Mustafar, Sith Planet, 1400 Hours

(OOC: Death Enabled.. join at your own risk..)

Dantooine was a failure.. Renjin hadn't anticipated Raze arriving and slaughtering his entire cell in one fell swoop. The Shistavanen had taken months to recover from this loss, and spent time with the families of the ones who lost their sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers. Renjin needed to avenge their deaths. He needed for their deaths to not be in vain. So he had made a plan. Raze was in the North. The Sith had a large amount of defenders in that region. But the South.. that was another story entirely.

Gathering a new cell he would not forget his former cellmates, but he could not brandish the name Hellhounds any longer. Instead he had a new name and the cell would be accompanied by many, many different cells. They had to strike as hard as they could on this planet. The Sith had to pay. With as many of the vessels they could get their hands on, as well as their own personal vessels they would arrive and begin their strikes. Attacking with as much haste as they could, and with as much firepower as they could. The target for Renjin was the stronghold for the Sith in the western hemisphere of Mustafar. Dawning his armor ( link )(variant of the link) he was equipped with his blasters, and had a set of thermal detonators on his persons. If he was going down.. so were as many Sith as he could manage.

Arriving with his cell he had called out for their targets,
"Kill any Sith and Sith sympathizers here. We'll need to slice into the building and I'm sure there will be Sith waiting on the other side. Strike with precision and with authority. We can't hesitate.. control room is in there somewhere let's take control of it and remind these Sith they aren't the ones in control anymore. Roll out Wolfpack!" The members would respond with a thunderous "Yes Alpha!" and then the mission began.

Renjin took one last look at the photo of Roxie and Roscoe he had before placing it back in his vest pocket. This was for them.

Zayn was amongst the first to volunteer for the attack on Mustafar. Despite much of the idealism of some Jedi, Zayn knew that the ceasefire between the Jedi and Empire wouldn’t last - and there was a small part of the Corellian that didn’t want it to. With people like Raze and Anaris in control, the Empire would always pose a threat wherever it existed - and Zayn was committed to contributing to its downfall across the Galaxy.

The Corellian spent much of the journey within the passenger compartment of the transport, socializing and singing with his fellow Resistance fighters. He had spent copious amounts of time with other members of the Resistance over the course of the war, and he often found a deeper sense of comradery than with some of his fellow Jedi. He wasn’t ignorant to what had happened over Dantooine with Renjin, and Zayn was committed to making sure this wouldn’t turn into another slaughter of Resistance troopers.

As the transported landing, Zayn marched down the ramp and onto the surface of Mustafar - the towering spires of Sith Citadel looming just ahead. The Knight was dressed in his basic Jedi robes, complete with a utility belt and twin sabers clipped to his belt. Zayn hoped that their sudden attack would catch the planetary defenders off guard - many of whom were likely still in the North after the attack on Korriban.

Unclipping one of his sabers into his left hand, Zayn immediately took the lead in front of the Resistance fighters - prepared to engage the first Sith that stepped up to oppose them.

Fynn had been taking his time to work with the Resistance and when the ceasefire seemed to be null, the Councilor decided to take action much like his allies do. Word had gotten around that Renjin had grouped up a strike force to hit the Sith again, but this time in the Southern regions. The Sephi knew he needed to be there this time to ensure a victory for the Resistance came this time. They can't have forces sent out and just ruthlessly murdered with no gain. They needed this.

Arriving he was dawning his Jedi wanderer robes and would prepare for battle against the Sith. He had faced many in his past, killing one. If it comes this time he needed to kill another he would not hesitate for the Sith have far too many that can't be redeemed.

"Captain Renjin, we can handle it from here. Ensure the fight on the southern regions is secured. Take the Wolfpack with you." Renjin gave a look to Fynn before nodding and making movements south. Returning his focus to the soon to be battle, the Sephi noticed Zayn was here as well. It was good to see more Jedi make the effort.

