Greif had a strange way of robbing pieces of your soul. It made you feel as if bits of you were missing. Lost. Jedi Master Alexandria Voran had not existed since Max died. Alex had been barely keeping herself standing…that part of her that earned her place…gone. It was obvious to those who knew her. Kriff, it was obvious to those that didn’t. She had not been herself for weeks before ever setting foot on New Alderaan. Staring down the infected in that warehouse, she was not sure she ever would find herself again. Yet, the Force always seemed to illuminate the path when you lease expected it.

The fear in the eyes of the Rangers, the tension in the Force. Something snapped back into place. In that moment, Master Voran found herself again. The Force hummed brightly inside her chest. Oh yes, the pain of losing Max still beat in heart, but she could no longer allow that to define who she was. He would never have wanted that. She did not want that. Alex turned to meet Sevrin’s eyes. She nodded slowly. They could face whatever monster inhabited the Governor’s suite. Her eyes returned to the Rangers. “We can help…but we need to know exactly what we are up against.” She gestured towards the warehouse. “We are unlikely to survive underestimating him twice.” The Rangers spirits seemed to lift slightly. There was no magic Jedi wand they could wave, but they could at least try to remove the governor. She lowered her voice to speak to Sevrin.

“We’re going to need time to plan.” She looked back out at the Rangers. “Maybe some help depending on what we are up against.” The Force locked into place. This was the path. She knew it.

The Rangers all had their weapons lowered by then. They looked at one another, hope glinting in their eyes. Sevrin was a bit less optimistic. Thankfully, his face was perpetually a blank mask that seldom revealed anything. Jedi rarely managed to come in and fix situations in one fell swoop. They usually ended up creating more problems than before until stumbling and tripping into a solution.

“The Governor...There is a deal he has struck with a lot of the business executives and other industry leaders around here. Anyone that speaks up disappears, and conveniently the people in positions of power all have a great relationship with him,” The Ranger explained quietly, too quiet even for the other Rangers too hear, “Even if you expose it, I worry they will try to take you out first.”

Sevrin thought for a moment before turning to look at Alex, “This...smells like a spice or trafficking ring,” He said grimly. The words caused the Ranger’s eyes to widen, but Sevrin kept his cool. He wasn’t new to these situations as dark as they were.

Hope bubbled in the Force. They could see it on the Ranger’s faces. It was a pleasant sight, and Alex could only hope herself that it was not misguided. The Jedi could work miracles with the Force but likely not in the way the Rangers hoped. They would have to do their best. She met Sevrin’s gaze as he spoke. His voice appropriately grim. “I fear you’re right.” All the trappings of politics gone criminal hung over the scene. The Governor’s deadly need for secrecy was just one element. Alex’s eyes swept across the assembled group. She had a plan…a bad one.

“Sevrin, I need twenty-four hours…meet me here.” She quickly punched in coordinates on the outskirts of town into her datapad, tossing it to the tall Jedi. “And just in case, take this too.” The locator beacon beeped in her pocket as she handed over the other half. “I should be fine.” She smiled, feeling much more herself. There was one way to discover just how deed the rot ran. You had to trace the roots to get to the problem. Alex thought she knew the root to start with, but she needed to find her first.
