OOC: Takes place prior to the Core Campaign. Class "Surviving Alone".

Shi-Gel-Hu had come to Tython to visit his apprentice, Ryloss. However, Ryloss was busy that day, so the Nautolan decided to host a class. He titled it "Surviving Alone". He didn't care for the typical "meditate", "lift a rock", "swing a lightsaber", etc. sort of classes that were common in the Jedi. He found them useful, but rarely did they allow for real-life applications.

Only two individuals braved the registration. The names submitted were Ze'kyre Saixc and Arai Munkaira. Both now were with him aboard a LAAT/i that surfed a low apogee above the sea of trees on Tython. He had not yet said much except greet them upon when they boarded.

"Tython is such a beautiful place, wouldn't you agree?" Shi-Gel-Hu posed to the two Padawans.

Ever since him and Virturvian had ran into the swarm of hook hawks almost a year ago, Arai has tried to be more prepared because on that day he learned anything can go wrong and it was best to be ready for it. When he heard a Jedi Master, Shi-Gel-Hu, had come to Tython and was conducting a class to teach Jedi how to survive outside the safety of the temple, Arai could not resist the chance to learn something about the unknown dangers that he could run into in the wilderness or better yet, the universe.

Arai had never see an LAAT gunship before, let alone been inside one. His red eyes scanned around the exterior, marveling silently to himself until they came fixed on the glossy black eyes of the Jedi Master. His tall overwhelming body reminded the twelve year body just how much growing he still needed to do but just like this opportunity to learn something new, 'in time it will come'. Arai greeted the master with a formal bow and introduced himself. “Good day Master Shi-Gel-Hu, I am Arai Munkaira. I am pleased to meet you and participate in your class.” He said, not knowing if he sounded tense or excited while trying to relax.

He sought calmness from the silver-white haired boy that was with him and looked no older than himself but was of an near-human species unfamiliar to him. Never had Arai seen him at the temple on Tython or heard his name before until today, making the padawan suspect he was new to the planet. Taking note each of his eyes bared a different color, Arai starred at him trying to figure out what the original color was or if he was born that but averted his eyes as he felt incredibly rude for his random curiosity.

In a two steps he came to stand at the edge of the open door, staring out into the endless and green landscape lusted in Tythos' light that warmed his face while the rushing air cooled it. The passing wind was refreshing and even had his cream robe and short jet black hair flapping about. “Very beautiful.” He said, agreeing with the master but his eyes kept awestruck on the vast scenery. Arai was born on the planet and has been exposed to its immaculate beauty ever since. Yet, he still haven't even considered seeing over ten percent of the planet and knowing far less of what lived in it. Which is also the very reason why he knew it was a danger to him. The unknown has always been a problem of concern for the padawan, a reason why he strides for knowledge so he can handle unforeseen factors better than the last time he had to face one. Arai then turned around, looking at the two others with him. “and very dangerous if you do not know a thing about it or what's in it.”

Ze'kyre had enjoyed the silence he had found since arriving on Tython. It was not as busy as the city of Coruscant, always bustling with activity. Even here as the three of them sat in silence, two young Jedi and their new teacher, did he feel at peace. The opportunity to learn was a prospect he always enjoyed, and there was no way of knowing how valuable this new found knowledge would be. Arai Munkairo, the other boy introduced himself, before making eye contact with the young echani monk. Ze'kyre did not break it, as it was his instinct to stand out of his seat and introduce himself through combat. However he refrained from acting on such an impulse, remembering just in time that others did not communicate through battle the way he did. Still, the contact lasted a while, and Ze'kyre's gaze grew somewhat piercing, especially in the silver eye. His basilisk like stare was a mask, giving no sign of his thoughts. He had not yet begun to master - or even recognize - the art of expressing oneself through facial cues. He blinked only after Arai looked away, but his gaze followed the other padawan as he approached the opening door.

