This space will be used to generate the player run house we create and then to store information (status, resources, history, NPC members, etc) on our House, followed by our Character Sheets. We'll also store information on important NPC's events, and rival or allied Houses we create.

Myself or @Nefieslab will be keeping this opening post up to date as we progress. Please do not post here without permission.

Our General OOC/Interest check thread is located here.

House Ironbane of the Rills
Realm: The North
Liege: The Starks

Defense: Castle [Name] sits upon a high stoney hill overlooking the mouth of the Rillwater, where it spills into the Salt Spear. While some regard it as a miserable and drafty old fort, it's twin towers, sizable keep, and salt stained curtain walls (which encompass one of the southernmost Godswoods in the North) have guarded the river from ironborn raiders for centuries. The Salt Spear Tower, a lonely spindle of fortification, crumbling and dilapidated but still formidable, sits upon the opposite bank of the River. (Small Castle, Tower)(40)

Influence: Despite their modest holdings in modern times, House Ironbane is among the oldest Houses in the North, dating back to the arrival of the first men, and have a long and storied history akin to the Starks themselves. Among Northern Lords they command a respect, and are considered contenders for Guardians of the Rills if their houses current fortunes were to improve. (41)

Land: House Ironbane controls both shores of the mouth of the Rillwater River for a league wide and a league deep. The muddy wetlands of the rivers delta and the stony hills of the Rills beyond it offer little in the way of comfort for smallfolk, who mostly settle along the coast, and make patrolling and tending the land difficult. (2 Coastal Hills with a small town,1 Wetland) (43)

Law: Iron Born raiders plague the shores of the hold, pillaging and raping as they go. Bandits scour the hills for unwary travelers, and the rough terrain makes enforcing the rule of law a difficult prospect. (7)

Population: The bulk of House Ironbane's smallfolk occupy the small town of Rillwater Port, which serves traffic upon the Rillwater and traders who don't want to brave the length of the Salt Spear. Fishing combines and tiny bands of sheep herders smaller than hamlets dot the coast and hills. (19)

Power: While poorly funded and small, House Ironbanes forces are trained veterans of the recent rebellions. (1 trained Warship unit, 1 trained Archer unit, 1 trained Garrison)(21)

Wealth: Most of House Ironbane's meager income goes to maintaining its forces and it's single small town, leaving little for excess while the hold struggles to rebuild from the Greyjoy Rebellion. The family has become accustomed to austere living, at least by noble standards. (Godswood) (11)

Ser Drake Ironbane
bmucDCF.png

Bio
Ser Drake Ironbane, fifth of his name, Knight of the Saltspear and heir to House Ironbane, is the eldest child of Lord [Name] and Lady [Name]. Ser Drake was raised from an early age to prepare him for Lordship of his family's hold in the Rills. Already a young man when Ned Stark called the North's banners to join Robert's Rebellion, the young Lord was sent to squire for a Knight of House Vance of Atranta in an effort to strengthen the Norths new ties to the Riverlands. He went on to serve in the rear guard at the battle of the Trident, but saw no real action there. Years later, as his families lands were ravaged by Iron Born raiders emboldened by the Greyjoy Rebellion, Drake joined his master at the Siege of Pyke, and followed the likes of Ser Jorah Mormont and the Red Priest Thoros of Myr through the breach alongside Knights from across the Kingdoms. Ser Drake was one of the many Knighted by King Robert himself after the battle. [WIP]

Dragnal Far Shot
4E3g0cG.jpg
Bio
Dragnal Far Shot was a leader of men before the Greyjoy Rebellion and during the Rebellion he was the leader of even more men. He was given two ships and sent to raid the lands belonging to House Ironbane as his ancestors had done before him. During his first raid there, Lord [NAME] killed Dragnal's only son, a man slightly older than Drake Ironbane.

Retreating in disgrace, he cursed the family as a whole but he was unable to return in time to participate in the siege of Pyke, where his only grandson was living while he was out raiding. The boy was only three and ten but he was put to the sword regardless. When he was admitted to the castle after the Rebellion was over, Balon Greyjoy himself told him that his grandson had been stabbed through the gut and left to die from the painful, dirty, gut wound by Drake Ironbane.

He has never cared about how truthful this report actually is; it is more than reason enough to form a burning desire to see Lord [NAME] suffer as he has, through the death of a son.

