Capital of Iziz, Onderon
Open to all Galactic Senate politicians/diplomats and their guests)

The assembly of the Galactic Senate had drug on for hours, but Cassian had come to expect nothing less from his colleagues. They were politicians, after all, and by nature loved the sound of their own voices. Supposing he himself was not exempt from that particular characteristic, he smiled to himself.

This senate assembly in particular had been full of unexpected twists and turns, from a New Republic Grand Admiral knocked unconscious by his own aide to the Jedi being escorted from the senate chambers by security. No one could deny that it had been an interesting day, but perhaps colorful was a more apt description.

It was a chill evening, and the cold wind that whipped around durasteel corners cut right through clothing. The weather was something everyone had been quick to comment on today. Typically, Onderon enjoyed a temperate climate, but that was not the case year round. The planet's increased humidity only made the cold more penetrating.

The colder weather did not bother Cassian like it did some of the others, but he did take his colleague's comforts into consideration and instructed that a fire be lit in the hearth. He'd also requested that a fresh cup of tea be put on for the Senator of Tanaab, should he come. It was the least Cassian could do after the kindness the Ithorian had showed him earlier that day.

Refreshments had already been placed, and music floated casually through the apartment, all thanks to the surround sound system Cassian had installed the year before. Onderon's taxpayer money put to good use.

"You should straighten your tie," Kiacro suggested, the young Bivall assistant lingering near the fireplace. Cassian usually dismissed Kiacro of an evening, but the Bivall had insisted that his presence would be needed tonight. He'd also insisted that they request each senator RSVP, but Cassian had ixnayed that idea right away. The invitations had been sent to each senator's datapads. That was sufficient.

"It's a party," Cassian replied, smiling over at his assistant with a twinkle in his eyes. "The point is to cut loose after a long day."

Kiacro pursed his lips but knew not to say anything more on the subject.

The Zeltron turned back toward the large window of his apartment and stared out at the city below. Guests would be arriving any minute now.

Senator Vaisra had stayed silent for much of the assembly today. There were a great many things he would have liked to say, but knew they would make no difference. He supported the majority vote on every agenda. The only reason he said nothing of the sanction’s repeal and the Jedi’s removal was to stop from looking like a hypocrite, and mostly to appear neutral. After the sanction fiasco, Jin had to tone down his ‘compassionate’ side and return his focus to Fondor's shipbuilding empire.

Unlike his colleagues or those in the Free Worlds, he couldn’t go around pissing off every senator in a mile radius.

Which was exactly why he was attending this party.

Jin wore the same outfit he did back in the Senate chambers: a traditional suit jacket with a blue sash, representative of the New Republic, with gold embroidered in the collar and in every button down to his waist. For such a small gathering he felt overdressed, but at least that meant he would stay the best-looking in the room—unless Emryc arrived, god forbid.

As he entered the suite’s foyer, Jin leaned over to Venka, well out of earshot from anyone else, and sighed. “An apartment? I shouldn’t be surprised. Onderon has always been a cheap backwater world with higher mortality rates than market caps. I mean, Sibyl hosted an opera after the last session. You’d think Cassian could at least rent out a ballroom in that fancy palace by the—” He turned the corner to find the Senator of Onderon lurking by the fireplace, “—ah, Senator Graves! It’s a pleasure to meet you. I must say, you have quite a beautiful penthouse. Really puts mine back on Chandrila to shame.

Jin didn’t even have an apartment on Chandrila, but nobody needed know that. This was the point of politics. To act nice, to play nice, in order to ensure the continued stability and prosperity of his homeworld. Cutting deals with senators from across the aisle could prove useful—be it with Free Worlds or the Consortium—so long as Fondor stood to benefit. Forget the Republic. Jin was always out for his own skin.

After the Senate session, Sibyl had planned to return immediately to Brentaal. Now that Tristodd was coming back, she was going to fire the incompetents aides that she hired to replace him. The Brentaalan woman still couldn’t believe that he was coming back. Of course, she still hates the man, but now she understands that he is a competent idiot, who was necessary to maintain her office working perfectly.

When she received the invitation of Senator Graves to a party at his residence, Sibyl felt tempted to refuse. Among the several species of the Galaxy that she disliked, the Zeltrons were one of them. For the Governor, these pink-skinned aliens only had a good appearance, their brains were totally empty. More even than that of Emil Ro, if it was possible.

The rumors are probably true. Graves only had this position because he was the sugar baby of the Princess of Onderon. A Zeltron lacks the brain to be able to win a Senatorial election alone.

She arrived at Graves' penthouse and what she saw didn’t impress her. Even her bedroom on her estate on Brentaal was larger than this place. She regretted having come here with her new elegant dress, perhaps she should have used one more simple. If Graves is really the sugar baby of the Princess, Sibyl expected that he would live in a better place or at least would make a ball at the palace. Maybe the rumors are true, the Onderon Royal family went bankrupt.

Sibyl saw the Senator at the fireplace, with Jin Vaisra. She was surprised that Emil Ro wasn't present. Sibyl wondered if Jin had allowed his dog to wander through Onderon by himself. Knowing that Emil wasn't trained, the next thing that would appear in the tabloids is that he was found using a hydrant as a bathroom. Really, the Senator of Fondor needs to train his dog.

