Tina’s was one of many cantinas that saw the hustle and bustle of singles and couples, traders and travelers, do-gooder’s and evildoers, drunkards both good and bad and cover bands about the same. And the odd blue light when the stars are right. Or red when the stars are wrong.
Leh’Min’Ayd’s light was tucked away at her waist, the saber’s hilt cloaked by a yellow leather jacket, hand turning a glass of brandy on the bar while she mused over nothing. At least, brandy is what the amber liquid might pass for since she did not pass getting carded.
“Can you turn that up?” The girl asked from her stool. The thrum of music coming from ceiling speakers blurred into the background as Lem gazed at a viewscreen above shelf of ebony bottles.
“Ouch,” Lemon’s lips twisted. “I wonder what this Skinner killer’s deal is. And that reporter’s.”
“And my wife’s! Tossing my Timsong HV into the pool like that! I’ll show YOU what channel-surfing looks like!” Narrated some drunk before kissing the counter with his forehead, freeing up a stool for the next patron who came by.
I guess, in a galaxy this crazy, we’re all just channel-surfing for a better show. Lem licked apple juice from her lips and wondered what sipping amber brandy from an ebony bottle in a 500 Republica penthouse might feel like for a kid born in an alley.
