“I can’t do anything right,” Jade said. She tried to levitate the package that Rath had brought with him. It rose in the air, hovered towards them, and plunged like an overloaded cargo ship into the ground. Jade frowned. When she was a little girl she had loved counting the stars. She would gaze up into the black night sky and pretend each twinkling star was a ship that would ferry her away. But each of her ships kept sinking. She looked at the shovel Dash had frosted and ran her fingertip over it. Cold and smooth. She licked her lips. “Could you teach me how to do that?”
