It's not necessarily a cavity. Mine hurt because of seemingly unavoidable gum disease. (runs in the family.) I already took pretty good care of my teeth, but I started flossing a lot more and used mouthwash and now my teeth aren't so sensitive to sugary or hot and cold things. I'd still recommend getting it checked out if it's something that's been going on for awhile, waiting only makes it more expensive and worse.