"Alright now Zayn.. we work together. We can't lose focus here." Fynn said as he made it to the right side of Zayn and unclipped his lightsaber hilt, igniting only one side of the hilt with it's orange hue and black core. The saber of Zeel remained on his belt to his left side. "For the Resistance.."

The alarm had been raised when the unauthorized ship had landed, and even from here, beyond the nexus of Dark Side energy that swarmed the planet, Varyn could feel the Light of the Jedi. But, like on Korriban, it threatened to be smothered.

Varyn stood in the tower and looked down as they disembarked. He could already make out the flashes of blasterfire in the distance as security troops exchanged fire with Resistance forces. But more notable beyond that was the presence that accompanied them. Though Varyn had never met the new Jedi Councilor, he did know what it felt like to be in the presence of Force-users of great power, and there was no question that this was one of those cases. He wondered silently to himself if they were outmatched, but he also knew that even powerful Jedi could be felled when the odds were against them.

Varyn reached down and grabbed his helmet, slipping it on over his head and sealing it, but leaving behind the hood. He already knew that his two sabers were clipped to his belt and the rest of his usual gear was in its place. He reached down and let his right hand brush against the saber on his belt in a comforting gesture. In all the time he had been in the Sith, he had yet to truly face down another Jedi. He'd killed Resistance, local security, terrorists, and any other number of enemies of the Empire, but not Jedi.

Despite the slight pinprick of pain he felt in his chest, he knew there was no turning back or turning aside. He had made his choice, and the only way to see it through was to drive the Jedi to submit or drive them into the dirt.

It was for the greater good. His decision was made.

We shouldn't even let them gain the building. A foothold is all they need, he said, eyes flicking over to Altair. He'd fought alongside the Tiefling more than most in the Empire and had reached a point where he was quite comfortable fighting side by side. They were familiar enough with each others techniques to complement one another.

But I'm not interested in fighting a Councilor at range... or in a space where I can't maneuver, he added. The inner antechamber might serve as an adequate location. They had home-field advantage, and that meant the opportunity to engage the Jedi where they chose. And Varyn was a pragmatist... he'd use any advantage he could get.

Altair was a man that often found himself in the front lines. Today was no different. He nodded in response to Varyn, making his way over to the courtyard area located right outside of the main entrance of the base. He wore a sealed helmet and his usual armor with no cape. Not one to carry sabers, Altair sported a Matukai glove on his right hand and the Queen’s gauntlet on the left. His wan-shen was clipped on his hip.

“They brought a powerhouse,” Altair agreed quietly as he channeled the Force to himself and his limbs. The two Sith were positioned in the courtyard, ready to engage as soon as the Jedi emerged. He knew they were outclassed, but the tiefling wasn’t afraid. If he wanted to lead the Sith one day, he needed to demonstrate that he wouldn’t back down from any kind of threat.

The Jedi would have to cross into the courtyard to spot the Sith and engage. Until then, the Sith wouldn’t move any further.

Making their way through the area, Fynn would lead Zayn to the courtyard to make it through the building. As they came forward Fynn began taking note of everything around him. They hadn't come across a single Sith yet. Which was odd, this was a Sith planet. These facilities all manned by the Sith. Something felt off. Felt wrong.

"Zayn keep an eye out, they must be waiting to strike.." It wouldn't wrong to assume so with the tactics the Sith often displayed. Fynn began trying to listen in on the area maybe to hear some sort of breathing, or quiet chatter between the two. They movements would be enough to be picked up by his hearing as well. When he heard them speak of Fynn as the powerhouse, he knew they were here in the courtyard. It was time.

Coming out into the open, Fynn stood at a short distance away from the Sith with his black cored, orange blade ignited on one side of his slightly longer hilt. His eyes set onto both the Tiefling and the armored Sith. The one he could recognize at this moment was Altair. The Imp has made a name for himself and hasn't gone under Fynn's radar. Something quite different with him was that he leaned on Matukai. Being close to his enemy is his friend. Fynn will see how well he can keep the fight at a distance.

