DESCRIPTION
AL-T utility droids are an aging model of repair and labor droid originally produced by Duwani Mechanical Products. Originally sold prior to and during the Galactic Civil War, the AL-T was a popular alternative to a full-fledged astromech, lacking a full-fledged astromech's dedicated astrogation circuitry and stock pilot capabilities, which in turn reduced the unit's cost. Despite this, the AL-T boasted all the standard tools and other capabilities of an astromech, making it useful for repair and maintenance duties. The unit also boasted a versatile tracked locomotion system, which gave it better performance on terrain that some other non-legged droids struggled with.

AL-T utility droids are not, strictly speaking, astromech droids, but can be easily fitted with parts intended for such models. They can also fit in a standard astromech socket. Software-based fixes have also enabled the AL-T to perform hyperspace calculations, allowing it to function as an astromech if needed; some owners have also been known to modify their AL-Ts with astrogation circuits from R-series droids.

LEGALITY
Legal. Utility droids such as the AL-T are permitted in most regions of the Galaxy.

INTENT
To create a standard utility droid, and to bring an interesting droid from Canon to the site.
