No New Entrants

In contrast to its famous demilitarisation in the past, representatives of the factions invited to the summit would find that the planet from space was bustling with trade and bristling with weapons. Orbital defence stations were dotted around in such a way as to provide overlapping fields of fire and from their berths hundreds of starfighters ran through patrol patterns to protect the traders entering the system.

Looming large, out of the way of dedicated freight lanes, several capital ships of the Ruusan Defence Fleet could easily be seen. The mixture of corvettes, frigates, carriers and cruisers was not insubstantial and quite fitting for such a pivotal planet in such uncertain political times.

As the ships of the Representatives would arrive, a squadron of starfighters would peel off from the Defence Fleet to act as an escort for a shuttle to ferry them down to the surface. If any faction chose to arrive with more than the one designated military vessel, they would be given a single warning to have the other ships depart immediately.

However, should such unpleasantness be found to be not required, the shuttles would be ferried to the planet in such a manner as to land at approximately the same time regardless of distance.

The landing pad was a large, circular, platform that was serviced by a high-speed tramline that would spirit the Representatives on toward the main government building of Ruusan: The Dome.

Ruusan.jpg

The Representatives would be guided to the highspeed tram by protocol droids, upon which time the tram would spirit them away into the central, circular building of Ruusan’s capital city. At such smooth speeds, the transition time would feel like no time at all and before long the tram would open and the Representatives were guided up into the main room.

Large, spacious and bright, the main room to be used for the Peace Summit was separated into two areas; the seats and a raised area positioned to allow speakers to be seen and heard by all without the need for technology to be used.

Seats were already filled as the Representatives were hurried to join a single man upon the raised portion of the room. Richly dressed in dark clothes with a dark cloak, Governor Lars Omah stood waiting for the Representatives of some of the most important factions within the current Galaxy.

883a40ad56fb5461993375e8a7b379d6.jpg

He opened his arms in greeting.

“Friends - be welcomed, one and all, to this Joining of the Minds.” he spoke with a rich, deep, voice that at once seemed authoritative but also tired, “I am glad that you are willing to attend, that you might be willing to see, as I do, a need for peace to prevail for all kind.”

Amongst the people seated, there appeared to be three main groups all clustered around an individual who stood out as being a leader of that section of the audience as it were. A reserved Chalactan man with a shaved head who seemed to be rather young (early 20s) for such a position of authority - and the exact opposite of a rotund human in his late sixties who seemed to be in the middle of stuffing his face and engaging in rowdy jokes at the expense of the Representative of Nixor across the room.

Said Representative was a red-toned Twi’lek who seemed depressingly rather accustomed to being objectified and rather done with it all - if her rather bored expression was an indication. Lars spoke to the Representatives of the main factions.

“As you are some of the most influential people within the Galaxy at this given moment, these people are largely here to hear you speak. To hear you discuss what we can do to end the fighting. Please, speak amongst yourselves for now but I shall prepare the room for you to introduce yourselves before we move onto the stated goals of your governments in attending this summit.”

He smiled.

“And please, no filibuster, this is not the Galactic Senate chambers.”

Moving to the front of the raised area of the room, the conversations began to die down as Governor Lars Omah stood at attention at the edge.

“Sentients. Thank you for attending - I am Governor Lars Omah of Ruusan and I want to see Peace in my time amongst all peoples. That we may stride forth into the future as one, joint, peoples that can prosper and grow together.” he introduced himself and the stated purpose of the summit, “Please, allow the key speakers to introduce themselves…”

He would step to one side and bow to the Representatives to allow them to introduce themselves.

Just a few short days has passed since Galek received the invitation to Ruusan. More than he would ever care to admit, the Induparan royal couldn’t deny just how anxious he was for this conclave - the reality of what was at stake genuinely weighing down on him, heavier as the day in question finally dawned.

For the first time in living memory, a Galaxy long-divided had agreed to come together under a single roof - presenting an opportunity that simply hadn’t been possible until then. It was a pivotal moment in Galactic history - an opportunity to dialogue with representatives from every corner of the Galaxy, to make substantive change that would affect the lives of trillions. As a prince of Indupar and leader within the ISC, it was an opportunity to advance those interests rival none prior to that point.

Arriving at roughly the same time as other representatives, Galek’s opulent yacht dropped out of Hyperspace - appearing within the Ruusan system and quickly surrounded by a starfighter escort. Unlike many of his companions, the Induparan royal had deliberately chosen not to arrive with a military escort. The Consortium had taken a neutral stance within the Galaxy, boasting decent relations with every major player on the Galactic stage. More than anyone else, Galek and the rest of the ISC had little reason to arrive with their guns drawn.

Moreover, the military supremacy of the Consortium was well-known by all in attendance. And even without military escort, the Induparan highly doubted that anyone would attempt to provoke that proverbial bear.

Within minutes, Galek’s vessel was guided down to the landing platform - the durasteel ramp extending in short order to meet the ground. Within moments, Galek strolled his way down - taking in the cool air before promptly scoping out the fellow arrivals. To no one's surprise, the Induparan had properly dressed to the nines for the event - adorned in an embroidered, cream-colored Sherwani with jeweled buttons down the front, coupled with a crimson dupatta that draped across his left shoulder and wrapped around his lower back. His outfit was accessorized with multiple articles of jewelry, while his black hair was perfectly combed and styled into place.

The eyes of the entire Galaxy were soon to be upon him, and Galek had just about every intention of looking the part.

With a nod of acknowledgement towards the other arrivals, Galek promptly made his way towards the high-speed tram system - making the short journey into the Dome before exiting into the spacious chamber designated for the Peace Summit. Galek couldn’t help but admire the sheer volume of men and women in attendance - easily the largest and most diverse collection of planets represented outside of the Galactic Senate. In no time at all, the Induparan began to make his way through the chamber - shaking hands and introducing himself to those in attendance - notably taking his time to speak with many of those hailing from the Outer Rim and other largely inconsequential worlds, rather than many of the high-rollers from the Mid and Inner Rim.

