Depends on the lightsaber design. Double bladed lights aber juyo single Makashi

Juyo will overpower the Makashi eventually, especially if they are dual wielding. Makashi relies on pinpoint maneuvers for offense, Juyo is too erratic to defend against indefinitely.

I'd argue that Makashi has the finest footwork of all the forms, and that they're capable of keeping a single dedicated threat similar to actual fencing, where an overly aggressive Juyo user always runs the risk of overextending.

It's definitely an argument that can be made. But a fencer is trained to go against another, single sword wielding fencer. The second blade is where I think the Juyo user has the distinct advantage of unpredictability. And when Makashi relies on predicting maneuvers to capitalize on them, it can really throw them thru a loop.

I also wouldn't say that it necessarily depends on lightsaber design, not all makashi users need to use a single lightsaber and not all Juyo need to use a double sided.

Right, but Makashi, while similar to fencing, is still a lightsaber form created specifically to fight other saber users in single combat. If the Juyo practitioner can close in, lock him down, I'd agree with Juyo winning. I actually walked into this predicting Makashi wins in pure form on form, no other factors at play.

Well yeah, Makashi does have weakness to pure strength, but Juyo was never a finished form persay which is why Mace developed Vaapad to overcome juyo issues at the time. Man typing on the phone sucks.

Juyo was a finished form, the Jedi Order just didn't teach it much so they lost records. As for pure form on form - it's not like the forms are inherently locked down exactly as they were when first devised. They'd still change/get added to over time as other considerations came up. So, Juyo vs. Makashi, equal skill, who wins...form doesn't matter.

Yeah I'm always on mobile. Anyway, I see it playing out where Juyo unloads, and the Makashi user either
A) defends until Juyo's overwhelming lack of defense gives them one precise strike, or
B) just dies lol

Really, it's just whoever makes a dumb mistake first. If the Makashi user focuses on just trying to flat parry everything coming at them rather than utilizing their footwork and everything else at their disposal, they'll have problems. If the Juyo person doesn't end up playing to their strengths, they'll have problems

You might as well ask which is better, italian vs. german longsword traditions. Neither is inherently better than the other. Both have their own strengths. If you throw Fiore dei Liberi (Italian fencing master) against Johannes Liechtenauer (German), it'll just depend on which of them makes a dumb mistake first.
