Jayna was silent as a crypt - just as she had been since the call with Emryc.

The Heiress had nothing to say as Emryc reprimanded her political decisions - expressing his disapproval before cutting her off entirely from the family estate. She had nothing to say as the world around her seemed to shattered into a thousand, fragile pieces. It brought tears to stain the sides of her face, emotions bubbling to the surface that were so often contained beneath the surface. The fact that Jaikus had made no attempt to reach out either? It was all the confirmation that Jayna needed to understand she’d angered even him.

That her own political decisions - bringing scrutiny upon their family for the first time in years - had burned bridges with even those closest to her.

Her mind was lost in complete disarray - even as the Heiress slumped forward within the lounge of her personal ship. She wanted to lash out at the very furniture and finery that surrounded her - the very last of her personal belongings she’d have access to. She wanted to cry and scream into the night until she was numb. She wanted to hate the family that so easily turned its back on her for stepping out of line, no matter the devotion she had shown throughout her life.

And yet those seeds of doubt remained. Doubt that she had made the wrong choice - leaving herself isolated amongst the wolves of the Galaxy. She knew just how ruthless she would need to be to succeed. Could Jayna even rely upon the support of those she’d isolated her family for? Could she actually rely on Leon? (@Zay) On Ezra? (@Sreeya) On Theia? (@GABA) They were the closest people remaining to her, and yet all logic predicted the way they would align, no matter how much she wanted to believe otherwise. No matter the feelings that had begun to develop.

Was Shaw right? Had she stepped into an arena she simply wasn’t prepared for?

Jayna squeezed her eyes tightly together, exhaling slowly through her nostrils. For the very first time, the Heiress kept completely alone within the Galaxy, with only her own thoughts to keep her company. But it wasn’t her own voice that echoed within her mind - but the lessons of another, reiterated to her since the time she was a child.

You are a Thorne. You are a survivor. You will not simply run away from those that threaten you. You will break them.

It was the same lesson that had been drilled into Ezra. The very philosophy that their father had instilled into his children. And it was all that Jayna had left to guide her through the trials ahead of her.
