap across the gap, but with the Force such a maneuver was simple.

Do you know anything about this place? Its history? he asked. The answer would be a useful starting point to discuss what they were here for.

Ren. The name on its own felt incorrect. ”Mardos, if you would.” Myr preferred to have a name, even if it wasn't his own. Following the Arcanist through the jungle, Myr couldn’t help but admire the beauty of the jungles of Tund. He also couldn’t help but notice the subtle signs of corruption as they approached the mystery destination.

The Arcanist clearly knew where he was going, which meant he had been to wherever they were going before. And he was coming back. Wracking his brain for memories of Tund, Myr took this knowledge into consideration. ”Tund. Like the Sorcerer’s of Tund?” He asked as they approached the waterfall. ”Old Sith sorcerer’s right? Dark alchemies and magic. Always wondered if that stuff was real.”

Myr was thankful that the voice modulator in his helmet hid the curiosity in his voice. The Sith supposedly had possessed powerful magic that could warp reality. If it was real, he was interested.

Mardos, he said with a nod. That was easy enough. No point in being difficult with a new ally. They continued through the jungle and up to the back of the waterfall where he leapt across the opening. It was a large jump, but with the Force, he landed on the other side without difficulty.

It's very real, he assured. His own title that the galaxy had started to know was born out of Talak's study in alchemy. It had nearly limitless potential, and Talak wanted to capitalize on it. If there were records of ancient rituals here, then he'd like to see what they had discovered.

He glanced down at the hole in the ground where he had spilled his own blood in a ritual to save Trys. It still had the appearance of dried blood, and it was a grim reminder of what they'd face inside.

He paused at the entrance, looking inside and wondering what horror awaited him inside this time. It couldn't have been worse than the last time, could it?

This place is hostile, he said, looking over at Mardos. The fact that a "place" could be hostile was odd but true. He paused a moment before taking the plunge into the blackness.

He lit his lightsaber to cut through the darkness, seeing the same markings of the old Empires that he had seen last time he was here. He reached the same point as before and a whisper seemed to carry on an unnatural gust of wind. The whisper couldn't be understood, but it was clear that this place was very much alive.

The memories sent a chill down his spine, and his gut dropped. He paused again before pressing on.

At the far end of the tunnel, it looked like there was a shadow shifting along the wall. It was there and then gone, and neither of them would be sure that they'd actually seen something. If Mardos was familiar with the feeling it would give the distinct impression in the Force of them being hunted.