At the inclination of Governor Omah, Galek stepped forth onto the raised platform - his hazel gaze cast out over those who had assembled. “Sentient Representatives,” He began, his sing-song voice - only frequently heard upon the HoloNet and during Galactic Senate sessions - echoing through the chamber, “I am Galek Ordalos - Governor of the sovereign system of Indupar, and Secretary of Intergalatic Affairs for the Independent Systems Consortium. It is my distinct honor to stand before you now, and I look forward to the opportunity that this conclave represents. An opportunity to usher in a new age of peace and prosperty, in a Galaxy that has been divided for too long.”

"An invitation?"

Xyla regarded the invitation with an inquisitive quirk of an eyebrow, studying the expensive paper as she flipped it over to check the backside for any extra details. None.

"Curious."

The conclave was to take place on Ruusan and was supposedly held outside the authority of the Galactic Senate. Should it have not been, the off-white invitation would have joined a myriad of crumpled papers and discarded items in the bin beside her desk. Trenwyth had no interest in joining the galaxy's senate proceedings, but this was different. If peace could be reached - grasped and achieved - it would be nothing but beneficial for her people, and they weren't even remotely involved in the war that plagued the Core and beyond. Trade was hindered when sovereign planets had to worry about being dragged into war or the cutthroat politics that surrounded them. No one wanted to become the next Firrerre or Kashyyyk.

Thus, Xyla sent in her rendezvous and arrived when the time came. After all, not only was it an opportunity for the galaxy, it was a chance for her. To make her debut at a galactic summit such as this one... a better opportunity could not have presented itself.

Trenwyth had no major military, so she arrived without a military vessel, but she did not come unprotected. A member of the Teresian Guard - her long-time companion, Thea - came with her and remained loyally tethered to her side as she descended the ramp of the Trenwythian yacht. The ambassador wore a maxi-length, tight-fitting black dress with sheer, billowing sleeves and silver lace detailing. Thea followed closely behind her, dressed in a tailored suit with her gaze hidden behind dark glasses.

When the governor from Indupar deactivated his mic and stepped down, Thea would step forward to introduce the shorter woman beside her. "Presenting Her Excellency, ambassador of Trenwyth and representative of the Teresi Crown, Princess Xyla Irene Olympia Dionne Teresi." She then took a step back, gestured grandly to Xyla, and made room for the ambassador to step forward.

"Citizens of the Galaxy, as a citizen hailing from an independent, sovereign system, it is my desire that the war that plagues the Core and beyond meets its grave today so that my people may join the galactic stage without the fear of being drug into destructive warfare and its tumulous politics.

"Perhaps here, today, without the overbearing shadow of senate proceedings over our shoulders and the temper of neutrality, we might make progress toward compromise, and in it, find peace and prosperity."

Thea deactivated the mic, and Xyla let out a subtle, shaky sigh. Her first words had been spoken to the masses. She could only hope that it was not too much - or worse, not too little. But that was only half the challenge; now was her chance to make connections. The galaxy's most influential would arrive here today, and it was her job to make the most of it.

Trini Halrixien - now Professor Trini Halrixien, after her exploits on Iego - stood in the guest viewing gallery of the assembly hall, one of the many outside observers who had been invited to witness the historic peace talks that some were already calling the Second Ruusan Reformation. It was an event which - whatever its outcome - promised to have lasting impacts on Galactic politics.

In truth, Trini was not sure how or why she had been picked to be the University of Rudrig's witness to the proceedings; there had been something about the preferred individual falling ill, and names being drawn out of a hat. In truth, Trini had been too busy preparing the syllabus for her first class to pay attention; one morning, though, she had been visited by the Dean in her office, handed a set of transport tickets, given a hearty handshake and sent on her way without even being able to protest.

"I must say, miss, this is not strictly what I was designed for!"

As a mere academic witness, Trini had been given fairly lousy seats in the viewing gallery, more or less at the very back. This would likely not have been an issue for the towering Trandoshan professor who had originally been slated to go, it was a problem for the tiny Amaran, who was too short to see anything over the crowd. As such, she had made full use of the complimentary H7D-series protocol droid which she had been offered at check-in.

"Oh pipe down, I know your specs, your servos and gyros can handle lil' ol' me. Anyway, hold still! Things are kicking off."

Someone in the crowd turned around and shushed the Amaran. Trini glared down at them, then returned her attention to the speaker. She whispered when she spoke again.

"Who was this again?"

Trini sat perched atop the shoulders of a silver protocol droid. With her vantage point, she could see the proceedings clearly, even from the very back of the viewing gallery.

"Princess Xyla Irene Olympia Dionne Teresi." The droid whispered back irritably, shifting on his feat to better support his burden. "The ambassador from Trenwyth."

Trini leaned forward with interest, again causing her "mount" to stumble. Princess Xyla was not one to speak to the Galactic Senate, although this peace conference was outside that body's authority. The Amaran wondered who else would step up to speak...

Lon was curious but doubtful about these proceedings. He'd seen plenty of peace summits start out with good intentions and end with little but a continuation of the war. He couldn't say he was holding his breath on this one, but he accepted the offered invitation nonetheless.

As he arrived, it was quite clear that no expense had been spared in the preparations for this event. He saw ships from all across the galaxy with all makes and designs, speaking to the extent of response to the invitations that had been sent out. Was this all an attempt to bring Ruusan to the center of galactic politics? Or had it been suffering from the war more than anyone had realized. Lon didn't believe in things being done out of altruism, and he would bide his time with close interest until their hosts revealed their hand.

He made the rounds, greeting and briefly speaking to various other representatives that he knew from his decades in both the New Republic and ISC. As the proceedings began, he took his place near the introductory podium and stepped forward as the others finished.

I am Governor Lonathan Tendree of Cato Neimoidia. I have represented my people in both the New Republic and the Independent Systems Consortium for many years. I look forward to bringing my people's voice into these proceedings and hope we may find some solution to this plague of war ailing our galaxy, he said.

Calls for peace were often ignored in times of war. With tensions running high on all sides, there was little advocates for a diplomatic solution were able to do. Ryloth had no part in the conflict, but even a chance for the fighting to end was something Ryssa had to be a part of. If it was a success, trade would likely increase by a significant amount, and that would greatly benefit her people. That was why the minute she’d finished reading the invitation to attend the summit on Ruusan, she’d made immediate preparations to head there.