As for the other, he was not sure who was behind that mask, but for now Zayn would be the one to handle him. Fynn wanted the higher ranking Sith. Even fights were much more fun. Fynn dawned a defensive stance and would wait for the first move to be made.

As he crossed into the courtyard, Zayn couldn’t help the way his gaze narrowed ever-so-slightly - fixating onto the pair of Sith that were waiting to greet them. Though he didn’t recognize the masked Dark Sider, Zayn didn’t have to guess who the horned enemy was. Whether it was Ruusan or his multitude of military successes, Altair was a figure increasingly well known amongst Resistance and Jedi circles. He knew that this would be no easy fight, even with the strength of a Sith Councilor at his side. The Force quietly channeled into the Knight, preparing himself for what was almost inevitable.

“Don’t suppose I could convince either of you into fucking off?”
Despite the smirk, Zayn already knew what their answers would be. He didn’t hesitate to unclipping the hilt from his belt - igniting the golden blade of his saber with a characteristic snap-hiss. He didn’t miss how Flynn postured to Altair, and the Corellian promptly flicked his attention to Varyn - appraising his opponent from across the courtyard.

…And proceeded to glance over as Flynn did nothing but stare down menacingly at the Tiefling. Zayn blinked once and glowered at the Councilor out of his peripheral vision, not about to entertain the idea of being put onto the defensive or waiting for the Sith to make the first move. Impulsive perhaps, but was an uphill battle and Zayn was going to seize every opportunity available to him.

While Flynn effectively took a nap, Zayn reached out with his right hand - allowing the Force to flow outward. He attempted to coil his grasp around Varyn’s legs and pull them backwards - aiming to knock the Champion onto his ass and pull him in the process. With his saber in his left hand, Zayn positioned the blade vertical in front of his body - prepared to defend himself accordingly. He didn’t completely ignore what Altair was doing - knowing full-well the Tiefling may take the opportunity to single him out while the Councilor stood his ground.

Altair saw the two Jedi emerge and noticed the Sephi eyeing him. He heard the other Jedi speak but kept his focus on the Councilor. The Force would abruptly coil around his neck without warning as he yanked the man to the side and in front of Zayn. The almost 7 ft tall behemoth would easily block any line of sight and become an immobile wall in front of Zayn, giving Varyn an opening. Altair would compress on that hold.

Not one to wait around and stare, he rapidly began to advance on the Jedi at the same time, quickly closing the distance.

Varyn plucked both saber hilts from his belt as he descended to the antechamber area to confront the two Jedi. They blocked the men's path, and Varyn watched as the Councilor didn't move. He half-expected the other Jedi to do the same, standing there and simply staring, but he was mistaken. His mocking comments didn't need to come out, it seemed.

He sensed what was coming from the Jedi as he reached out with the Force, but this was Varyn's specialty. Rather than let his feet get yanked out from under him, Varyn crouched his weight forward, lowering his center of gravity and leaning forward, letting the pull drag his entire body along the ground rather than yanking his feet out from under him. Jedi - or Sith - balance was second to none, and for a dueling specialist, it was even more critical.

Varyn's left hand formed a fist, scraping along the ground to provide an additional point of stability as his right hand saber activated.

Pulled toward the pair of Jedi and with the Councilor pulled toward the Sith, it would break Zayn's line of sight to force off further manipulation. It would also allow Varyn to make a single, diagonal slash from his own bottom left to upper right to cleave through the Councilor's legs low.

As was typical of Form X, the blows were designed to strike, but lacked the heavy power and follow through of many of the forms and more favored Makashi in its style of strike.

Distracted by the pulling choke, the Councilor would hopefully have a much more difficult time in also evading the Champion's attack.

Zayn couldn’t help but grit his teeth - catching sight of the movement in the direction of Altair and is peripheral. Somehow, the Jedi just knew that taking an openly defensive posture was going to come back to bite them in the ass - especially against two especially deadly combatants.