Taking a deep breath and putting a fake smile on his lips, Sibyl walked toward them. "Good night, gentleman!" she turned to the Zeltron "Senator Graves, it's a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for the invitation, your penthouse is beautiful!" This was a lie, the decor was hideous. Even a womp-rat's lair had more life than this hole.

"Jin, it’s wonderful to see you there!" she said to the Senator of Fondor. Only now she noticed the man's clothes. After her, he was probably the only other thing in this place with some sense of fashion. "I love your clothes." she said, being sincere.

A penthouse apartment on the walled city of Iziz was a sight to behold; it towered over the dense jungles of the planets lowlands, practically cleaving through the foggy clouds and underbrush. It was a keep with dominion over the entire world, an ever watchful eye. A perfect place for the planet's senator to arrive.

Such flagrant displays of wealth humbled Hergalor, a man of "modest" means from Taanab. The humble Ithorian made entered the penthouse alone, leaving his security detail at the door alongside their Onderonian equivalents. He opted for a simple robe pattern for this event, a step up from his workwear that he had worn to the Senate chambers. He had left early, hoping to get some quality time with his FWA colleague before the bulk of the party showed up. It was too late: The slime of Senate had already made its way to Onderon's heights.

He let out a sigh as he adjusted his translator underneath his robes. The Ithorian spotted Graves flanked by none other than Sibyl Lassiter and Jin Vaisra. Already, a headache set upon him; if he had to spend the whole night dealing with core worlder false niceties and passive aggression, he would burst a blood vessel. At least in the Free Worlds, you always knew where you stood with someone; once you started in these Senatorial gatherings, you were playing an 8-dimensional game of Shah-tezh when you were just trying to talk about the weather. It's why he had avoided them in the past.

"This is a nice place, Senator Graves!" Upon his announcement, one of the party's caterers quickly flanked him to offer a piping hot cup of tea. Hergalor was confused, at first, but quickly narrowed his eyes at the Zeltronian Senator. "Cassian, you old softie; you made this for me?" He reached into the folds of his robe to produce his two-pronged straw, after which he loudly slurped the tea.

"Senator Vaisra," he appraised his colleague. Well-dressed, handsome, dead look in his eyes; just like in Senate. "You look quite strapping in that sash. Almost makes me wish Belasi gave us a uniform." Almost. "And, Governor Lassiter. You look absolutely radiant, what a lovely dress that is."

No need to be hostile; it was a party, after all! Speaking of... "Graves, as much as I love the tea, I would appreciate something a little stronger after that session. What is it you Onderonians drink when you want to have a good time?"

Phineas was always one for socials and parties, even if it was just having a good conversation with someone on the streets of his home planet. The Senator loved to talk- sometimes too much like with what he did in the senate not too long ago. It ripped at his stomach and gave him butterflies just thinking about the crude words that whiplashed him back into his seat from the other senators. Somehow, or maybe Phineas was too busy freaking out, he didn't hear President Thorne say a word on the topic, something that felt like a dagger in his back. Maybe he was going to lose his job, reputation, and life all in one night.

Phineas shook that thought aside as he entered the building with his poker faced half-smile, dressed in a very nice emerald green velvet suit jacket, with jet black slacks and button up shirt. His tie was the same shade of green as his suit coat and he made the decision to place a small pin on it that read "VOX", the name of the great trading guild he grew up working for on Ord Mantell before he became a Senator.

It seemed Sibyl Lasseter, Senator Hergalor, and Jin Vaisra had already arrived before him, which was perfectly fine. It meant he'd have more options of people to talk to- mainly Hergalor, as Phineas found the Ithorian to be a lot more mature and reasonable than the other Senators Phin had met- like a bit father figure, almost. Maybe he could get some constructive criticism from him one day!

"Well, this place is very beautiful, isn't it? Not just the architecture, but the planet, herself." Phineas sighed happily as he approached the other senators. "Senator Graves, I think everyone can count on you to always look so exquisite." He complimented on the Zeltron's clothing, which was very expensive looking indeed. "Senator Lasseter, Senator Vaisra; you, too, both look ravishing this evening." He smiled at the both them, but Phineas found his eyes lingering on Senator Lasseter longer than he had intended, but he pulled them away to greet the Ithorian. Before he could say anything however, Hergalor had mentioned stronger drinks. "I agree with, Hergalor, here. Got any scotch lying around?" Phineas also desperately needed a drink to shake off the feelings of overwhelming regret that he couldn't seem to get rid of by other means.

It had taken a lot of convincing and creative bribing to get Emryc to show up for this. Despite being a galactic figure, by his very core nature Emryc was largely unsocial. He tolerated people for specific periods of time before he needed days to unwind in solitude. Jaikus was comfortable enough of a presence where Emryc could exist with the other man during that recharge time. However, his partner insisted they show up to the social. Not only that, but his aides began blowing him up about it too, especially as he had already brushed off the Onderon King’s invitation for some festival ceremony.

Jaikus had certainly earned some side eyeing from Emryc when he took absolutely no time to get ready for this compared to being snail for their date. It was the first time the ISC President had ever arrived anywhere with the plus one, and it was surely something that the older faces in the Senate would notice. It was a first for him, but he didn’t think twice about it. He knew he wanted this. Jaikus would see the night and day difference right away between how Emryc’s demeanor was when they were alone compared to social settings.

