As @Faster Than Light pointed out, SWTOR isn't canon and we follow canon as much as possible here. We also craft our own story via IC actions, and this Great Galactic War was caused by what happened in the last timeline.

So we're filling in the gaps for Disney Canon then?

In a way, sure, we're making our own canon. SWRP has always been about players forging the main story and shaping the galaxy. Giving Admin, mods and members all equal opportunity to shape it. All you have to do is follow the system and be active in striving towards your goals.

Not all, but most of the main story.

Alright so, just to clarify according to the rules. I have to go with the main storyline right? I can't say for example, play a Jedi Knight from the Old Republic era? Also to clarify for the RP, to what extent are the EU force powers limited? Because Darth Bane is canon and Darth Revan was a big factor in Bane's story so by technicality, doesn't that make KOTOR canon and by extent, the force powers used in the game?

If you want to role play in any era other than the main storyline, there is the diverse role play. As for your other question, Canon Darth Bane doesn’t retain his story from legends. For now it’s in the air until Disney decides to give him the same backstory.
