Something I told my students when I worked at a local school when they had history class about WW1 and we limited them to 1/2 of an A4 paper. "It's not the quantity that counts, you can write 6 pages of shit and get D as a grade on it. It's the Quality that matters." That goes for pretty much everything Quality > Quantity. Except for if you're trying to invade Russia, then it's most Def Quantity > Quality.

Point is, if you take 5 paragraphs to open a door, then it's not really a good post imo. I personally try and fit in 3 to 4 paragraphs per post as it means I can get what I want out of it.

Paragraph 1: Reaction to the previous post
Paragraph 2: contemplation on the previous post and what I'm going to do next
Paragraph 3: Response to previous post and an attempt to move the thread on further
Paragraph 4: Reaction to someone entering the thread

Usually I agree with you, but there are so many great writers on this site who can write more and still write good stuff, that I want to be able to match that standard. So I've been slowly trying to work towards three paragraphs at least.

What also helps is try and describe the environment a bit in each post as well, have your character take a step to the side to avoid someone brushing against him or her. Take a sip from a cup of tea or coffee, light a cigarette or look over towards the background briefly. It's mostly fluff, but it adds life to the reply.

Look at Fallout 3/NV when you're in a dialogue with someone, everything around you freezes as you talk to them and that's the biggest issue I have with Fallout 3/NV.

Then look at Fallout 4 where when you talk to someone, unless you open a barter screen, the world still continues around you, people pass by, someone might pull a gun and shoot at you so you have to interrupt the conversation or die while you're still standing there.

Sorry about the spam, had one huge post and had to cut it up into segments, also lost a huge part where I wrote about my paragraph setups more detailed.

But, at the end of the day; don't worry.

But isn't that the fun part! watching the slow decline of a post as two aliens come in and abduct the original point to then remove it and replace it with something completely different?

Personally I think your a good writer, your posts are a decent size and I've yet to be disappointed in one of your replys.

Swedish Fish already hit on the two major things that improve writing quality, specifically in this RP setting. Building on the environment or the atmosphere of a thread is paramount to giving not only your post, but the thread as a whole, a bit of meat on it's bones.

The other thing Swedish Fish mentioned that I think can be a sort of epidemic at times, is furthering along a thread with your post. I hate being in a thread where everyone else is just reacting to what I'm writing and then waiting for me to further it along again. But I think that this has more to do with confidence in one's own writing than a lack of skill.