Although the representatives were allowed one military vessel, the governor saw no reason to arrive armed. It was well established in the galaxy that the ISC was neutral, and there was no need for that to change here. As expected, the starfighter escorts soon took their positions around the ship and led them safely down to the landing pad. Before long, Ryssa had taken the tram to The Dome. Donning an embroidered violet and gold gown with her usual headdress, she stepped into the main room filled with representatives from all over the galaxy. Seeing how many there were, perhaps there was hope for peace after all. The place looked painstakingly set up, just like the summit itself, and she had to appreciate the amount of effort that the governor of Ruusan put into a meeting like this.

Once the previous three representatives had introduced themselves and the stage opened up, Ryssa made her way over to the platform where they had previously been standing, taking a breath before speaking. While she had gotten used to addressing the masses during her campaign for governor, this was her first time speaking to the entirety of the galaxy. It was certainly different.

“Honorable representatives,” she said, her gaze sweeping across the room, “I am Ryssa Kalayli, Governor of Ryloth. I am humbled to be able to speak before you today, and it is my hope that we are able to take our first steps toward the galaxy-wide peace and prosperity that we aim to achieve.”

Alex was tired. She could feel the weight of her years sitting heavily on her shoulders. Sleep was an elusive dream of the past. Her body having not healed quiet right after Ansion. How long had she felt this way? Marching from one crisis to the next? Hoping for a change in direction. This was her doing. She had fought to craft the Resistance, to bound from the violence of a Rebel Alliance into a coalition of worlds. Alex had been successful. The Jedi waged war better than ever. Their influence ever expanding…but at what cost? The war grew bloodier. The battle longer and the consequences greater. They were locked in a war of attrition slowly dragging them into the dark.

This was your doing.

Maybe there was a way out. One last way out. A call had gone out to the diplomatic representatives of the galaxy. Alex answered the call. She saw this as her last chance. Find peace or watch the galaxy crumble into disarray. The Empire and Jedi would do as they had always done. Destroy each other and all who stood by their side. They had to break the cycle.

She rode silently in the shuttle. The Aurora hovering in space above. She was dressed as she was always dressed. Plain Jedi robes, worn but good quality, her saber handing from her hip. Alex had left the armor at home. Her face was impossible smooth and her hair well styled. She was the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order…she had a job to do. She knew what her reputation had become. They would not see the fierce woman too many had come to expect. Not today.

Eventually, the proceedings began. She stood as her voice was carried out across the meeting. Her mind carefully closed. Her signature vanished. She would not make the same mistake twice. “Representatives.” The word hung. “I am Alexandria Voran…Grandmaster of the Jedi Order. I am here because we want peace.” The Force rang with finality in her mind. Find your old self. The woman who had welcomed the Sith into the Galactic Senate to stop bloodshed. Just for an hour…a day…remember who you used to be for if you fail…you will drown in blood. She knew that to be true. Her future.

Celeste had received the invitation a few days ago and she had immediately decided to attend this extraordinarily important event. This was exactly what she had wanted. Govenor Omah had reached out for basically everyone striving towards this higher goal of peace. The idea of this get-together corresponded exactly to her own visions and aspirations and so she was even positively excited as she made her way over to the assigned booth.

She was dressed in one of her elegant, black, this time rather simple Rattataki senator gowns, but she specifically not chosen leather today as she couldn't stick to tight fits anymore. Her stylist had done her best into cleverly choosing hidden layers so that the slight contours of her sweet little secret wouldn't be outlined. It was of particular importance that no questions would be asked in such a setting, especially because she hadn't yet made up her mind about what story she would tell. However, this was no pressing matter yet in those early stages, but if this meeting would continue with another session, she would have to be more prepared.

She might not have been fully prepared to share details on her special circumstances, but it was a good thing that she didn't have to anyway. The blonde senator was, however, more than prepared for this event to begin and so when it was time for her to introduce herself, she stepped forward confidently, a charming and genuine smile on her lips.

Diplomacy was her natural habitat and she was curious to see what all the other influential attendees had to share."Honorable representatives" she quickly let her gaze wander over some of the familiar faces, but also over all the new faces which she couldn't wait to meet, "I am Celeste Stythani, Senator of Rattatak and representative of the Free World Alliance. I am most thankful for such an extraordinary opportunity to come together in peace and to share our thoughts. The galaxy is in desperate need of diplomatic solutions and I assume it is our common interest that peace should be established once and for all, so that each and every system will blossom in a new era of prosperity". With that, she stepped back, the charming smile was still on her lips while she waited for the rest to introduce themselves.

Peace is a lie, there is only Passion

Such is the way of the Sith. Despite all that had happened, the Sith is the most dominate force the galaxy, an ever growing empire and will keep growing into the future and all opposition is crushed. The Sith will rule, as was intended.

The Sith Governor of New Alderaan was wearing a black suit, a simple one. Nothing fancy. Even during this meeting, the Governor's golden eyes glowed as usual and his gaze would unnerve the common rabble.

There were familiar faces in attendance. Respectable statesmen such as Governors Ordalos and Tendree. Then there were people worthy of contempt such as the Jedi Grandmaster. Glancing around, he didn't see any other Sith officials. He also wondered if the Republic Chancellor will be here for such a high level meeting. Anyways, it was time for the Sith Governor to intrude himself. "Arcturus Alkaios, Governor of New Alderaan" he simply stated, everyone knows about the successful Sith invasion of New Alderaan, now under the Governor's iron grip on behalf of the Sith. "I too, look forward to seeing a conclusion of this war" Arcturus would have a slight smirk on his face. Oh this war will end. It won't end the way the diplomats and the Jedi Grandmaster are wanting, but it will end alright.

Looks like there are others to be introduced. Lets see where this goes....

This was a monumental day. If not for the galaxy at large, then at least for Amira. She, along with several others, had been selected to travel to Ruusan and represent the Sith Empire. It was a great step forward in her career, and perhaps an indication that all had been forgiven, that her superiors trusted her with weightier matters at last. Growing up on Bandomeer, she never could have imagined that she would be partaking in political matters at such a large scale. Her master would never have approved, and she could hear his voice, somewhere in the back of her mind, rebuking her and telling her how pointless it all was.