Ser Aelos of the Saltpans

Ser-Aelos.png

Sigil is a white fish crossed with a white sword on red.

Bio
Aelos was born in Saltpans as the fifth child and expected to spend his life fishing the rivers until the day he croaked. Aelos was of a different mind and joined the local lord's troops when he was thirteen. It was a remarkable move, but with four older brothers and a father still able of body there was one person too many to fit in their small boat. Truthfully, his family was happy to be rid of them. His mother had two more sons before she died in a miscarriage.

Meanwhile Aelos trained with shield and longsword for years until the local lord decided to join the tourney of Harrenhal. Aelos, like all men present except for drunk Robert, was already a grown man and fell in love with Ashara Dayne and greatly admired her brother in the Kingsguard, but when the young man told his friends about his aspirations to become a knight and marry Ashara Dayne they all laughed at him. Smallfolk had no place among knights and their beautiful sisters.

A year later Lord Cox, who owned the castle in the Saltpans, swore allegiance to the Targaryens instead of house Tully and Aelos marches with Jon Connington to Stoney Sept. In the ensuing Battle of the Bells, Aelos slew both rivermen and northmen, but found the latter to strike harder and take more cuts to down. Upon their retreat and subsequent scattering of Connington's remaining forces, Aelos tried to return to the Saltpans but was eventually rallied by Ser Barristan Selmy, a Kingsguard like Arthur Dayne and thus one Aelos greatly admired, to fight at the Battle of the Trident.

At that battle Aelos lost most of his friends and killed more Tully men that he would ever be able to forgive himself for, but he survived with only superficial wounds of his own. In the aftermath he learned that Lord Cox had perished at Stoney Sept and his son had quickly made peace with Lord Tully and the new King, Robert Baratheon. Of the few men sworn to House Cox that survived the battle of the trident, only one was a knight and he over a considerable amount of wine he knighted Aelos for his valor on the field of battle and apparently saving his life, although Aelos didn't remember seeing the knight's face on the battlefield at all.

The new lord was eager to show his loyalty to Robert and thus attended the tourney to celebrate the King's wedding to Cersei Lannister, with the newly knighted Ser Aelos as one of few knights to participate in the melee for House Cox. Unfortunately, just when Aelos thought he was about to receive favor for reaching the finals, he was recognized as having slain a cousin of Lord Errol and pulls out of the melee in shame. Peaceful years follow and with the Saltpans too small a settlement to be able to support a standing army, Aelos was thanked but send off to once again to find someone else to pay the amount of stags befitting a knight.

Unwilling to live by anything than the sword, Aelos considered leaving for Essos but decides to wander the Westerlands in search for a wealthy lord to swear fealty to. He avoids the riverlands out of shame and guilt, choosing the Westerlands hedges to sleep under. Four years he wandered without finding any lord of landed knight to want or need his sword, forcing Aelos to live off whatever he managed to fish or hunt. He was at Lannisport when Victarion Greyjoy burned down the Lannister fleet and was paid handsomely by the latter house to join the Siege of Pyke where he fought side-by-side with the men stood against seven years earlier. Ofcourse, as any Hedge Knight's fate, he was quickly cast aside after Balon took the knee and had to sleep under hedges again.

Going north when he heard that the Ironborn kept raiding regardless of the kneeling squib, Aelos found fellow veterans of the Siege of Pyke among House Ironbane. Upon learning of their difficulties dealing with bandits and Ironborn reavers, Aelos pledged his sword to them for nothing more than a roof over his head and full belly once in a while.

Ryden Snow

Bio

Ryden Snow was the bastard son of Lord (Name) of House Ironbane, and—as is common—a stain upon the name of the family. He was the result of an Ironbane raid on an ironborn village, and his mother was left pregnant by her father in the aftermath of the battle. He was brought to Castle (Name) by her when he was 2 years old, and his father—not wanting to cause a scandal—quietly took the child in, though his mother was turned away. Not only was he a bastard, but he was the youngest son; his very existence was unknown to some because of how well his father managed to hide him in the shadows. He only rose to public spotlight at 14 years old, when he was kidnapped by pillagers on the outskirts of the kingdom while delivering supplies to a local farmstead—one of the few males who had the privilege. The rest were executed, the pirates leaving behind one man and one woman in the small village so that they may rebuild and give them something else to pillage in a few months. Raids were common and not surprising—Ryden had just gotten unlucky. Unbeknownst to him, however, was the reason he had been spared by the pillagers—they were part of a band of raiders that had suffered during the Ironbane attack on their village and had taken to living a more nomadic lifestyle, pillaging farmsteads to get by. They knew who he was and who his mother was, even though his own House did not.

