Good Evening online star wars people.

I've been considering doing this for a while; however, as I sit in a hotel in England, wondering what to do this evening, I thought now would be an excellent time to get this post up. I've been a member of this community for just over ten years and had initially planned to do this on Feb 13, which would have been the exact tenth anniversary of my membership here. However, when the 13th came, I posted a space station tech writeup instead.

Wierd.

Anyway, I wanted to spend a bit of time thanking this community for everything that it has done for me over the past decade.

For context, I joined this community in my first year of university. To put it mildly, I was lonely, and I didn't really fit in during my first few months at university, so I turned to something that had never let me down, Star Wars. So I googled 'Star Wars Roleplay Forum', and I ended up here. I had no idea how the forum worked, so I wrote a character up on my laptop called 'Nor'baal', and I made an account for that character, also called 'Nor'baal. About a day or two after I joined, I got a message from a long-gone user called Cassanova, and he brought me into a crime faction.

So he is to blame for the next ten years.

Over my time here, I have graduated from University, started and lost numerous jobs, moved house more times than I care to recall, and made and lost friends in the 'real world', as well as seeing dad in and out of the hospital and then more recently care. Throughout it all, this community has been here, a constant in a pretty odd life - and to everyone here, I wanted to say a massive thank you.

There's a lot of people here who have done amazing things, who have, even if they do not realise it, made a massive impact on my life, whether it be through providing advice or even just being an outlet for my slightly off creative style.

When I first started on SWRP, I made a Hutt (shocker). That Hutt went on to do assorted odd things and be admin slapped by the great @Brandon Rhea (who, in case anyone asks, played all the Porgs in the Star Wars movies, trust me, bro). I went on to make some weird characters, and then make the Czerka Corporation, which included the 'Holonet News Network', a regular news item which I think I may have done each week, I forget. I tried to kill a character, and they nearly mirked my Hutt with flying tooth floss, I poisoned a Senator with tea.

I did a lot of odd shit.

However, and I haven't said this to anyone before, I thought I would let people know - I quite easily attribute where I am to SWRP. I write, for a living, and writing thousands of words a week on SWRP has trained me in a style of writing which apparently people like reading. SWRP has helped me, not just through difficult times in my life, but in shaping what I can do as a person and as a professional - and for that, I will always be grateful to you all.

I wanted to say thank you to some folks as well, and if I have missed you off of this list, please do not take it personally - there's a lot of people I can and would thank:

@Versok - A lot of folks here may not know this, but Versok and I spent the best part of two years entering literally every thread as a pair. He played a Trandoshan merc, and I played a human scoundrel, we did entire threads chasing one another from one thread to the next, and it was amazing. Versok, you're one of the nicest people on this entire forum, and without you, I don't think I would have moved beyond "Nor'baal, Slug Enjoyer".

@Breeso - Please come back. Breeso and I RPed for years and he even made it onto my 'people I speak to outside fo SWRP' list.

@Ben - Not sure if this is your username anymore, but Ben and I used to Skype, me from my Uni Dorm and Ben on his commute. Ben is hands down one of the best staff we ever had and was an amazing RPer to boot.

@Sreeya - Thank you for putting up with me for so long. Sreeya has consistently come out with unique characters and found ways to drive the story on. However, on a personal level, Sreeya used to give me career advice, which is just, genuinely, an astonishingly kind thing to do for someone, especially when they came out of Uni and had literally no idea what they were doing.

@Brandon Rhea - Brenden has the loft position of being I think, the only person here to have made it onto my list of friends on the book of faces. Brandon has put up with me for a stupid amount of time, but above and beyond that, he has spent time listening to my gripes and giving me pointers where they really make a difference. Perhaps above all, Brandon opened my eyes to issues affecting things I had never even considered, mostly nothing to do with Star Wars. And for that, I will always be grateful.

Right, name dropping over.

I have been here for over ten years.

This community has been a part of my life for 35% of it. It is, without a doubt, the kindest, most inclusive and most creative community I have ever been part of. Each and every one of you make my days a little better, be it through the great threads we do or the fantastic conversations we have on Skype.

Thank you.

..Damn why'd you have to go and make me all emotional. It has been an absolute pleasure having you as part of the community. So many fond memories and lots of bizarre scenarios (death by floss) that we all shared. I hope to see you around for many more years and continue to be a part of our dysfunctional family. And I'm always here to give any advice you'd like outside of SWRP stuff. Know you're incredibly valued as a member and friend <3

Late to the party but this was a great walk down memory lane. For the record, you were a pain in the ass. But you were our pain in the ass. It's always been a pleasure, and I've always appreciated your enthusiasm for my performance as all the porgs in The Last Jedi. That's my true Star Wars legacy.

I'm looking forward to when you're Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and we have a tenuous Special Relationship when I'm President of the United States.