The half Sephi dressed in a suit with a long coat above it, pulling up in a speeder with Jaikus. He had a chrono on his wrist, his hair was arranged in a stylish quiff and, of course, he wore his trademark cologne. Emryc ducked slightly to make his way through the doorway before standing up to his full height.

Ever the gentleman, he helped shrug off his partner’s coat before taking off his own to hand both coats to an attendant. The half Sephi’s silver gaze panned across the apartment, silently appreciating the setting. As someone that still lived on his ship, Emryc wasn’t too fussed by the location of the social being in an apartment.

Instead of his usual MO of drinking by himself in a corner till being inevitably swarmed, he decided to actually be proactive this time. Emryc strode up towards where the group was gathering, nodding to them all politely, “Evening, gentlemen,” He said as he took in sight of each of them before turning to flash his infamously charming smile at Sibyl, “And my lady,” His gaze then lingered a bit longer on Hawthorne, not because of the man’s actions in the Senate chambers, but because of the odd color combination and material of his attire. In the end, Emryc simply gave him a polite nod before glancing over at Jaikus, affection bleeding into his eyes as a rare break from the frost everyone else knew from him, “This is my partner Altair Malik,” He would let Jaikus make his own introductions.

Emryc glanced over at Graves, his stoic frost and cool politeness returning, “Thank you for hosting, Senator Graves, though based on overhearing Senators Hergalor and Hawthorne, I must echo the desire for some fine whiskey,” He grinned at the Zeltron, "Fortunately, I'm in the habit of bringing gifts," With that he presented aged whiskey in a bottle lined with gems clearly from worlds obscure and far away, "Deucalian whiskey aged older than all of us here," He glanced at Hergalor and gave him a wink, "Except perhaps you, Senator," He looked at the whiskey, "Packs a punch and follows with the most exquisite burn. Anyone brave enough to try with me?" He grinned at them all.

Was that sincerity he’d detected in Sibyl’s voice? Jin was almost shocked. And here, he had thought the two of them had parted on bad terms. “Senator Lassiter, I’m glad to see you here too. I never got the chance to apologize for missing out on the opera you hosted last session, but I will say, you do look stunning this evening.” He offered a curt bow, perhaps more genuine than he would have liked.

Beyond the crowd of partygoers, he also noticed Senator Hawthorne making his way toward them, decked in an emerald suit. The slacks were a nice touch, but a green jacket and a green tie? He shuddered at the sight. At least Sibyl had kept her dress toned, silky, and with jewels encrusted on her cuffs and layered collar. Phineas looked cheap. Jin leaned over to the older woman and murmured under his breath, “Ah, here comes a leprechaun, trying to find himself a pot of gold.

Behind him, Venka elbowed his side. Jin immediately straightened up and smoothed his own suit jacket, offering Phineas a warm smile once he joined and complimented both Core World senators. “Thank you, Senator Hawthorne. I appreciate the sentiment. Your suit looks certainly… striking, as well.” Before an awkward silence could settle between them, however, President Thorne arrived, joining the group in a fine coat draped over a striped suit. His signature cologne made Jin’s nose wrinkle.

President Thorne, it’s an honor.” He gave a short nod to Emryc and his mysterious partner, staring at them curiously. He was not lost to the affection in their eyes. For some reason, Jin couldn’t help but wonder where Emil might be. Probably under a rock, he thought bitterly, and cleared his throat. “And Mister Malik—welcome to the Senate. Unfortunately, I’m afraid I have a weak stomach when it comes to Deucalian whiskey. Last thing I need is to end up drunk and retching over the balcony for the rest of the night.

His eyes flicked over to Sibyl. “Why don’t we find ourselves some wine to sip on instead, Senator Lassiter?” Jin offered his arm out for the woman to take, but if she looked at him more closely, she would find there was something else he wanted to discuss with her. Since she left the Republic, after all, they were long due for a talk.

The Senator of Fondor was the first to arrive, but that didn't surprise Cassian in the least. Core worlders were oh, so predictable. Located in the center of the galaxy, they expected to be the center of everyone's universe. It was no secret that there was no love lost between the New Republic and the FWA, and it was unlikely that that would change. The smile spread across Jin Vaisra's face was as artificial as the parks and manmade rivers scattered haphazardly across Fondor, and the flames that danced across his eyes reminded Cassian of a desperate cat leering in the darkness.

"The pleasure's all mine," Cassian lied, offering the senator a nod and Sybil Lassiter a respectful bow. "Your dress is beautiful, Senator Lassiter. Made all the more beautiful by your own loveliness." That wasn't a lie, but the face certainly didn't match the personality. Not only did she have the reputation of a incessant murmurer, but she lacked the resolve to see it through. When the going got rough in the New Republic, she jumped ship for the first shiny alternative. Not that Cassian could blame her. The ISC was preferable to the New Republic, but it did highlight the woman's feebleness of character.

At least Vaisra was loyal to a fault, ever the Chancellor's faithful lapdog. Or perhaps it was the other way around. Offering Sybil his arm, Vaisra appeared unfazed by the woman's betrayal. Apparently, Vaisra was done licking his wounds and ready make nice with the Senator of Brentaal. Either there was something he needed from her or he was a bigger fool than Cassian gave him credit for. For all of her beauty, the woman was not to be trusted.