She had opted to wear a black pant suit rather than a dress, simply for comfort, now one of the more expensive items in her closet since its purchase yesterday. If there was one thing you could count on with politicians, it was that they dressed to impressed. Often times due to the fact that outside of perfectly groomed hair, bejeweled outfits, and flashy sports vehicles, they had very little in the way of personality to offer the public. But these were the games they played, and she would need to play them, too, to a degree.

Amongst the politicians, far more practiced and polished than she, she felt uncomfortable. Nervous, even. Many of them would resent her presence, but she knew that she had every right to be here. The FWA called it an injustice that the Empire be given a voice with the masses, never taking into consideration the billions of sentient beings that resided within Sith Space. That was what she would try to focus on, ignoring the doubt that rose within her.

The Tiefling held her head high, amber eyes studying the group that begun to form behind the raised podium. Some of them she recognized, familiar faces that regularly appeared on holonews or live broadcasts of the Galactic Senate. Only one face stood out to her, however: Sith Champion Stythani, an elegant and flattering black gown draped over her shoulders. Now the Senator of Rattatak. Amira recognized her after a moment or two of study, recalling the honey blonde woman from a party on Serenno. At one time, they had each moved in the same circles, both interested in the politics of the Empire, but they had never officially worked together.

To the rest of the galaxy she was the planet's newly elected senator, the fresh face that the FWA was desperately in need of, that would help lead it forward, past its past tragedies and PR nightmares. Amira couldn't disagree with that, as Stythani was probably the greatest thing to happen to the FWA since the Senator of Ord Mantell had washed up dead on a construction site. Certainly, she was far more charming than that big Wookiee she saw on shampoo bottles or the Senator of Onderon who never could pull his head out of his own recharging port. It was no wonder he was so pink. But to Amira, and to the Sith Order, she was not just a senator. She had once been a Sith, had once walked the halls of the academy on Dromund Kaas or Korriband or wherever she had trained in her youth.

When it was time for the Champion to take her place at the podium to introduce herself, golden eyes passed over the three groups clustered around, lingering on the Chalactan and the Twi'lek the longest. "I am Champion Amira Din, representative for the Sith Empire. I would like to thank Governor Omah and the citizens of Ruusan for this gracious invitation."

Briefly, her attention moved toward Senator Stythani, a smile on her face. "And might I add how pleased I am to see that the Free Worlds Alliance has opened their doors at last to the Sith, welcoming former Champion Celeste Stythani into their number. I was shocked by the alliance's outspoken and vehement disregard for the Empire's right to free speech within the senate, but now I applaud and thank the alliance for their open-mindedness and willingness to move forward, toward a brighter future. After all, that is why we're all here—to work toward a better tomorrow." With that, Amira stepped away from the podium. That would stir the alliance's pot.

Dusty Daytonus, truthfully, was lucky to be here today. He wasn't being humble or grateful that out of all the individuals in the galaxy chosen for this monumental meeting that he'd been one of them. No, he was lucky to be here because he'd almost gambled away his invitation last night at a high stakes sabaac game. He'd been down hard and had put up the invitation as collateral. He'd actually lost it to the Anx he'd been playing against before he pawned off his watch and was able to make a comeback and earn all his winnings back and then some.

But gambling had been hard work that had required a serious amount of drugs, alcohol, and caffeine to keep him going. Blast it - why did he think stopping by Canto Bight before heading here was a good idea? Granted, he was sitting pretty with a brand new bloggin-leather jacket and plenty of casino chips for the next time so how bad of a venture could it really have been.

As for peace? Dusty had mixed feelings on it. On the one hand, as a FWA governor, he lived in near-constant fear that any day his planet was about to get glassed by the Sith. On the other hand, war did make for some excellent thrills and Dusty was nothing if not an adrenaline addict. But, then again, being on the forefront of a massive delegation of the greatest and most influential minds in the galaxy was also a certain thrill on its own.

"It's Dusty. Peace among worlds and all." Dusty said, flashing a lazy peace sign as he got himself situated.

Nor'baal had spent most of the journey here double, if not triple, checking that his invite was actually genuine. <This is almost certainly a trap Yurabba.> he grumbled to his compatriot, a younger Hutt with a blueish complexion that had recently taken up a position as a junior member of his Kajidic, who rumbled out a reply <It is most confusing my Lord, you are not a Senator, or a Governor as the invite said, yet it was clearly addressed to you?>

<PAH!> the larger Hutt boomed, his voice laden with glee <Clearly, they recognise that my lofty status cannot be summated with mere titles Yurabba! Something you have never had the inventiveness or ingenuity to decipher.> he chuckled at his wit, waved his droid over and enquired about the nature of their progress to the meeting site. The droid was not needed, as the Hutts yacht punched out of hyperspace and into what appeared to be some sort of shipyard sales convention. Nor'baal belched in shock, and quickly ordered his modest escort of headhunters to be deployed, four in total.

That'll show 'em we mean business! he chuckled to himself, secretly wishing he had taken one of the larger ships from the Desilijic Armarda, that was a mere hyperspace jump away. However, given that most of the galaxy's navies were also probably a hyperspace jump away, Nor'baal somewhat doubted it would have made much of a difference. <Yurabba, stay here - I'm off to see what all this nonsense is about.>

A few moments later...

Touching down at the designated landing spot, the Glorious Jewel, the personal yacht of the leader of the Hutt Clans, touched down at the designated landing spot, and Nor'baal disembarked under his own power. He had forgone the usual trappings his office afforded, having been advised that entering the venue with a small flotilla of guards would have been poorly received. Instead, he entered the venue alone and found himself soon accompanied by a translator droid afforded him by their host.

This is a trap. Nor'baal could not help but think, as he wriggled and wormed his way into the main meeting room, to clock the faces of some of the galaxy's most powerful people. This is certainly a trap. he thought to himself as he began to try and work out who was going to try and murder him first.