While his pull found initial success against Varyn, his grip in the Force effectively vanished the moment that Fynn was skid sideways to block his field of vision. With a seven-foot behemoth of a Councilor blocking his path, Zayn made the quick decision to abandon pursuit. Instead, he immediately darted to his own right - cutting a path lateral from where the Councilor had been yanked.

Hazel eyes fixed onto Altair as Zayn advanced forward - the Force flowing outward to coil tightly around the Tiefling’s torso. Rather than a prolonged pull, Zayn attempted to yank the Tiefling abruptly towards himself to change trajectory and close the distance. While the Tiefling could likely resist the pull, the Jedi’s primary aim was to interrupt the Tiefling’s choke on Fynn. Past that? The Councilor was capable of handling himself.

Regardless of the result of his pull, Zayn continued to advance on the Tiefling - stopping just as he came into melee range. Bringing his left foot forward, Zayn thrusted his saber forward - aiming to piece the golden blade into his right pectoral. His right hand lingered close to his hip, prepared to respond accordingly.

As Fynn prepared to fight, he felt the force yank him from the coil on his throat. A well versed move, his opponent was no lacky, not that he thought he was, just comes to show how strong in the force he was. As Fynn would skid over in front of Zayn, the Sephi was glad that the Knight was experienced enough to change targets as he would turn to attack Altair. That left Fynn to deal with Varyn.

The Sith Champion began his attack while the hold was on Fynn, so the Councilor would have to act quick with the hold being broken thanks to the interruption by Zayn. Fynn would use his ignited blade to block the strike from the Champion's right, saving his legs, and as he did he would step to the side away from Varyn, saving himself from an attack from behind, and use the force to slam Varyn's head into the ground, with him leaned forward and legs bent as they were, he would have little strength to stop the attack, not to mention the strength of a Councilor being much higher than Champion.

Fynn was ready to see who was under that mask.

Perhaps the yank would have been effective if Altair himself didn’t do the same exact thing seconds prior. He saw Zayn preparing to dart out from behind the Councilor and that gave him enough time to close the distance towards the Councilor and channel the Force. As the Force coiled around his torso, Altair doubled down, skidding only slightly as his own choke on the councilor effectively collapsed the Sephi’s throat. Banking entirely on the Knight’s attack for his defense would be his undoing. Altair never released his hold, collapsing the man’s throat and breaking bones as he casually tossed him in Zayn’s path if the Knight still pursued with the saber thrust.

If Zayn still pushed through, Altair still wouldn’t release the grip on the Sephi. As the saber thrust came, Altair would pivot and jump to the side to allow the saber to pass him, putting himself perpendicularly facing Zayns’ left side and outside of his guard.

Varyn could see Zayn pass by him, just barely to the side as he skirted around Fynn, and he didn't seem to pay any heed to Varyn. The Sith would use that to his advantage. He twisted his wrist slightly to the side and pressed the button on his saber to activate it, sweeping it slightly up in the same motion. Not that he needed to, however. Zayn ran past him without regard, and the Jedi's own forward momentum would cut off his own legs like a super-heated plasma trip line. Varyn slashed up to meet him just for good measure, though.

Varyn could feel the saber strike blocked by the Councilor, but it was only a single piece of the puzzle. As the Councilor's throat would collapse under the weight of the crushing choke, his follow-up attack on Varyn would never come.

Even if Fynn had gotten the strike off, Varyn's helmet would protect him from the worst of the strike... not that that would have been fun, but it'd keep him alive at least.

Varyn, however, now had free reign to move in and finish off whatever might have been left of the Jedi Knight.

While Zayn knew from reputation alone that his opponents were dangerous, the simple truth was that the Corellian hadn’t anticipated to what degree that was a reality - much to his own consequence. Whether it was overconfidence in his speed, or perhaps sheer poor judgment - Zayn almost completely took his gaze off of Varyn - attention fixed onto Altair completely. His attempt at a Force-pull and incoming saber strike meant that he didn’t catch a glimpse of what Varyn was doing until it was far, far too late.

