For a noob. What is the easiest to start with?

Before you start creating tech, I highly recommend you go over all the templates and guidelines listed in the tech boards. Then, I would advise looking over various tech that has already been accepted. Keep in mind that this is 1000 years before the Phantom Menace, so technology isn't going to be quite as advanced.