Fortunately, his paranoid musings were brought under control as he spotted his favourite pet politician, Dusty of Ploo II. <Peace.> he wriggled up to the Governor's side <...is good for business, no?> he added as he looked around the room, and realised he was meant to make a broader introduction. Pondering what he was supposed to say, Nor'baal decided it would be best to avoid mentioning the vast criminal empire he ran and instead opt for a more 'Government' focused line.

<The Galaxy has been through a period of great strife, a virus which threatened us all, invasions, planetary devastation and much more. Hutt Space,> Nor'baal puffed out his chest as he referred to an area controlled by numerous crime families as if it was dominated by only one <...has shared in this suffering. Let us use this opportunity to come together, as friends.> Nor'baal tried to hide his disgust at the idea and instead opted for a very clearly forced smile as he scanned the room again, as if trying to sniff out the potential assassin in their midst.

His eyes settled on Governor Ordalos of the Consortium. The Induparian had managed to stop admiring his own reflection long enough to make a statement about how sincere he was, yet Nor'baal could not shake the idea that he was the mastermind behind this particular attempt on his life. It made perfect sense, ever since Nor'baal had left Kessel, his yacht jammed to the gunnels with the spoils of his office, Governor Ordalos no doubt harboured a grudge. We shall see who triumphs in this battle of wits, Ordalos! Nor'baal nodded at the man, a mark of respect for a being he knew would seek to be his undoing.

Next he looked over at one of the less recognisable faces. He did not know Xyla Teresi, and that in and of itself made her the more obvious suspect of his ire. Perhaps the Night Wind has sent one of its own? he thought. She was indeed built like one of their numbers. Surely not, the Night Wind wouldn't dare target on of the Clans? Unless..... he shook his head. Unless the Besadii sent them! Of course! it made perfect sense - the Besadii sought to lure him to neutral space and be rid of their rival forever!

He continued to scan the room, his gaze falling on one Trini Halrixien - almost certainly a business rival he had once wronged. Sure, Nor'baal did not recognise her, but how was he supposed to know the fullest extent of everyone he had defrauded in his already considerably long life? Clearly, she was here to seek revenge, her diminutive frame practically bubbling with barely concealed rage.

Then there was Governor Lon Tendree, another Consortium member. Nemoidian. Nor'baal was nearly wretched at the sight of him. He rarely did business with that species, so he struggled to work out where he had seen him before. Then, it occurred to him - the negotiations which saw the Consortium gobble up half the core! Of course - he seeks to end my life so he can take full credit for my work in bringing more worlds to the Consortium! he lied to himself. In truth, Nor'baal had done very little, yet he could not shake the idea that the duplicitous Nemoidian would seek to kill him anyway.

Ryloth. He glowered at Governor Ryssa Kalayli. He was sure he had done something to upset her. Maybe he had enslaved her, or her family - it was hard to keep track after all these days. All her lot look basically the same anyway he chucked to himself, deciding that clearly she was a former slave hell-bent on revenge, for what had merely been a business deal they had come out worse off in. The cheek of some people! he lamented, turning his gaze elsewhere.

Alexandria Voran. Now there was an assassin if ever he had seen one. Brimming with self-righteous fury, the Jedi no doubt blamed Nor'baal for not doing more to stop his kinsman, Durr, from unleashing the AMS virus, which had, thus far, killed more people than the Hutt cared to recount. Come and try it, your two-bit witch; I'll slap you into the next century!

Next, he moved on to the Senator of Rattatak, Celeste Stythani. He nearly puked as she spoke of 'Common Interest' and 'Diplomatic Solutions', before he realised this was evidently a tell as to her true intentions for being here. She's an agitator! he raged. Clearly, she's one of those soft-headed politicians, that would see my hard-earned wealth taken in the name of her 'common good'! He scowled at the do-gooder. I'm watching you.

Moving on to the Governor of New Alderaan, Nor'baal couldn't help but feel that the Imperial Representative was a little more inclined to the Hutt's way of thinking. This entire set-up was a farce, destined to achieve nothing - of this the Hutt was sure. Perhaps that was why the Governor of New Alderaan wished to see Nor'baal killed - in awe as he no doubt was of Nor'baals epic negotiation skills, and seeking to remove the one being that could make these talks a success?

The same went for Amira Din, another person Nor'baal did not recognise. Maybe another covert Assassin? he pondered. Maybe the Besadii have sent two of their lackeys to try and murder me! he bit back a laugh. How typical of the Besadii to be so afraid of his considerable skills and talents that they had to send ]two assassins!

He chuckled to himself, as he continued to weigh up which one of his would-be murderers would try their luck first...

Victoria's shuttle gently touched down on Ruusan without much fanfare, as few knew she was coming and perhaps even fewer even knew where her home world of Gannaria was. As a relatively new Senator, her experience in the political scape was, how would you say, limited, but her office had insisted that she attend anyway as it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

She was dressed in a simple but fine Gannarian fabric that was adorned with fur and leather belt. Victoria wasn't about to draw attention to herself with a flashy dress, nor was she about to shave her legs unnecessarily. Her unease in this public setting was reduced by this comfortable wear, and that was a good enough reason as any in her opinion. Slowly but surely she made her way into the more public area and began to mingle with the other representatives, senators and the like.

Eventually the dreadful time arrived for her to speak, and so she cautiously approached the podium while quietly clearing her throat.

"I am Senator Victoria Winterblaze, a representative for the Free World Alliance. I would too like to thank Governor Omah and the citizens of Ruusan for this kind invitation. War is a disease that spreads through the galaxy, destroying innocent and aggressor alike. While we seek peace, peace cannot come from words alone and must instead be derived from action. Both in showing respect and restraint, but more importantly in taking responsibility for one's actions. I look forward to seeing what you do, thank you."

Victoria strained to keep her composure as she moved away from the podium and back into the waiting crowd. It was a bold speech, but one that she didn't expect would find much impact, as the assembly likely already knew where they stood. But she reasoned, if she could change one mind then it would be worth her coming.

The rumblings of conversation filled the hall like birdsong in the morning. It had been months since he had heard the latter, though the former seemed to fill every waking moment of his life, be it the Republic Senate, Galactic Senate or now this collection of representatives from across the Galaxy. Part of the man wanted to stay on Coruscant, away from the inevitable bickering and self serving nature of this meeting. But his common sense and lust for power had forced him from his concrete nest and to the edge of the Galaxy. Many here would need the guiding hand of the Supreme Chancellor if they were to get anything done. Without Emryc Thorne Alexander was the most successful and influential of the Politicians in attendance.

