Well Clove’s illusions weren’t strong enough to survive being moved around at speed and that was good to know. He had expected that the excitement of their continued ‘scheme’ and Alex’s involvement in said scheme would mean she had trouble holding the illusion but it was good to know he was right and Clove wasn’t some kind of unsung illusion mistress in training.

Yet.

Crix had a feeling that this was going to be just what Clove needed to truly see just how useful illusions could be. Seeing that the brush was actually going to connect, Crix blinked once before he cottoned onto what it was that Alex was aiming for. Turning into a pile of empty clothes was one hell of a trick and even doing it as an illusion was damned impressive.

Of course then Alex ‘reappeared’ as a spirit alongside Obi-Wan and Yoda. He tried his best but the laugh was bubbling up inside his chest and before he could stop himself he was struggling to keep himself from laughing.

“And peace… peace is a… a lie…hahaha!”
he broke out into fits of giggles as he finally let the illusions drop, showing that the physical appearance was actually make up and contact lenses, “What the hell is going on with his eyebrows?!”

He… he honestly hadn’t seen pictures of the older Obi-Wan Kenobi and now that he could see him it was just staggering to him how bad his eyebrows were. Had the man lived in a cave in the desert without human contact for a decade or something? Seriously!

“Oh mercy mercy, Alex… put the caterpillars on his eyes out of their misery.”
He joked, waving a hand, “How’s that for teaching eh?”

He winked at Clove.

“Think you got a better understanding for Force Illusions now kid?”

Clove's eyes shone brightly as she connected her brush against Alexandria's shoulder in mid-air. Then her feet hit the ground, and Alexandria was gone, leaving nothing but robes and armor on the ground next to her. It was so convincing that she thought she had killed her for a split second. But when the Jedi reappeared as a Force Ghost alongside Yoda and Obi-wan, she realized it was all part of the act. Silly, nobody could get killed by a jab on the shoulder with a brush. Right?

Crix's laugh was infectious, and she was giggling as well within seconds. It was less because of Obi-wan's caterpillars, although they were really messy and unkempt and he desperately needed a make-over, and more because of the fun and thrills she had just experienced. She felt nothing but bright, bubbling happiness, and her signature warm smile returned to her lips.

He then winked at her, causing her to pause for a moment. She had no idea that a silly Hallowe'en prank could turn into such a meaningful lesson. But it did. She had gained a better understanding of Force Illusions. Everything Alexandria and Crix had done during this imaginary battle was beyond her wildest dreams. And it inspired her, visually so. Her determination could be seen in her large brown eyes. She was going to be just as good as them in both the Force and Force Illusions! And the thought of using these illusions on the battlefield as a Battle-medic? It was perfect.

"It was so awesome!" Her voice had returned to its usual happy high-pitched fizzy tone. "I had no idea any of this was even possible. I'm going to keep practicing this, as well as the Force in general, now that I've gained a better understanding of it! I know what I want to do now!"

The half-Sephi's upper body lowered into a bow.

"Thank you. Both of you!"

The room was filled with laughter. Alex couldn’t help herself. She was tired but seeing the joy on Crix and Clove made it easy to set aside. She genuinely was doubled over laughing. The illusion easily faded to allow the room to return to normal. The ghostly visages of Master Yoda and scraggly Obi-Wan disappearing. “Master Kenobi is a legend…how dare you criticize his brow upkeep.” She laughed again. Crix had done well to show Clove the practicalities of the Force. You learned best through doing. The stodgy classrooms in the Temple could only teach so much.

“Despite his appearance, the Darth here is right. You have valuable lessons to learn here in the Temple, but the truest understanding of the Force comes from doing. You won’t learn that just wandering around the Temple halls.” Alex’s eyes narrowed. Her thoughts churning. The Force was nudging her forward. She hummed. She had just conjured Master Yoda. Perhaps, a little of his personality would help. Crix was young…one of the youngest Jedi Knights…and he made some rash choices…but he had a good heart. That was so rare, even among the Jedi.

“You know, Jedi Aran has been looking for students. Haven’t you Crix?” Alex’s eyes settled on the young man. “There is much he can show you, will show you.” The Morellian Jedi smiled. “And not just here in the Temple.” The Order could do far worse than a few more Jedi who cared as deeply as Crix. “But I swear by all the mysteries of the Force if I catch either of you dressed as a Sith Lord again…I’ll lock you in the dungeons myself.” The Temple of course had no dungeons, but they did not need to know that. “Now go have fun and leave the crabby old Grandmaster alone.” A soft smiled blossomed across her face. This was her home and who she was meant to be. Everything felt right.