Only too eager to turn his attention elsewhere, the Zeltron was greeted by Senator Hergalor and Senator Hawthorne. A genuine smile spread across his lips at the sight of them, and he greeted them with a firm handshake. At least he wasn't to be left to the company of core worlders. "Senator Hergalor, Senator Hawthorne, I'm so glad you both could make it." His blue eyes passed over both gentlemen, though it lingered on Hergalor the longest. Cassian had taken an instant liking to the Ithorian, and he wasn't eager to have his own reputation sullied by the Senator of Ord Mantell after that display in the senate chambers today.

His thoughts wandered to their Prime Minister after that, wondering if she would show up tonight or if she had tucked herself away in some hotel room from second hand embarrassment. He didn't envy her position, nor the scrutiny that came with it.

The unmistakable voice of Emryc Thorne pulled him from his thoughts, and Cassian turned to greet the ISC President. "President, Mr. Malik." He smiled at both men in turn. "Welcome. I hope you'll make yourselves at home." He flashed Senator Hergalor a bemused smile, adding, "I guess that answers your question."

Luckily, near-humans had no way of interpreting Ithorian body language. None could see the creeping boredom matched with sudden bouts of enthusiasm as different guests entered. Hawthorne's gauche outfit at least was unique; anyone could spend lavishly on a dress or be dressed by their mother. Their was a certain confidence it took to dress oddly on your own accord. A sparkly, green suit jacket with a matching tie - Hergalor had almost thought he was the help. When Vaisra peeled off, no love was lost; he hadn't even acknowledged Hergalor. If Hergalor were king of the Galaxy, it would be an offense punishable by death.

Emryc's entrance and banter lightened the mood. Hergalor shared a firm handshake and a respectful nod with Graves when offered as Thorne and his acquaintance made their approach. And, he had brought a gift; when did the Senate get filled by young, charming, handsome suitors? Did Hergalor sleep through the days when Senators and Advisors were stooges old enough to make Palpatine seem spry by comparison? "President Thorne." His translator captured the enthusiasm in his voice. "And Mr. Malik. It is a pleasure. Finally, someone from the real galaxy attends one of our dour affairs." He leaned conspiratorially to Altair. "It's usually as fun as a session in Senate." He winked, blissfully unaware that President Thorne's date was the same man he had ironed out an agreement with mere moments before the Senatorial gathering.. Not that he would have cared, of course.

As Vaisra pulled away, Hergalor's eyes were drawn to Thorne's quite expensive whiskey. A great start to the evening. "As the most senior member of Senate here presently, as President Thorne was so kind to remind me of, perhaps I can have the honor of pouring the first round." He took the presented bottle of Deucilian whiskey and poured out rounds into delicate, crystal glasses for the small group to enjoy. Each would have one, save Hergalor, who had poured two for himself. "First, an old Ithorian party trick."

He pulled off the translator around his mouths, gently resting it on the table as he grabbed the two glasses in either hand. He suddenly jerked both glasses into either side of his neck, the brown whiskey disappearing momentarily. He raised a finger, indicating that his trick was not just drinking two shots at once. From deep within his mouths, a deep, melodic sound emerged; something quite like a whale song, to those who would know it. As the sound stopped, dozens of tiny, whiskey-colored bubbled floated out of his mouths' many holes. Caught in the splendor of the rooms light, only momentarily, before Hergalor inhaled deeply to suck them back into his body. Didn't want to lose the drink, after all.

He reattached his translator without a sound.
"The real trick is, I get to drink twice as much as any of you without anyone complaining." Another wink for the Senators. "Now, let's liven up. This is a party! A round for the
crowd." He passed around glasses of whiskey to everyone else who was gathered around their little circle.

Jaikus couldn’t deny feeling particularly excited about attending this event, even if it had taken quite a bit of convincing get Emryc to agree – resorting to some particularly creative bribes and incentives to get the half-Sephi dressed and out the door. Unlike his partner, the Axxilan was a social creature by nature, and while he could spend all the time in the galaxy alone with his partner, this sounded like an event that would be legitimately enjoyable.

“It’ll be nice,” He had reminded his partner, utilizing that line multiple times as they got ready.

He was uncharacteristically swift getting prepared for the night, breaking from his usual tradition of taking a century to get dressed and out the door. The Axxilan couldn’t deny feeling a tad bit nervous, despite all of his excitement. This was the first time Emryc had shown up with anyone, and Jaikus knew that the eyes of the media would be on the both of them tonight. Nevertheless, it was something that Jaikus wanted to do without a second of hesitation. A few additionally minutes preening in front of the mirror, and they were out the door and into a speeder.

Naturally, Jaikus had donned his finest for the occasion. Beneath the long winter coat, he was dressed in a pair of black dress pants and a matching suit-jacket, alongside a tight-fitting white button-up underneath. His hair took on the naturally curly texture he was born with, while a pair of dark-framed dorky glasses rested on the bridge of his nose. The air around him ws mildly scented with his cologne, and as per usual, he accessorized the outfit with his gold bracelet and chrono combo - opting for a timepiece that matched the one that Emryc was wearing.