As each member of the assembled body stood to introduce themselves, he wondered if there was a point in him following suit. All here knew who he was, his face had ordained many a Holo-Station, his voice broadcast across the galaxy almost weekly. Alexander smiled and the snide remark from the Sith representative, that is where most of any confrontation in this chamber would reside. The Alliance and the Empire, the Grandmaster was too sensible to not drag herself into a slanging match with Imperial Representatives. But after the last Galactic Senate session he knew the Alliance was not beneath foul language and name calling. No wonder the Sith kept bombing their planets.

As a head of state, Alexander was set aside from the rest of the rabble. Allowing all to easily see the Supreme Chancellor stand, he wore clothing more fitting of his status of a Prince of Hynestia than a Supreme Chancellor, but he was bored of the same old dark suits day after day and wanted to make some statement for the paparazzi who swarmed Russan. Alexander waited for a moment of silence to distil upon the room before he spoke.

“Honourable Representatives of the Galaxy, you all know who I am. I look forward to speaking with you all today on the future of the Galaxy.” With that he sat down, Alexander knew Peace would not be achieved today, but perhaps a Future could be decided, one he was prepared to stand centre stage in.

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl had more or less ignored the increasingly long list of dignitaries and representatives that stood to introduce themselves; some more succinctly than others. There were the usual unpleasant figures from the Galactic Senate scene, including the insufferable Galek Ordalos (@Altaris), a former ISC Governor in Nor'baal Desilijic (@Nor'baal), and the unscrupulous Chancellor Xeres (@Braden); but some more welcome faces, as well; freshman Senator Victoria Winterblaze (@Xorism), freshman FWA Senator Celeste Stythani (@LadyRen) and, to the Wookiee's immense relief, Grandmaster Voran (@Valen Pelora).

The Senator from Kashyyyk had hoped that this meeting would be different from the slog that Galactic Senate meetings typically were, but, as was becoming a common theme, the FWA was singled out and targeted early. Only centuries of political experience kept the Wookiee from showing the shock that rushed through his system as a Sith Champion (@llamallove) stood and named Celeste as a former Sith. Caught between a rock and a hard place- his loyalty to the Free World's Alliance grappling for superiority with his fury at the Sith- loyalty won, and the Wookiee decided it was finally time to introduce himself... and to put the bold Tiefling in her place. Swallowing a sudden Hutt-sized lump in his throat, he rose to speak.

"My name is Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl of Kashyyyk. The planet of Ruusan has our thanks for hosting this meeting." he said through his translator droid, though an introduction was hardly necessary. He had long been a champion for the Free World's Alliance in their struggle against the Sith, even defending his own planet against a bombardment. He was interested in peace, but only to the extent of one who had no desire to concede any more. "As for Senator Stythani's place in the FWA" - a glance over at the human - "it is indicative that the Free World's Alliance is open to talks with Sith who believe that the Empire's current war is wrong. Let us hope that the Empire is more unified in their desire for peace today than her defection suggests." The Empire had a long way to go to convince the aged Wookiee that they were negotiating in good faith, especially as they'd seen fit to send a representative from the recently-conquered New Alderaan (@The Good Doctor).

The first few introductions were almost uniform in that they were brief, informative and came with a message of hope. These introductions were, by and large, not really required. As an audience, those in attendance were overwhelmingly representatives in their own right or, failing that, aides to representatives also in attendance.

Polite applause followed the introduction and stated intentions of many of the attending representatives and diplomatic figures. Some garnered more attention than others due to their greater experience on the political stage (Galek Ordalos, Chancellor Xerxes) but some were far more controversial - the Jedi Grandmaster Voran was met with a splattering of applause but more than a little apprehension. After all, some of her more public political appearances had gone rather poorly for her and the public image of the Jedi.

What set the audience talking amongst themselves in frantic whispers was not, so much, the introduction of a Hutt. No, the introduction of the 'suspected' Crime Lord had caught some by surprise but they had quickly rallied to the idea - the general consensus being that if the Hutts were here as well, then even the criminal element of the Galaxy was willing to discuss peace across the stars. Instead, the biggest cause for muttering and, in one case, a literal spit-take, was the outing of Senator Stythani of Rattatak as a former Sith Champion by the tiefling Champion, Amira Din.

Several groups within the audience had different opinions on both the wide array of people included and the revelation dropped in the first five minutes of the summit. Already, some in the audience began to doubt that peace could even be discussed amongst people so clearly at odds. Loud mutterings began to spring up throughout the audience - how could the woman be trusted?

Did her people know?

Can she managed to use her vile Force magic to hoodwink the entire population of a planet?

By the time that the Senator of Kashyyyk seemed to directly address Amira's comments, there was danger in the air. Danger that this summit could become like many before it in the halls of the Galactic Senate and other diplomatic venues. That angry voices would drown out any and all calling for true peace amongst the Galaxy - all because of one secret, outed before every assembled diplomat and the audience behind the lens of every holo-recording device in the room. The difference here was Governor Omah himself, more than happy to act as a guiding voice to the summit that he had called.

And pull it back to the course he had originally set even as reporters were reporting on the news as it broke.

"My friends - I thank you one and all for heeding the invitation and the cries of a desperate Galaxy. Internal... policy... of certain states, while surprising, should not invalidate why we are all here, right? Please, let us return to the summit." he called out loudly, using the gravitas within his tone to pull the attention of the room back to him as he stood before audience and guests alike, gesturing to the audience now, "The assembled representatives have had chance to discuss amongst themselves before you all arrived and have selected three who will speak for them."

Already it was clear that this revelation was considered worthy of discussion but these speakers had prepared beforehand with the information already available to them. While caught off guard by this sudden revelation, they needed time to actually formulate how it affected their own visions for peace in the Galaxy.