"Tython is such a beautiful place, wouldn't you agree?" Asked Master Shi-Gel-Hu, and the black robed Echani inclined his head to side slightly. Beautiful, is that the word for it? Ze'kyre stood up and took a few graceful steps until he stood beside the other boy. He looked out the ramp-way, his dischromatic eyes scanning in the panorama in a serene silence. It was quite a harmony. They were right, it was beautiful.

But Arai's warning also held true, which Ze'kyre acknowledged with a nod to the other boy. He did not feel very talkative, in fact speech had been a barrier his entire time with the Jedi. The monks of the Eshan Order found little use for talk. He was excited, he just did not know quite how to show it. Still, he knew he must try. "Thank you, Master Shi-Gel-Hu" he said, his accent very apparent in its oriental deliberateness. "It's pleasure to meet you, Arai. Am Ze'kyre Saixc."

The Echani, Arai he had introduced himself, held the same degree of respect for nature's beauty. However, he also held respect for its dangers. That was good. Someone who understood that danger didn't have to have fangs, claws, evil laughs, spikes, and black capes. It could be beautiful too. Anything could be dangerous. However, that did not mean everything had to be perceived as a threat, as the Sith do. No, rather, one should hold respect for damage it could do if its wrath were invoked. As such, respect should be given to prevent invocation of such hostilities.

The other Padawan had less to contribute to the dialogue of nature's beauty. Instead he prioritized greeting his fellow student. Shi-Gel-Hu considered letting it continue and foster, but thought a more natural environment would work better. Move himself to the other end, as if to look at the other side, the Nautolan suddenly turned around and unleashed a Force Push upon both Padawans, knocking them out of the LAAT/i. The Jedi teacher had purposely instructed the pilot to fly low enough and slow enough that such a fall may get some bruises, but wouldn't break anything. Shi-Gel-Hu would remain in contact through telepathy.

'Welcome to your first lesson,' Shi-Gel-Hu sent. 'Show your prowl in braving the wilderness. If you go due east, you'll arrive at a Jedi living quarters. It's a few miles, and you'll want to be careful of any creatures that live in these jungles. There are also natural obstacles you'll have to overcome.' And with that, the Jedi ended the telepathic message.

Such sudden exposure to the environment they would be trying to survive could be seen as mad. However, Shi-Gel-Hu had learned from personal experience that such methods came in useful. Not only did it force the two students to rely on each other and their wits, it also allows the teacher to see where they start and where to begin. If a teacher starts a lesson that the student already knows, the student gets bored and doesn't pay attention, even when new material is exposed, the motivation has died. If a teacher starts a lesson too advanced, the student is lost, and it is a difficult battle to fill the gap.

“Likewise Ze’kyre,” Arai greeted him with a slight nod and friendly smirk. He was excited not to be one this alone and meet someone his age, but he could not tell if Ze’kyre felt the same way. His expression remained blank and unreadable as a Calamarian. Arai did not mind or see it as something negative. He knew not all species in the galaxy showed emotions the same way as humans and was not prejudice about it. He hoped to get to know Ze’Kyre Saixc during their time together for the remainder of the mission, whenever it was to actually begin.

They had been flying for a pretty long time now, which Arai suspected they couldn’t be that far from wherever since the pilot was flying slowly and at a low altitude just above the tree line that suggested they might be landing soon. “I wonder what Master Shi-Gel-Hu has in store for us.” He asked out loud to himself in a low voice that might have caught Ze’kyre’s ears. Before Arai knew it, he and Ze’kyre had been force pushed out of the ship by the Master.

This took the Padawan by complete surprise and instantly had to shield his eyes with his arm as crashed through the top of a tree. The leaves softened up the impact by only a fraction before he was battered by branches not thick enough to support his weight. Arai fell at least twenty feet before his back smack landed on a branch wide enough to hold him. He stayed there as the pain finally caught up to him, throbbing coming from his chest, rib cage, thigh, and back. This pain was accepted with a groan as he leaned up, shaking twigs, bugs, and leaves out of his hair.