Recognition only flashed in the Jedi’s eyes when a flash of crimson swung from his peripheral. Almost instinctively, the Knight pushed off his left leg and attempted to save himself from the plasma trip-wire - though it only worked to partial, inconsequential effect. As Varyn followed up with the additional swing, the crimson blade cut completely through Zayn’s left leg, and proceeded to slice deep into the flesh and bone of his right calf, just below the knee.

While the limb was still attached - dangling on by a mere few inches of flesh - the effect was largely the same as if Varyn had executed the dismemberment completely. Molten agony surged through the Knight as he toppled forward and to the right, in the same trajectory as his attempted dodge. The Force pull on Altair fell short, and the follow-up thrust never came.

The air was promptly filled with Zayn’s agonized screams as the Knight fell into the mud - face knitted up in more pain than he’d ever experienced thus far in his life. None of his training as a Padawan, experience as a Knight or anything else could have prepared him for what he experienced in that moment. While dismemberment by saber prevented blood loss and cauterize the injury, it did nothing to dull the agony.

As could be expected, Zayn’s attention was far from the battle itself in that moment. Whatever became of the Jedi Councilor, the Knight was only vaguely aware of it - his vision blurred and spotted with white. While he wasn’t unconscious - still somewhat lucid through the shock - there was no immediate follow-up after having both legs cut off.

Fynn trusted in his Knight companion to deal with Altair whilst he looked to fight on. It seemed.. Fynn had trusted Zayn a little too much as Zayn had failed to stop Altair's grip on the Councilor's throat. The air pipe had closed and the Sephi could no longer feel any air flow as he felt something in his neck crack..

A coursing pain filled his neck and head.. but only that.. the rest of his body had gone limp. His grip on his saber lost as it fell to the ground and his arms collapsed. His entire body would have fell as his legs went numb and useless, but Altair held him up in the air by the throat. How could the mistake of one Knight lead to his death so fast.. so unexpected. But this what he took the risk of.. coming here with the chance of dying a warrior's death. His eyes open still, but his vision blurring.

It was an odd sensation of coldness filling his face on the lava world. Pilot's vision growing smaller and smaller as he would see nothing but darkness. This was it. This was the end.. He knew it was over. He had lost. His final thoughts on if Zayn had been able to escape.. whatever the case he did not blame Zayn.. this was his choice to be here. Now he reaped the consequences of his actions. There was silence.. there was peace.. there was only the Force..

There was a sick crunch as the councilor’s throat was crushed under his grip. The Sephi fell into a heap on the ground. Altair remained standing where he was, an eerie silence falling around the courtyard save for the pained noises of the remaining Knight. The tiefling trained his gaze ahead out towards the fields of lava. He knew this would make Holo news, he knew his name would be splashed all over the place for this. He knew he would have attention back on him all over again.

He desired every bit of it. He relished every bit of it. He loved the sound of crushing bones. He loved that sensation of bringing down a titan like the Jedi Councilor. He felt like a king, and it was a feeling he craved and wanted to hold onto. It was a high greater than any spice.

Altair slowly turned to look at Varyn. He trusted the other man through it all. He knew this was only the beginning of them waging a war across the galaxy.

“Do it,” The modulated voice stated. The faintest smile began to tug at his lips, one he wouldn’t recognize if he looked at himself in the mirror then.

Varyn felt that very-familiar sensation of momentary resistance as superheated plasma met another object and tore directly through it. He knew without having to look that his blade had found its mark, and as he spun to face the downed Jedi, he didn't have to run to pursue him anymore.

The man's cries of pain and agony momentarily fell on his ears and a part of him winced. But he blocked them out. They just became one more dying scream on the battlefield, another number to be added to the list of those that Varyn had seen die. Death came for them all in the end, and for Zayn, that death's name was Varyn Atrix, Sith Champion, former-Jedi Knight.

The hum of his blades snapped out as he moved over next to the Knight. The truth was he didn't hate the man. He could have been Varyn in another life, but this wasn't that life. This was a galaxy that was hard and cruel and needed a strong hand to guide it. It needed something the Jedi had failed time and again to give it.