With little in the way of preamble, and some cajoling in one case, three people from the audience stood to introduce themselves. One of them, a tall Chalactan man, wobbled slightly as the protocol droid Trini was sitting atop wobbled precariously and knocked against him. The man eyed the Professor with some amusement.

"It seems we may not have accommodated every species' comfort when it comes to this meeting." he noted drily before continuing, "I am Rishan Sedran of Chalacta - my neighbours have chosen me to be our local voice. I look forward to being able to open a dialogue here to protect the lives of many sentients yet to come - those who might otherwise have their lives cut short by war. My fellows; have our peoples not suffered enough?"

The other two, a female Twi'lek with crimson colouring and a sweaty, rotund, human man seemed happy enough to wait their turn, engrossed as they were in conversations with some of their neighbours. Indeed, it seemed that Rishan had the platform for now.

"My question here is for those currently, actively, at war. The Sith, the Jedi and the FWA - why is it that this is the first meaningful attempt made at finding a peaceful resolution to your conflict? Why is it that you have only sought an end to hostility, away from bloodshed, when hundreds of independent systems stand up and ask for peace?" he seemed to be growing more and more upset, genuinely distressed at the thought of it, "The Jedi who claim to be peacekeepers. The Sith who claim only to bring order. The FWA which claims status as victim while attacking just the same. Why is it that none of you have given peace a chance before now?"

He turned to the members of the New Republic, the ISC, the Independents and the Hutt.

"And you all... why is it that you have done nothing to try and end this war? You watch on the nightly holo as planets are burned and people charge into battle again and again - millions die. Do they have to be your own people before you care? Before you stand up and realize that you have had the power to pressure these prideful fools into peace." he eyed every faction present with that same level of earnest despair for the future he saw, "My people are alone in the Galaxy and yet we say; no more. We have always said; no more. Why is it that you haven't? Why have you been content to watch sentients die by the thousands for years at this point? And why should we believe you care any more now than you did before? Or is this... is this all just another thing you can add to your re-election campaign posters?"

Rishan sagged, emotionally drained, before he waved a hand to one of his supporters who had been reaching out for the man to try and steady him. Indeed, several of those around him clapped and stomped their feet in a show of support that disrupted much of the open conversation regarding the FWA and Sith Champions - the moral objectionist camp had put their position out with emotion and fire, as had been expected.

Celeste had attentively followed the introductions of the other diplomats, but as the Tiefling Champion made her way towards the podium, Celeste immediately had a bad feeling about this. She hadn't necessarily been on the bad side of Amira or any other of her former co-champions, but having a Sith representative in such a meeting came with certain risks. She wasn't surpised as Amira literally took advantage of the very first chance she had to call her out, but as this was no shocking relevation as her own people on Rattatak and a few of her fellow FWA senators knew about her past anyway.

She waited for the other diplomats to step forward and introduce themselves, but her gaze swiftly shifted onto the Tiefling when she was done. She was convinced that this would only backfire and so she was completely relaxed while the meeting went on. Celeste could not quite understand why Amira had felt obliged to let out such a snarky comment, but perhaps this was her twisted way of politics. The Din sister was apparently still convinced that she was standing on the right side, and perhaps it was time to try enlightening her, but the only thing that made Celeste indeed a little speechless was that her comment was neither expedient, nor fitting for such an event and so she questioned her intentions while she watched the rest with a slight amusement. She would wait her turn to react, for now she was curiously listening to what the Chalactan had to say.

The graveness of what he outlined was undeniable. This man was frustrated and Celeste could relate all to well. The ongoing war had cost way to many lives and homes and it was about time that things finally started to change and so she couldn't agree more. As soon as he was done, she moved forward to answer not only to him, but also to the rest of the audience. "Respectable attendants, before rumors start to spread I need to clarify one thing at first: I don't make a secret out of my past. I was born into the structures of the Empire and I had learnt that it is indeed capable of establishing order on the planet the Empire controls. I had tried to represent the Empire diplomatically for many years, but they have chosen to follow a different course, a course that I could no longer support".

She paused, her light blue eyes scanning through the crowd before her gaze landed on Amira (@llamallove) "What happened on Kashyyyk was a tragedy. The Sith Empire keeps coming back at planets, especially planets that are under the influential sphere of the FWA and they've repeatedly wanted to take them in their name. They kept expanding, endangered countless of lives and took the homes of those who resisted. This is not what I call peace. We are, however, not here to find any culprits. We are here to discuss how can progress into a new era of omnipresent peace. I had decided for myself that I could no longer support the Empire and I confidently stand behind my decision. I have decided to join the Free World Alliance as we are indeed attempting to make a difference...to contribute to peace in the galaxy. Just recently the Sith had decided to take New Alderaan and they've tried retaking Eridadu, and now there's fighting on Onderon. The list goes on and on, and by joining the FWA I have attempted to start making a difference. I'm not saying that other factions haven't committed mistakes as well, but this is also not the point of this debate. What we all want to do is looking ahead into a brighter future where one must not fear that the next invasion is right on the horizon...What is most important, however, is that this back and forth of violently taking and retaking must stop as it only costs countless lives. I say instead of invading, we start talking and openly discussing things in diplomatic dialogues".

She paused again, this time looking back at into the direction of Aezz and Victoria and all the other FWA senators before she went on. " We, as the Free World Alliance do not seek to expand and force our rule onto other planets. We are an alliance with its focus on defense, not offense. We protect and we support each other through trade agreements and every planet within our alliance benefits from all of that without losing its independence. I've joined the FWA myself because I wanted to know my planet is safe and supported. The war that is still raging across the Galaxy is meaningless and outdated and it is about time that it comes to an end. I was always a firm believer in diplomacy and that our voices are our most important tool. I cannot speak for what had been in the past, but I can assure you, Rishan Sedran, and all the others that the FWA will not actively contribute to promoting this war. Instead, and here I can only speak for myself, I will try to reach out as often as I can to negotiate in the name of peace. We need to talk about what happened and look for diplomatic solutions to prevent that history will repeat itself. I have this clear vision of peace in my mind and I'm confident that it is possible if we all start communicating again. Chancellor Xerxes (@Braden) has, for example, constituted an inspiring example when he had actively started a dialogue with the former Empress and this is exactly what we all should do". With that, she stepped back again and left the podium to others that would like to add something to this debate. She had said what she had wanted to share and her speech had gotten longer than intended, but she had to ensure that her point was coming across as intended. She didn't care who started what. It all had to stop for now, before discussions could begin. Too many innocent had bled and planets had been bombed and destroyed and this could no longer continue...