Jaikus couldn’t help but smile back at Emryc, shrugging off his coat for the half-Sephi to hand off to an attendant. Emerald eyes very briefly flicked across the penthouse, quietly picking out the faces of those who had already arrived. “Wait,” He placed a hand on Emryc’s shoulder, halting him in pause before the half-Sephi could begin making his way towards the crowd.

Without a word, Jaikus reached up and grasped the base of the half-Sephi’s expensive necktie, adjusting it ever-so-slightly. He paused just then, taking a minute to admire the man before giving smiling and giving a nod. “Dashing as always,” He muttered, repeated the same line from that party on Serenno. With that, Jaikus turned his attention back to the crowds – striding alongside his partner and finally joining the fray. Naturally, he kept his right arm hooked around Emryc’s as they walked together, while his left rested affectionately on the half-Sephi’s bicep.

He gave each of those assembled a polite nod of his head, “Senators Vaisra, Senator Graves, Senator Hergalor, a pleasure to meet you three.” Jaikus’ gaze then flicked to Senator Hawthorne the longest, his brow furrowed ever-so-slightly. He clearly remembered the Senator from his classless comments during the session, far more bitter about the entire ordeal than his partner was. “And you, Senator Hawthorne,” He spoke smoothly.

Jaikus couldn’t help the way his gaze briefly flicked down – taking in the sight of the man’s odd color-combination suit. Emerald briefly flicked back towards Emryc, giving his partner a look. While it was far too subtle for anyone else to notice, the half-Sephi would immediately be able to pick upon Jaikus’ silent judgement.

His gaze then flicked towards Sibyl, greeting the Brentaalan with a charming smile and bow of his head. “A pleasure to meet you as well, my lady. I must say, you look absolutely radiant tonight.”

Jaikus turned his attention back to Emryc, arching a brow slightly when the half-Sephi mentioned the Deucalian whiskey and if any of them were brave enough to give it a shot. “Absolutely not,” He quipped back, his voice light and playful. By now, the half-Sephi knew the Axxilan’s preference for the fancier, fruity beverages to know he had no interest.

Just his luck, Jaikus glanced to his left and reached out with his free hand just as an attendant passed by – swiping a brightly colored cocktail as the tray passed by. The drink was even topped off with a tiny little umbrella. He briefly glanced back to Emryc, giving the man a knowing little wink. “Much better.” With that, Jaikus turned his attention back to Cassian, tipping his glass towards the Zeltron. “Senator Graves, I must thank you for hosting this event. I am sure it will be a night to remember.”

It didn't take much convincing to get Korre to show up to a party. If an invite was sent, Korre would be there.

The Senate session today had been interesting, to say the least. Korre was very much glad it was over and that she could now destress at a fun little party. She took her time getting ready, replaying the events in her head as she applied makeup and pulled on her dress. If a Senate ever went by without her feeling the need to smack her palm into her forehead, she would be thankful. Korre didn't think too hard about earlier events though, Florin had taken notes, so she could go over everything in further detail at a later time. She didn't have the time or want to dwell on second-hand embarrassment.

When the woman entered the party, dressed in a curve-hugging gown, events were already underway. Senator Graves, Vaisra, Lassiter, Hergalor, and Hawthorne were already congregating around President Thorne and a man the Belascan woman did not recognize. Her blue eyes sparkled at the sight of whiskey, and the Free Worlds Prime Minister made her way over as soon as she removed her coat.

"Senator Graves, thank you for the invite," Korre smiled as she approached the pink-skinned host. Another smile, always characteristic of her, would be given to the ISC President--"Emryc"--and to the man beside him. He would receive a further introduction though, as she did not know him.

"Korre Belasi, Prime Minister. It's wonderful to make your acquaintance Mr...?" When the man gave her his name, she would smile once again. Her eyes then wandered across the room until she spotted Jin with Sibyl. She would make a point to speak with him tonight, even if they just exchanged pleasantries. It had been a while since the two had spoken.

Phineas took the drink in his hands and examined for a moment, he wasn't thinking about the drink, but message it would send if Phineas didn't drink it. First he unintentionally insulted the President of the ISC, and he couldn't bare to think of the potential newsletters concerning Phineas not accepting a drink from the President.

Good thing Phineas loved alcohol in all of it's shapes and forms. "Never had whiskey- let alone one such as this. Guess I'll give it a shot..." He said, acting as if he didn't know the pun he just made as he quickly downed the drink. It was so vibrant! The tang mixed with a sweet and bitter stone cold taste swarmed over his taste buds. This must have been how starships reacted to coaxium being injected into the engines!

"What a drink! Thank you, President Thorne." His smile was much more apologetic and sincere than his normal half-smile he used as a poker face to mask his true feelings. He really did feel quite terrible about his little incident, and his partner, Mr. Malik, made him feel even smaller than he did in the senate chambers. He could see the blistering anger the man felt for Phineas, even if it was subtle, Malik's warning did not go unnoticed- whatever the warning was.

Then, the Prime Minister had entered and Phin gave a short, subtle wave to her as a greeting. Phineas thought about his own apparel after looking at the remarkably dressed women before him, remembering the way Jin had stared at Phin's tie. Was it a little much? Maybe Phin should've just worn his black one- that probably would've matched better and looked a lot more stylish.