Did… did he just accidentally pick up a Padawan learner?

Yeah it did kind of track that he would gain a Padawan through such an unexpected route considering his other Padawan he had literally picked up floating through space. He would be the first to say that he wasn’t precisely a conventional Jedi so, he supposed, it made perfect sense that he gained Padawans in an unconventional manner.

Looking from Alex to Clove a few times, he grinned.

“I think you’ve just got yourself a Master, fairy.”
He teased Clove, giving her one of the fingerguns, “If you think you’re ready to work yourself to the bone of course. Don’t let my dazzling sense of humor throw you – if you agree to work under me, you’re going to work harder than you’ve ever worked before.”

He had thought he would have a fun and easy time of it when he became Hannibal’s Padawan because he had been fun and joking around so often. But just like Hannibal had shown him, he would show Clove that just having fun wasn’t an option – sometimes hard work was the only option. And when you were training for battle, there was no kill like overkill.

Regardless of what Clove said, Crix would turn to Alex and give her a little smile that looked so very out of place on a face currently painted up to look like an ancient Sith.

“Welcome back Alex.”
He said simply before placing his hands behind his head and making for the exit, “We’ll get out of your hair. Though, for real, consider coloring it yeah? Green would suit you!”

Clove blinked, twice, and tilted her head to the right.

Crix was going to be her Master? A Knight she'd met because of Hallowe'en, of all the moments they could've met? It was extremely typical for this to happen on her favorite holiday while she was dressed as a Sugar fairy. She did, however, enjoy his company, and he truly had a brilliant sense of humor. But would he be bothered by her frailty? Her obsession with becoming a healer, even though he was clearly the polar opposite of her?

No, if anything, it made Crix even better. He could help her grow into a stronger, more capable person who is more than just a healer. Besides that, he had already taught her a fair amount about the Force in the brief time they had met, suggesting that his teaching methods clearly worked for her. And he promised she'd have to work harder than she'd ever worked before; wasn't that why she'd left her parents' farm in the first place? Finding work and helping others, putting her hands to good use? Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Clove's eyes grew twice as big and sparkled with excitement as realization set in. She was becoming his Padawan learner!

"Of course, Darth—" She cut herself off in the middle of a sentence and smiled timidly towards Alexandria before correcting herself. "Master Aran. It'd be an absolute honor! I'll work as hard as possible and I won't fail you!" Her voice dripped with determination; she was going to show him that he wouldn't regret his decision.

Clove turned to face Alexandria with a bright and grateful smile, bouncing on her slightly uncomfortable heels. She gracefully lowered her upper body into a bow before straightening her spine and leaping to the exit behind Crix. Her new Master's remark about the hair-dye reminded her about the hairbrush she was still holding in her hands. Errrrr. Right. With her head bowed, she dashed over to Alexandria's dresser, slid the brush on top of it, and hurried back to Crix as if nothing had happened.

Excitedly Clove turned her gaze towards Crix after they had left Alexandria's room and closed her lockpicked door. "So! What's next?!"

And just like that, Crix was no longer the fun-young-adult-dressed-as-a-Darth but, instead, ‘Master’. He was glad he didn’t have hair because he was certain that his hair would have turned white at being addressed in such a way. It felt like he had aged four decades in a single instance and suddenly he understood why his mother had said she felt old when he’d turned ten.

Wait… crap.

He was a Jedi acting as Master to someone who was his Padawan.

He was responsible for her growth, wellbeing and development as a person as much as a Jedi.

CRAP.

He’d just become a battle parent… oh he was suddenly unsure if he was ready for this whole thing but he ignored the panic that threatened to grip him. There wasn’t any reason to panic, right? He had grown up and he had managed to avoid dying and had improved as a Jedi a lot in the recent past.

Crix looked to Clove and gave her his most confident smile.

“What’s next, my little Padawan? Why my little Fairy…”

The smile turned almost predatory.

“It’s time for a training montage.”

He was certain he managed to make it at least as ominous as Hannibal’s delivery of the same line to him some years ago.

Clove returned Crix's cheerful smile. She was completely convinced by his smile and even felt confident in their new... partnership? Yeh, you could call it a partnership! Especially after he called her "fairy." It was relieving something like that wouldn't change.

Then he flipped the card and, with his predatory smile and Sith make-up, he became terrifying. To make matters worse, he requested a training montage with the most unsettling tone. Whatever he was doing was working, because goosebumps ran up her spine and down the half-Sephi's arms. Nonetheless, despite everything, she was ready!

"After you, Darth Crix!"
