DESCRIPTION​

The 5-T medium freighter is a transport produced by Nova-Drive, a small-scale spacecraft manufacturer serving markets along the Rimma Trade Route. Although most of Nova-Drive's range is made up of licensed versions of products from other manufacturers, the 5-T is different; developed internally by Nova-Drive's small but talented design staff, it is one of the few items in the company's catalog which originates solely within Nova-Drive's factories. It is, in fact, one of the company's better selling products, and its success has led to something of a renaissance for Nova-Drive's in-house R&D department.

Designed as a well-protected cargo hauler for use on more remote routes, the 5-T is a sturdy machine, 50 meters long and able to carry a respectable 500 tons of cargo. The 5-T can be flown by a single pilot, but normally has a crew of 4, including a co-pilot, flight engineer and loadmaster. All crew-members can double as gunners in the event of an emergency; the ship is well defended, with two fixed medium laser cannons in the bow, controlled by the pilot, a dual light laser casemate facing forward next to the cockpit, controlled by the co-pilot, and a pair of medium laser turrets covering the aft port and starboard areas, controlled by the loadmaster and flight engineer. In addition, the 5-T can carry 4 passengers, and has consumables for up to 4 months in space.

Due to its sturdy design, high cargo capacity and respectable armament, the 5-T is well regarded by the spacer community, and highly sought after, commanding a premium in certain markets. In regions beyond the Rimma Trade Route, where Nova-Drive has no official dealership network, it is not uncommon to see 5-Ts in used starship lots commanding highly inflated prices.