Arai heard the voice of Shi-Gel-Hu in his mind and listened carefully as the master spoke through the force. “So it finally begins,” he said as he stood up and looked around. This part of the jungle was a lot thicker than the region he had been with while training under the Knight Virtruvian, with everything looking twice as overgrown. He would have to be more careful as he didn’t know much about where he was at. ‘Expect the unexpected.’ He told himself, because is exactly one of the lessons he just learned from the Master pushing them without any warning, but that had to be part of the lesson right?

He turned east, looking in the direction and wondered what challenges that were in their way. The only thing Arai had on him is a blue practice saber clipped to the side of his belt. He haven’t built his own yet and still wasn’t sure if he was ready for the real thing, but one a real one would come in handy if they came across hook hawks or worse. It was possible that Ze’kyre had one, but Arai hadn’t seen the padawan since they were in mid-air. He rose his presence in the force so that Ze’kyre could find him and hopped from branch to branch to scale down the hundred meters tree until he reached the ground and then waited patiently for a sign from the other padawan.

Ze'kyre was curious about what was in store as well, when all of a sudden his mind was seized by a sudden alertness, the warrior's instinct that was traditionally followed by danger. The young Echani looked towards the Nautolan Master, and called his sword from his seat, and into his hand. he was hardly profficient with Telekinesis, but the sword was his most prized possession, and it always answered his call quite harmoniously. It is hard to say whether or not the twin blades would have remained sheathed for another instant, if he had had not been blasted from his position by the invisible breath of the Great Dragon, called upon by the Nautolan in what seemed like an act of treachery. But when all of a sudden there was nothing beneath him, thought became a fleeting thing.

Ze'kyre was very acrobatic, so it was not hard to put his feet beneath him and curl up in time to crash through the leaves and brambles. The sword in his left hand was tucked to his right side to decrease its mass, and allow him to cover anything that might be caused harm. He turned his back to the ground and reached out with his left arm, hoping to catch himself by his sword on the branches. His quick action paid off, and the Echani hung suspended from the high branches, his left hand holding his weight by the middle of his sword rather easily as he scanned the area around and below him.

The rustling and snapping of nearby branches told him that his companion was still falling, and he soon heard a thud. There was too much foliage to see Arai, but Ze'kyre trusted he had not been heard too bad when he did not hear any cries of pain. When Shi-Gel-Hu contacted him telepathically, it surprised Ze'kyre. He had heard of such an ability, but never experienced it himself, not unless that is what his species had learned to tap into in the midst of combat. The feeling had many similarities, but lacked the genuine trust that one could give to combat, which was to say that he could be lied to through words, and even through thoughts, but not through battle.

When the message ended, nothing seemed to change about Ze'kyre's disposition. If he felt betrayed, he did not show it, but instead, simply began to swing his body. Gathering the momentum, he tossed himself forwards, twisting so that his weapon would fit between the branches, and he could land on a thicker branch below him. He began to feel the presence of Arai through the force. The ability to Sense the presence of the Great Dragon was fundamental to the Jedi, and had been pressed by the monks of Eshan as well, so the young warrior had spent much of his meditation over the past year or so learning to see without seeing. It is interesting, all the reality your eyes are blind to.

He followed Arai's signature down to the floor, jumping from a branch to land beside the other padawan with an agile roll. Popping back up to his feet, he started walking east casually, confident that his partner would be behind him. "Few miles... not far," he said in his orientally accented and broken Basic. He did not think this would be easy, but he knew there was little point to waiting here for something to find them. Perhaps his life would be at risk today. It was a thought he relished dearly, for a true warrior knew that his death was always with him, following him, waiting for the day that it would tap him on the shoulder and take him to the heavens. If you are dedicated, you make your death your best friend. It will motivate you, inspire you, call you out when you spend your moments not living to your fullest potential. He was still young, but his body yearned for the chance to express himself truly, and to tell his death, 'not today.'