He knelt next to the Jedi for a moment, hearing the sound of Altair behind him telling him to finish it. For a moment, Varyn didn't feel anything. Not regret, not anger, not joy, not love... just the cold emptiness of another job that needed doing.

Find peace in the Force, brother, he said said quietly, and placed the emitter of his lightsaber against the man's back, right above his heart, and activated it.

There was once again that familiar sensation again of plasma cleaving through flesh and then there was silence. Because in the end, the only thing that peace required was the silencing of one's enemies.

Zayn’s final moments were consumed by excruciating, molten agony - each wave lapping over the next and threatening to overwhelm him. The dismemberment was pain unlike anything he’d experienced or hoped to experience in his lifetime, and it was succeeded by a horrifying sense of dread. It took a few moments through the shock for it to dawn upon the Corellian that he felt nothing at all below the point of severance. Nothing but the phantom sensations where his lower legs and feet should have been. It made him sick to his stomach, and he didn’t dare to look down - lest the gruesome sight of his own injury would burn itself permanently into his mind.

At one point or another, Zayn managed to roll himself onto his back - lifting his face out of the mud. His screams lowered until they were only agonized groans and whimpers - hazel eyes flickering closed and open to stare up at the red, smog-filled skies of Mustafar. He was lucid, and a part of the Corellian wished he wasn’t. Unconsciousness and sleep was a comfort compared to the painful reality of that moment. And the fear of what came next.

Even if he didn’t see it happen, Zayn felt the death of Fynn Tarrell vibrantly through the Force. The man had been a bastion of the Light - a presence that was palpable to behold - and now was gone. A fire that had been snuffed out with all its warmth, consumed by a darkness that left nothing but a cold, empty void in its place. Zayn said nothing - did nothing in response - but stared vacantly up at the red sky above. The hilt of his gold-bladed saber rolled from his fingers, landing onto the courtyard ground. He caught a glimpse of Altair's approach and heard the modulated words that echoed from his helmet, and the Corellian couldn’t help but close his eyes - the fear beginning to set deep into his stomach.

He couldn’t help the way his mind traveled back to his own family on Corellia - parents and multiple siblings that he’d never see again no matter how much his mind screamed for just a minute more. A second. His thoughts turned to his peers at the Jedi Temple - a second family, and one that he had dedicated to life to and achieved little for. His thoughts went to his troops with the Resistance - those that had followed him.. And Zayn didn’t want to wonder what their fates would be.

When his eyes opened again, Zayn’s gaze fixed onto the front of Varyn’s mask. In that moment, there was no anger. No unwavering resolve. No final moments spent to make peace with his end like some Jedi could. Staring back at Varyn was the face of a young man who knew that his death was close, and it utterly terrified him. It broke down every wall or feigned attempt to be strong, until his emotions were bared for all to see. He wasn’t much older than Varyn. In another life, perhaps, they could have been brothers-in-arms. They could have fought, laughed and bled together as Jedi, and perhaps there was a time when such a thing wasn’t unlikely. But that chapter was closed. Varyn had made his choice in the end - not that Zayn was aware of it to begin with - and what came next was no surprise.

Zayn stared up at the sky as Varyn’s blade ignited - feeling as the blade of crimson plasma pierce through his flesh, through his heart and terminated through his back. It was a split second of agony that caused the breath to flee from his lungs, hot tears streaking down the creases of his eyes. The moments seemed to drag on for an eternity, and the fear of it all didn’t abate. There was no running from it and no one left to help him - not as his vision grew dark and the shadows closed in around him. It was over, and the inevitable embrace of death came in to claim Zayn Talis.

And in that final moment, the words of Varyn echoed in his mind for the very last time. The Sith had wished him peace in the end - freedom from the pain and suffering he experienced in that moment, and perhaps that was what awaited him. To be one with the Force, and find serenity beyond the veil.

Even if the fear never left his face.. Zayn wanted to believe it was true.