Phineas made a mental note to speak with Stayssi Vox concerning tailoring, as Stayssi always had a way with style- some in VOX-Mechanica argued he wore clothes better than the infamous Lando Calrissian. Even if it was just a bias opinion for their boss, he still had a greater understanding of how one should dress. Especially if it was for a Senator. Phin didn't have style, he'd admit, but Stayssi could fill in that particular gap, any time, any day, anywhere.

The Senator thought that maybe he'd look better without the green tie in general.

Emryc grinned when Hergalor immediately took him up on the offer. As the Ithorian gathered up the glasses, he turned his gaze to catch the arrival of the Prime Minister. The half Sephi gave her a rare, genuine smile. She was one of the exceptionally rare individuals Emryc genuinely liked and respected, “Korre,” He said, allowing his gaze to take in sight of her attire, “You ought to consider modeling for the Cosmos Digest,” It was perhaps the nerdiest science magazine out there, “Having someone as gorgeous as you on there would certainly increase its reader base,” He flashed her a grin before looking over to Jaikus. He waited till the Axxilan introduced himself before snaking an arm affectionately around his waist.

“Altair here is - what’s that nauseating phrase?- my significantly better half...even if he does have disappointing tastes in drinks,” Emryc’s gaze lingered on Jaikus’ eyes, looking exceptionally cheesy for a moment before he finally broke away to join Hergalor again. Korre knew Emryc long enough to pick up on how out of character it was for Emryc to behave this way around another individual. There was no doubt the half Sephi was completely smitten with his partner.

Emryc watched Hergalor’s party trick, clapping and chuckling at the end of it, “You mean to tell me that you had two mouths all along you could have used to tell Hawthorne here to shut his trap?” The half Sephi grinned, playfully clapping Hawthorne on the shoulder to make it clear there were no bad feelings. He took his glass and clinked it with Hawthorne’s in cheers before throwing it back. Emryc couldn't help but wince a little from the taste, but he gave a deep baritone growl at the end of it, “That’s what I’m talking about! Deucalian whiskey hits as hard as their hammers!”

The half Sephi’s gaze fixed back on the Ithorian as he went for a second round of shots to hand out to everyone, “A man after my own heart,” He grinned as he clinked the second glass with Hergalor’s, “I suspect our shared interests go beyond our drinking preferences.”

While Jin spoke, Sibyl wondered if he was being sincere. Like her, the Prince was good at faking and hiding his true intentions. Perhaps this was why they got so well to each other while she was still the Senator of Brentaal. A serpent can recognise another one. Even with him calling her Senator, the Brentaalan decided to ignore it “Thank you, Senator Vaisra! I need to say that I was sad for you not being here.” this was also true. Perhaps if Jin was there, she would not have died of boredom without no one to talk with. Since Ro also wasn’t there, she wondered if Vaisra was teaching him some tricks during the opera.

When she saw Senator Hergalor, Sibyl first thought that someone had let a beggar enter the place. The Ithorian looked like one, dressed in these robes that looked more like rags. He reminded her of Claudias, how the man would use some old sheets and call them traditional clothes. “Senator Hergalor, I say the same. You look splendid!

Then she saw Senator Hawthorne approaching. The man was probably dressed in the worst combination of clothes that she had ever seen. She smiled a bit at Jin's comment about the leprechaun. She wondered if the people of the FWA had no sense of fashion. Although Graves’ clothes weren’t bad. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Senator Hawthorne.” she said, giving a fake smile at the cosplay of leprechaun.

In Sibyl’s opinion the arrival of President Thorne probably would be the greatest event of the night. She was surprised for seeing him with a man, the Brentaalan was starting to believe that the tabloids were true and he was an asexual. When Emryc presented Altair Malik to them, the woman noticed the affection in his eyes.

President Thorne, it’s good to see you there.” then she turned to Altair. “Mr. Malik, it’s a pleasure to meet you! Your clothes are wonderful, they fit you perfectly.” and for the third time that night, Sibyl was sincere. Malik was among the few sentient beings at this place that had some sense of fashion. She wondered if he was the reason for Emryc dressing well most of the time.

When Thorne offered his Deucalian whiskey, Sibyl declined politely. It wasn’t her type of drink at all. She already had enough of a headache due to Hergalor's infernal robotic voice, she didn’t need more. Due to waiting to stay away from the Ithorian and his babling, Sibyl accepted Jin’s offer. She was also curious about what he wanted to talk about with her. Hopefully it wasn’t because he was needy without his dog being here.

Of course, Senator Vaisra. I would love some wine.” while they walked away, the Brentaalan noticed that Prime Minister Belasi had arrived. She was very well dressed. The Brentaalan woman never thought that people from a backwater planet like Belasco would have the taste for such dress.

Emil arrived fashionably late as usual. Only this time, his tardiness wasn't motivated by a disdain for public events, but rather confusion. The invitation had it taking place in an apartment. That couldn't be right. He had been to his fair share of seedy hotels over the duration of his political career. He had even found himself at a less than auspicious buffet once for a campaign event back on Balmorra. But he had never been invited to a party at an apartment building before, least of all after a meeting of the Galactic Senate.