No one truly knows what those Ironborn bastards did to Ryden Snow. He never talked about it to anyone that asked, not even to let them know how he found his way out, returning to Castle (Name) a few weeks after having gone missing. In that time, not as much as a search party had been sent; his father had presumed the boy was dead and rejoiced—the bastard was gone. However, Ryden came back. Though he was once a symbol of shame for House Ironbane—as are all bastards—he became a symbol of hope for many, and tales of his antics spread throughout the Seven Kingdoms. Rumors began spreading—that he had killed an entire camp of ironborn to escape, or that he had sneaked around at night and set fire to it before he left, though Ryden didn’t confirm nor deny any of the tall tales. He began turning heads on the street; he was now the Bastard of Ironbane, a nickname that grew to have positive connotations for all but his own father, who still wishes the boy had died during the raid.

What truly happened, however, but Ryden chose to hide was similar to the tales, though perhaps a bit more dramatic. The ironborn had sat him down and told him of his heritage—that he was, by blood, part ironborn, and that his mother had not had a choice in carrying the child. Refusing to believe it and writing it down as barbarian lies, Ryden slaughtered his two guards and stole a horse, taking off into the night.

When the Greyjoy Rebellion broke out, he was 16 years old—not quite an adult, but old enough to fight. Against his father’s wishes, he sneaked out and took part in the fighting at the Siege of Pyke alongside his older brothers, slaying ironborn with the passion of revenge burning within him. Ryden proudly bathed in Greyjoy blood that day, but remains thirsty for more.

Jorund Ironbane

dc270cb2a22fbff7c305cc4654137d4d.jpg

Bio

Born the second son and fated to live in the shadow of first his brother (current Lord name) and then the Wall as a sworn-man of the Night's Watch, Jorund Ironbane grew tall and prideful, with aspirations that soared even taller. Second sons of House Ironbane had manned the Wall for as long as there had been a Wall, and Jorund was raised with the expectation that he would live and die at that sacred post. He was trained to fight with sword and spear, how to track and hunt, and how to sail; all so that when he took his vows he would bring honor to the Ironbane name as one of the ‘shields that guard the realms of Men.’ He hated those words, hated the smug look on his brother's face as he and Father fielded betrothal requests and worked to restore their land.

At the age of five and ten - on the very night he was meant to join the Wandering Crow and his party of rapists and thieves on their journey to the Wall - Jorund donned simple armor of studded leather, claimed a sword and his Weirwood bow from the armory, and stole a pair of gold dragons from the treasury before boarding a Manderly cog bound for the city of Braavos. There he became a sellsword and joined the Company of the Rose where his talents both as a scout and a warrior earned him acclaim and riches beyond anything he'd ever dreamed. Jorund drank the finest wines, layed with beautiful women, and earned glory for himself fighting in the Disputed Lands.

His contact with home was minimal, short letters scrawled and sent along with a portion of his earnings letting them know he was still alive. Disturbing rumors of the happenings at Harrenhal reached Braavos at the same time as a letter from his brother, now Lord of the Rillwater, calling him home. Trouble was brewing in the South, and the North needed loyal sons for the wars to come. He arrived in time for Ned Stark to call the banners and joined his brother and nephew on the road South.

There was a moment during the Battle at the Trident when a Dornish spear took his brother's horse in the neck and he was thrown to the blood-soaked bank, and Jorund knew then that all he'd have to do is turn away and all the slights of youth would be erased; that the Lordship of the Rillwater could fall to him. Choking on bile at the wave of temptation that washed over him, he pierced the Dornishman's heart with his spear and pulled his wounded brother to his feet.

After the Rebellion ended and the Northmen turned back to the Neck, Jorund swore his sword to his elder brother and became Master-at-Arms of the Castle. To this day he is haunted by the ambition that nearly took him on the Trident and has resolved to serve his ailing brother faithfully.
