The Rebellion
A.R.E.S.

A.R.E.S. (Or ARES) is an operational branch of the Rebellion founded by Enfali Tragati and Terrsyin Pearot after a sect of the Imperial Knights joined with the Rebels. After the Rebellion was founded and began making headway in its small-scale operations in opposition to the Empire, Tragati split with the Imperial Knights who were insistent on going forward with an almost certainly suicidal attack on the Empire. Together with members of the True Throne (An organization of Anti-Sith Imperials) and the remnants of the Imperial Knights she sought out the Rebellion. Eventually reaching an agreement Tragati and the Rebel’s Leader, General Terrsyn Pearot, began to formulated the idea of ARES, which was planned to operate as an intelligence and espionage sub-branch of the Rebellion.

ARES stands for Analysis, Reconnaissance, Espionage, and Sabotage, with its members filling all the informational needs of the Rebellion. The program is manned by two types of individuals; The Imperial Marshalls (formerly Imperial Knights), and Operatives. Together, the Marshalls and Operatives act as the tip of the spear in counter-Sith warfare acting as both a Force-sensitive front line, and informational filter providing the Rebels with the skills needed to help level the field against the much larger powers they face.

Ranking Structure

ARES does not use a ranking structure like a military organization would. There are simply not enough personnel in the group to warrant one, and the skill sets of the individuals that make up ARES are too diverse for a comparison of rank to make much sense. Some might be specialized in slicing while others are simply skilled at blending in. The only dividing line in ARES is between the Operatives who make up the bulk of the organization, and the Marshall's which represent the remnant of the Imperial Knights that joined up with the Rebellion.

Operatives

ARES Operatives can come from all walks of life and are dedicated to fighting the Sith with intelligence and subterfuge. The Operatives originated from the Anti-Sith Imperials who'd left with members of the Imperial Knights to become part of the Rebellion joining forces with former members of the various Alliance Intelligence Services, and more subterfuge inclined members of the Civilian Resistance to form the backbone of ARES. While many Operatives have a military background the nature of their work demands that combat takes a backseat to the task at hand. Whether it's collecting information discretely, analyzing data, or committing acts of sabotage, an Operative is expected to use his brain first and his blaster second.

Their job isn't to win fights with guns, it's to win them with smarts. In the field Operatives often provide key intelligence for their comrades, helping them to negotiate what would otherwise be insurmountable obstacles, and are often skilled in completing missions with a minimum of bloodshed. There are only a handful of Operatives at present so oftentimes only an individual Operative, or a pair will be seen in the field working with the Rebel Militia and members of the Civilian Resistance.

While there is a dividing line in ARES between Operatives and Marshalls, there are no ranks in the strictest sense. An Operative does not outrank a member of the civilian resistance or the Rebel militia. Like the other two parts of the Rebellion, Operatives are largely appointed to tasks and roles based on the needs of a mission and their particular skill sets. At present ARES does not have the facilities needed to organize a full scale training for it's operatives. Instead training is largely informal more based off of learning from more experienced Operatives, using whatever skills new members may already possess, and learning through the process of total immersion. Likewise there's not standard set of equipment that could be used to identify someone as being a part of ARES. Instead Operatives are encouraged to equip themselves however they feel is best for the completion of an assignment.

Imperial Marshalls

The Imperial Marshall's were formed from the remnants of the Imperial Knights that joined the Rebellion along with other Anti-Sith Imperial elements. Within the Rebellion the Marshall's are a part of ARES, providing the Rebels with a effective counter against Force Using Organizations that might use their abilities to gain an edge over the fledgling Rebellion. Unlike how the Jedi in the days of old however, the Marshall's do not have the numbers to turn the tide on their own. Instead they operate discretely much like the Operatives. And when the time is right the Marshall uses his powers of the force to their fellow members of the Rebellion. Whereas an Operative might have to rely more on technical know how, a Marshall relies more on his knowledge of the Force to gain the upper hand.

While on paper their role in the Rebellion might be similar to that of the Operative, the Marshall has a distinct task that sets them apart. With the exception of the handful of Jedi that stayed to fight with the Rebels, the Marshall's represent the only force using group on the side of the Rebels at present. It's their job to hold the line when the Rebellion finds itself facing other force users, and ensure that no other group can use its knowledge of the force to infiltrate the Rebellion. It is also the duty of the Marshall to further the training of force sensitives in the Rebellion who wish to do so, and keep them from falling to the darkside. They are however limited by circumstances in their ability to train new recruits as at this point the teachings of the Imperial Knights the Marshall's utilize have been reduced greatly due to a lack of access and a lack of members.

The Marshall's also have a unique relationship with the rest of the Rebellion that sets them apart. Together with the small number of Anti-Sith Imperial's in the Rebellion they form a bloc that does not seek the creation of a New Republic. Instead it is their goal to restore the True Empire, as it was before the Sith took it over. For the foreseeable future this goal is compatible with that of the other Rebels, as before any of that can be decided the Sith first have to be dealt with. However this difference of opinion has led to some tensions and should the Rebellion succeed it will without a doubt be a source for potential conflict. For now though the Marshall's represent a portion of the Rebellion that's perhaps one of the most committed to the defeat of the Sith and one that has seen battle with them on countless occasions under the name of the Imperial Knights.