Sure enough, once he reached the designated location and the door swished open, he found the room already crammed full of people. One of whom was the enormous Emryc Thorne. It was hard not to notice Emryc first. He was the tallest being in the room, except maybe the Ithorian sentor. Helgar. Hergathor? Helgalar? He couldn't remember his name despite all the speaking he'd done in the chamber earlier. Besides, Emil had been distracted anyways. What with the Jedi rooting around in his mind, causing an intergalactic incident that was already in the press if his aides were correct. Because of course it was.

There were other familiar faces, of course. Jin, looking like a porcelain doll you might find in one of those haunted thrift shops near the bottom levels of Coruscant. Phineas, a man he didn't know, but who looked like he was auditioning to be in a holofilm he'd once seen with the worst CGI green suit to ever grace holographic screens. Sybil. The traitorous crone. And then there was Prime Minister Belasi, who would once have been a welcome face to see. Denon had changed all that.

The Chancellor entered the room cautiously as if he were slipping in the back door at his own secondary school reunion. It was hard not to draw attention when you were the Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic, but Emil was shorter than most in the room and he had arrived at an auspicious moment. Most everyone was already drinking by the time he made his grand entrance. Maybe that would afford him a few moments to steel himself. Instead, he came in just as President Thorne was announcing his preference for Deucalian whiskey.

Fuck that sounded good right about now.

"I'll have a glass of that whiskey if there's any left," Emil said, awkwardly inserting himself into the circle of politicians that had accepted Emryc's offer. "I could use something strong enough to knock out at rancor after today's proceedings."

I hope you can forgive me for pulling you away from the party’s center. I know you love the spotlight. But I didn’t want to bog down the other’s fun with more political talk, especially after today’s session.” Jin halted by a small table arrayed with drinks and untouched bottles. Plucking the oldest he could find, he poured them both a glass of wine and offered one to Sibyl with a smile. “And while I could have scheduled a private meeting with you elsewhere, I’ve been busy lately and I thought now would be an opportune time to talk with you. I promise, I won’t hold you up for long.

And he wouldn’t. Jin only wanted to iron out some details with her, considering the shift in the political climate, what with the Republic ebbing into the Consortium. Times were changing, and Fondor needed to keep all doors open.

If I may, Senator La…” Jin paused, as if absorbing his own words. “Ah, I did it again. Sorry, Governor Lassiter. Old habits die hard. You see, I still have yet to become accustomed with your withdrawal from the Republic. It’s just so rare for a trade magnate like yourself to abandon the privileges of the Core in favor of the Outer Rim. I’m honestly quite curious. What did the Consortium offer you for your loyalty?” His gaze raked over Sibyl’s outfit. “A better fashion designer?

His lip curled. Jin knew he was being too catty with her despite their previously warm relationship, but he couldn’t resist throwing in a few jabs, even knowing she would probably throw a few back. “I’m only kidding. Mostly. I’m not really concerned with how or why you left the Republic. The reason I wanted to speak with you was to discuss a certain ‘pact’ we made back on Brentaal—back when I could still trust you.

Jin took a sip of his wine. His voice dipped an octave, taking on a colder tone Sibyl might have already been familiar to. “I’ll be blunt so we might return to drinking our guts out—but I want assurances that you won’t fuck up my economy with this new ‘turning point’ of yours.

Jaikus grinned, emerald eyes fixating back onto Sibyl. “You are too kind, Governor Lassiter,” He tipped his glass towards the Brentaalan. “Your dress is equally stunning – perfect for the loveliest woman in the Core.”

His attention was briefly drawn away by the arrival of the FWA Prime Minister, greeting the woman with a respectful dip of his head. While he maintained a smooth exterior, he couldn’t deny feeling somewhat caught off-guard by the entire situation. Jaikus was someone who kept a low profile by his very nature, and interacting so casually with some of the most important people in the galaxy was something he likely would never get used to.

“Professor Altair Malik,” He responded smoothly, dipping his head towards Korre. “It is honor to make your acquaintance, Madam Prime Minister.” He gestured to Emryc when the half-Sephi made his compliments towards the woman, not missing the usage of first names. “Agreed. You look absolutely stunning.”

Emerald eyes went a bit wide when Emryc suddenly snaked an arm around his waist. He couldn’t help but smile warmly just then, an unmistakable flush of red spreading across his cheeks when the half-Sephi spoke. The Axxilan opened his mouth to speak, though the words seemed to catch in his throat for a few moments – left entirely flustered.

After a few moments, Jaikus finally cleared his throat and glanced back towards Emryc affectionately. “My loving partner here is simply disappointed his Deucalian whiskey doesn’t come with one of these fancy little umbrellas.” He quipped playfully, making clear reference to that incident back on Tattooine.

He then turned back to the Ithorian, watching with clear amusement Hergalor demonstrated his little party trick with the whiskey for those assembled. He clapped lightly when the Ithorian ended his demonstration, tipping his glass towards the man. “Quite a useful trick,” He quipped, playfully referencing Hergalor’s ability to drink twice as much as the rest. “One I am sure it comes quite in handy after long senate sessions."