Lon listened to the opening statements and noted the wide variety of representatives who arrived from each of the galaxy's governments, and even from independent systems. There were even more... interesting representatives present. Lon had, of course, worked briefly with Nor'baal before, but given the outcomes, he had done his best to distance from those times.

The revelation about the former-Sith was interesting to be sure, and one that was already threatening to cause a commotion within the proceedings.

I appreciate the earnestness behind the words of our first speaker. There are many across every planet who are tired of this war. However, I don't believe that pointing fingers is the next step toward peace, he said.

Placing blame is all that has been done by every side since this began, and if we invite more of it today, I anticipate we'll leave here no more successful than when we arrived, he said.

I would like to hear, if it pleases the assembly, what it would take for both sides to lay down their arms and end this fighting, and see if we can begin working toward those goals, he said.

Boonta preserve me they're boring. Nor'baal shook his head as the assorted grandees started lamenting at the sorry state of the Galaxy in response to the question levied at them by this upstart spokebeing, who was flanked - Nor'baal had noticed - by two Twi'lek slaves. Bizarre behaviour, bringing one's pleasure slaves to such an event! the Hutt considered as he listened with feigned interest to what the spokes being had to say.

He was having a go at the Alliance, the Jedi and the Sith, three groups Nor'baal was always pleased to see on the receiving end of public abuse. Nor'baals mood soured, however, when the speaker's ire has directed at him. Glowing at the pathetic excuse for a creature that addressed him, the Hutt considered ordering his guards to whip some sense into it before remembering he didn't have his lackeys with him.

Curses!

He listened to the accusations being levied at him and by extension, the Hutt Clans. Charges suggesting that he had done nothing to end a war that was none of his concern. 'Millions had died', the speaker lamented, as if that was supposed to make a difference. Maybe they should have picked a winner then? the Hutt thought, as the speaker moved on from insulting him to demanding why he had not personally ordered the Sith Empire and the Jedi just 'stop fighting'.

Genius! Why had nobody thought of that before! Nor'baal could have rolled his eyes in frustration. This ill-manned upstart clearly had no idea how the game was played.

Gently, his Majordomo nudged him "You ought to say something, your immensity." Nor'baal rolled his eyes and huffed. Of course.

<The Clans welcome the comments made by,> he had quite forgotten the name of the impassioned speaker <...the speaker.> he hoped nobody had noticed his brief lapse in decorum <Yet the Clans are at a loss as to how we could have done more! When our errant scion, Durr the Hutt, was accused of unleashing his virus on the unwitting galaxy, was it not the Clans that took action and saw him removed from office?> Nor'baal repeated the lie he had told a thousand times already - that Durr was killed on Clan Orders.

<As for your other concerns, the Clans have no engaged in the barbaric practices of warfare for generations. I fail to see how the Hutts are to blame for the warlike manners of our galactic cohabitants? If the Jedi and Sith wish to take to the stars and fight over their beliefs, let them - it is not the responsibility of the Clans to make peace on your behalf.> he reminded them, a hard edge to his voice.

As the shaven Chalactan rose to introduce himself to his audience, it became clear that 'The Joining of the Minds' actually was a peace summit as the invitation had stated. It wasn't just an excuse for politicians from all across the galaxy to come together in neutral space to get high as the name might suggest. Which meant that Edin owed her twenty credits.

Amber eyes twinkled with mirth as the Tiefling listened to the Wookiee Senator, behaving as if he had known all along that his associate from Rattatak was a Sith, and using it to demonstrate the Free Worlds Alliance's willingness to give a voice to those Sith that disagreed with the war that continued to rage on between the two governments. Maybe he had known about Stythani's past life, but Amira doubted it. His face betrayed nothing, and how could it with all of that fur? She managed to catch his eye as he returned to his seat, tempted to blow him a kiss, but being the old single Wookiee that he was, that probably would've made his blood pressure skyrocket. Instead, she'd settle for a wink, just for his benefit.

The Tiefling would not point fingers or try to shift the blame. She would simply answer the Chalactan's question. "With all due respect," she began, realizing that the answer to his question greatly depended upon his definition of "meaningful attempt," but she would continue.

"Empress Andruil, before she stepped down, and Chancellor Xerxes..." There she turned to face the New Republic's leader, inclining her head with consideration for his position and his vital role, before her gaze once again settled on the Chalactan. "Successfully mediated peace between our two peoples, and the Empire has continued to honor that agreement. Empress Anaris has every intention of upholding that agreement." That had been a monumental day, a monumental meeting, televised for all of the galaxy to see. Former Chancellor Emil Ro had once bombarded Sith occupied Denon, but the governments had been able to move past that.

"A similar attempt was made by both representatives of the Free Worlds Alliance and the Sith Empire to broker peace between our warring nations," she continued, giving credit where credit was due, even to the Free Worlds Alliance. That meeting had been arranged by the Hutts, of all people, in a sail barge above Ubrikkia. Nor'baal Desilijic, in fact, who sat amongst their number now, had been its officiate, for lack of a better term. "Unfortunately, we were never able to reach an understanding.

"The Sith Empire and the Independent Systems Consortium have coexisted peacefully for years now. Our government is not averse to peace. We welcome it just as much as the rest of the representatives in attendance today, honored that an invitation was extended to us. I don't dare claim that we are faultless in this matter or that we could not do more to put an end to the fighting and bloodshed, but that is why we are here—to change that. The past does not have to be the precedent for the future."

The Free Worlds Alliance, although they proclaimed an inclination, had not taken greater measures to negotiate peace with the Sith. None of their senators, or even their former Prime Minister, had ever proactively sought out council with a Sith diplomat or the Empress herself. Their vehement and almost overwhelming disapproval of Senator Xerxes' proposal only days earlier in the Galactic Senate showed their unwillingness to have an open discussion with the Sith. Perhaps today it would be different.