Arai's red eyes followed Ze'kyre as he came down into a roll and spring on his feet with agility he secretly envied, yet admired this about the other padawan. "Smooth landing," Arai said coming up to walk beside Ze'kyre as they began to head east. He listened to the Ze’kyre, seems he got the same message from the master has he did but the miles were not a concern compared to what they while probably have to face.

“Doesn’t seem far doesn’t? But out here anything goes, that includes the wrong way. As Master Shi-Gel-Hu said, there will be obstacles to make this journey a whole lot longer.” The young Tythonian spoke a casual warning and insight from his past experience. He looked around to take in what was around them, so far they just seemed to be surrounded by trees and giant turquoise colored bushes that had oval shaped leaves.

Arai suspected they had to be in ancient part of this jungle because the roots here were giant and growing out the ground. He had to step up on one covered in dark green moss, still wet and slippery from a prior rain but the padawan had good footing. Arai kept walking over them, not even slipping on the moss that covered most of them with superb balance. He was doing fine for a moment before he stepped onto a weak root that broke under him. His body was quickly being swallowed into the dark abyss bellow him but managed to catch onto another root. He took in a deep breath and blew out a sign of relief. “Well that was close.” He pulled himself and looked down at the black hole. Who knows what could be done there?

Ze'kyre hummed and nodded in agreement, before the two continued on in silence. Ze'kyre had never seen such flora on Thyrsus. Tython was much more vibrant, which pleased Ze'kyre aesthetically, his dichromatic eyes alert to any sudden dangers as he took in the view. It was so calm, and as master Shi-Gel-Hu had said, beautiful. Ze'kyre almost did not want leave, almost preferring to sit down in meditation. But he knew that this was not just his own exercise, and committed to keeping up with his partner, Arai.

Having fell back slightly, he watched as Arai made his way across the moss-covered roots. They had grown thick and gnarled, often covering whole areas of the forest floor and underbrush surrounding them, and Ze'kyre found out just how slippery they were first hand as he hopped up after Arai. He quickly regained his footing, and followed cautiously behind the other padawan. There was a point where it seemed like the ground had been so covered in the shadows of the old roots, that it had disappeared. Ze'kyre knelt down and reached through some of the roots. The ground was no longer there.

The snapping of Arai's footing alerted Ze'kyre, who quickly rose to his own feet. After vaulting over a tree branch, he stopped just short of where Arai had fallen, and was relieved to still be able to see him. He silently helped the other padawan back up onto the root, using the length of his sword's sheath to easily reach down and give Arai something to grip onto. When the two stood again side-by-side, Ze'kyre peered down the abyss as well. Something had probably made a home down there, he could almost feel it looking back at them. He reached down with the Force, and unlocked the sheath to his sword before quickly strapping it to his back, the hilt protruding from over his right shoulder.

"Don't know, is down," he conceded with his broken basic. "But we should move or else we find out." No sooner did he finish speaking than the two heard the hiss of their new predator. He could sense the ominous approach of the creature, and he slowly backed up, urging Arai to do likewise by gently placing his hand on the other padawan's shoulder. The sun was low in the sky, and would soon be setting, but he caught a glimpse of the creature that pursued them. The spider-bear would likely not attack until the sun set, but it looked like a big one. He had heard of such a creature back on Thyrsus. An overgrown spider with the jaw of a bear. Monks had often encountered them on their pilgrimage away from the Monastery, usually hidden away in caves protected by their thick webs, that would often be near impossible to break free of if entangled amidst.

Ze'kyre turned and cautiously made his way around and away from the pit. The first of their detours had been reached, and upon it they had caught the attention of a rather dangerous beast. In the back of his mind he hoped that their teacher was still with them somehow. Falling down around the cave would surely mean getting stuck in the webbing. He could only hope that it would not follow them, or that they could find more secure footing by the time it attacked.