Naturally, Jaikus glanced back when the newest member of their group entered – emerald eyes fixating onto the Chancellor. Jaikus greeted the man with a smile, dipping his head lightly towards him. “Then you’ve come to the right place,” He gestured back to the whiskey Emryc was hauling. He proceeded to extend a hand towards Emil to shake. “Professor Altair Malik. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

The middle-aged Ithorian was the last person in the room Cassian would have pegged to be the life of the party, but there he was performing party tricks and making everyone laugh. There was more to the old saying don't judge a book by its cover than just an overused cliché. Cassian laughed along with the others, clapping.

His eyes drifted toward Sybil Lassiter and he reconsidered. Well, perhaps Hergalor was not the last person to be the life of the party. That woman had the personality of a wet cardboard box, and she had the manners of a Hutt in a ladies' boudoir. The Brentaalan hadn't even bothered to thank Cassian for the compliment he had paid her, and it was actually sincere. Were his pheromones wearing off? No, not possible.

"You're most welcome," he said with a winsome smile, first to the bespectacled Malik and then to the Prime Minister herself. She had opted to come, after all. It never hurt to have more Free Worlds Alliance members in the mix, especially when there were snakes like Vaisra slithering about leaving his slime all over the furniture.

"Prime Minister," he added as a greeting, offering her a small bow out of respect. "I'm so glad you were able to come. You look absolutely stunning." The Belascan Prime Minister was certainly easier on the eyes than her predecessor, Naeva Rue.

The Zeltron's gaze wandered toward the latest guest to arrive, the Supreme Chancellor himself. No doubt all eyes present would drift toward him. He was, in a way, the man of the hour.

Cassian sighed deep within himself, loathe to speak to the totalitarian. Time to be a good host. "Good evening, Chancellor, and welcome."

Emryc returned her smile and suggested she try modeling for Cosmos Digest. Her eyebrows raised at the comment and a look of surprise twinkled in her blue eyes. Never once had Korre considered modeling. The Belascan native was no stranger to compliments on her appearance, but this was the first time someone had suggested she try modeling. 'It would be pretty cool to see myself on the cover when I get my monthly subscription.' She could definitely see the issue being titled around her Prime Ministry and her scientific research. "Perhaps I'll consider it if they ever ask," Korre responded with a light-hearted chuckle.

Her attention was then drawn to Emryc's plus-one, who named himself as Professor Altair Malik. "A professor?" Korre's pleasant surprise was not hidden at all. There was a twinkle in her eyes that was unmistakably that of sudden interest.

Korre diverted her attention for just a moment to respond to Graves, who responded to her greeting and complimented her as well. "Thank you, Senator Graves," she responded with a warm smile. The candy-colored man wasn't bad on the eyes either, but it wasn't something that Korre would comment on.

The New Republic Chancellor made his appearance but despite their damaged relationship, he would see no change in the friendly woman's demeanor as she smiled and nodded in his direction. "Chancellor, welcome." He asked for a glass of whiskey, which inspired Korre to ask for the same. "I will also take a glass, if possible." The ginger-haired woman then turned her azure gaze back to Malik, a glass of whiskey now hopefully in her hand.

"So, Mr. Malik, what sort of professor are you? I consider myself an educated woman, so I must ask to sate my own curiosities." She said this with a light chuckle, but he had her full attention. Quietly, she hoped it was scientific, but if she had to guess she would guess some sort of history. Emryc, to her knowledge, was very much into the subject, so it would make sense for his significant other to be so as well.

As the party continued to liven, Hergalor took the opportunity to shrink back from the conversation. However, more VIPs kept showing up - with the arrival of Belasi and Ro, that meant all three heads of state of the Galactic Senate had arrived. And they wanted a drink. Hergalor would oblige - filling both the Prime Minister's and Supreme Chancellor's glasses with the Ithorian equivalent of a smile. His gaze softened as he glanced towards Senator Hawthorne. A freshman senator, eviscerated in the floors of the Senate. Not without reason, of course, but...he had been there. He had been young, once. He hoped the man wouldn't do anything to drastic - everyone has a bad day in Senate, every now and then.

"Hawthorne's got a mouth that only an Ord Mantellian could. Fires from the hip. Like your constituents, eh?" He patted the younger man; it had been a long day. Hergalor wouldn't add to his troubles.

Hergalor turned to Thorne, locking eyes with the clinking of glasses. "Ah, I'm just a washed up fisherman. When I see a bottle of booze I can't afford, I'm obligated to drink it." Something like that. Hergalor gestured a robed hand to a quieter corner of the room. "Perhaps I can steal you away for a drink, President Thorne?" He quickly grabbed the bottle of whiskey as he started to walk; it was the President's after all. No reason for the commoners to be drinking it without him.

As they stood in a relatively quieter corner of the penthouse, Hergalor let out a deep, mechanical chuckle. "This is a rare honor, President Thorne. You know, I think my daughter is a member of your fan club." He produced his dataphone from the folds of his robe. "Would you mind if we took a picture together? She'll be so jealous that her lame ol' pops got to meet the Emryc Thorne." The chuckle returned - the natural boom of Ithorian voice mixed with the low, metallic sound of a translator. They were getting better at conveying emotion, sure, but still...it was lacking.

"I must say, I'm more than curious to hear what our shared tastes are." He swirled his glass. "Besides this fine whiskey, of course."
