A couple of questions

Just a couple of questions so I'm not completely groping in the dark here. :)

1. Are there any more specific details on the Republic's collapse? Is it just a bunch of military losses and a collapse of the bureaucracy? I have character plans that involve being a former army official or SIS agent of the Republic, and I'm just asking to see what would be a logical way for them to move on from there.

2. What's the state of the criminal underworld right now? I'm aware that the Corporate Alliance was unfortunately disbanded shortly after I left, so how are all the criminals coping right now? Are they all just independents striving to climb on top of everyone else, or are there any coherent, structured organizations in existence?

3. Who are some major indie players at the moment?

Also, seeing as the Republic is no longer a faction, if I created a character with a Republic background, that wouldn't require faction-based approval, would it?
