Okay so trying to out-run some local law enforcement in a stolen freighter was a bad idea usually. It had been his only option and it was still the worst option, somehow, because it had resulted in his current problem; namely that he was stuck on some swamp of a planet he hadn't ever actually heard of before. But then again this was the first time he'd made a blind jump in a freighter that had been in desperate need of repairs before he even set foot in the craft.

It was a miracle he had survived the jump, let alone re-entry.

Still, watching the remains of the ship burn brightly in the night wasn't what he wanted to be spending his time on. He'd really prefer if the ship, shite as it was, had survived but oh well. Instead he just sat with his back against a tree, a cigarette in hand, watching it burn away. It was, as far as he knew, the only ship on the planet and it was beyond saving.

He wasn't usually one for moping but the situation seemed to suit it, so he just sat there and smoked. Tacitus could already hear creatures of the bloody swamp making noises around the area and he knew, instinctively, that at least some of them were likely to want to try and eat him. Hence why, in his other hand, he had his vibroknife.

Just cus he was having a bit of a mope, didn't mean he wanted to die.

So, coming here was a big mistake.

First of all, when you make a pilgrimage, you park in a place that's discreet, right? A place that was kind of hidden away from other possible hostiles, where you can sit back and just absorb in the Force... right? So imagine his surprise, and subdued disappointment, when his ship's landing gear began sucking down into thick, gooey mud.

He just got it washed, too. The dockmaster was just going to give him hell, he just knew it.

Well, at least he had his pack on him. Sighing, he shrugged on his jacket and the bag, and just started jogging out. After all, standing in one place didn't seem the wisest... and he could swear there was another presence close by. Through the thick, muggy atmosphere, even, there was a scent of... of...

He paused, sniffing, then sighed.

Was that cigara smoke? Only one way to find out.

One thing he did not expect to see wading through the thick, swampy, mud towards him was another human.

He would have made the effort to wave at the newcomer had he not been busy. Unfortunately for Tacitus, the new guy wasn't the first living creature to try and come up to him because he'd been beaten to the punch by... a mass of tentacles that seemed insistent that Tacitus needed to see what life was like as a swamp-water bloated corpse.

Feck that idea.

Pulling his left arm back, he pulled some of the restricting tentacles taunt before slashing at them with the vibroknife in his right hand. He cut through a couple of them but some of them managed to survive. The creature instinctively went to retract it's remaining tentacles but Tacitus had to say it hadn't been gentle when it had gripped him before.

So he wasn't going to let that just be it.

"Oh no you don't!"
he growled, "Get your arse back here - I'm gonna see what colour your insides are you wretched piece of filth!"

He started pulling, dragging the creature up through the swamp water by the tentacles that had tried to escape.

"Bet you'll fry up real good!"

So there was another person there! He hadn't been in a lucid dream... although if this was a Force vision, it could have done a little better than show a vision of a wild man struggling with... with... a tentacle thing? For a moment, he simply stared as the man went from being grappled with the slimy thing to dragging it out of the water.

Well, his master always taught him to help a man when he was in need, and his mother taught him to never stop when it came to down and dirty in a fight. Pulling Bita free from its' sheath by his side, he charged forwards, the blade held at an angle, lowered, intending to bisect the creature where it would come closer to the surface.

He had to suppress a cringe at the man's vernacular though. Fry this beast, really? What kind of wild man was this?

"Not from here, I guess," he rumbled good-naturedly in an attempt for levity, waiting for a chance to strike. "Pretty sure these things aren't..." he paused, waiting.

A bubbling here, an eye there. Lunging, the sword hummed to life as he neatly jabbed, and heard a watery approximation for what he guessed was a howl of pain. He just had to get a better jab to end the creature's torment.

"...the most edible," he finally muttered, mostly to himself.

Yeah... this thing wasn't the best eating, but perhaps the man wasn't domesticated?

Tacitus wasn't really a big fan of calamari - he'd had a friend once who had hailed from Mon Cala and it always felt kind of wrong to eat squid after meeting the guy. Sure, the dude ate seafood himself but it still felt kind of off. But he wasn't going to let a little something like 'taste' get in the way of him literally eating a creature to have his revenge on it for attempting to eat him in turn. It was too poetic not to do it and he was far too angry at the stupid thing to just let it have an easy death.

Oh there was someone giving him a hand?

Made a change.

"I don't really much care!" he grunted out with a scowl, "It's the principle of the thing, ya hear? It tried to eat me so I'm going to take out the fact that I've had a really shitty day on it. Acceptable targets and all that!"

He pulled.

He really pulled for all he was worth and he could feel the way the creature squirmed and writhed in his grip that both he and the fecking thing knew that he was close to pulling it free from the water. And once it was free from the water? It would be on his knife and bleeding out it's lifeblood within moments!

"Pull already!"

It was mildly amusing to see this man be so intent on his mission of revenge completely forget there were so many other things keen to eat them. But for now there was no other immediate danger; the man did have a point, and the thing was injured enough that letting it live was a greater burden than killing it swiftly.

Pull already? Who was he talking to?

He gave the man a puzzled expression... and then it dinged to life.

Oh. Him.

Oh. Him.

Resheathing his vibrosword, he lunged forwards and wrapped a hand around other lashing tentacles. They were slimy, slippery, and more than once he nearly lost his grip as he helped the other man pull. Grunting, straining against slapping tentacles and slime, he could feel it start to lose the fight, come closer to the edge and its' movements take on an even more frenzied pace.

And that's when something bigger came along.

It was like a large, black fin, ghosting out of the water, and then a flash of slimy grey teeth as they snapped over the octopus-like creature. On one hand, it was all well and good, the thing would no longer suffer. On the other, it was awful.

The sudden snap caused him to lurch precariously close to the water. Who knew what else was there. Just barely, he managed to balance and pull himself back. Hopefully his companion served better.

It honestly surprised him that it took the new guy so long to get on board with the idea of pulling the creature to the shore so they could end it's life. Only as he was heaving it onto the dry(er) land did he make a few observations that left him wanting to groan in despair, swear and roll his eyes all at the same time. Because, of course, the man was a Jedi.

The hippies of the Force.

Seeing the fin arriving, Tacitus had to make a decision he wasn't sure about. If he let the creature go now, it was bound to try and escape the other fish. But if he held on a little longer... well the answer was that he damned near went into the drink with it as the other fish-thing savagely attacked it. Managing to let go just in time, he threw out an arm to keep the new guy from falling in either.

With the two of them regaining their balance, he sighed a little bit before wandering back over to the tree he had been leaning against. Sitting down again, he eyed his burning ship in the distance for a few moments before turning back to the guy again.

"Alright - I'll bite."

He drew a cigarette from the case he kept on his person at all times and lit it with a light he'd stolen from some mom & pop store a couple of planets over. Smoking calmed the nerves.

"What's a Jedi doing in a dump like this? Ain't no kids for you to abduct here."

He had leaned back on his heels, contemplating something--what was it again? Something about life, perhaps. But the wild man spoke, and he turned, tilting his head to listen. At the words, he smirked, slowly meandering over. "Who said I was a Jedi?" he rumbled, eyeing the man with a smirk.

"Just because a man can swing a sword? Rather strange deduction there, mister...?" he stopped and eyed the other man, then the smoke. But it hardly mattered. The guy was in the same proverbial boat as he was... at least until he somehow pulled free his own ship.

Tacitus gave the man a look for a moment before deciding it was probably best to be honest. They were on a planet that only had the two of them actually speaking Basic. As far as he knew, the guy had a working ship he could use to get the hell off the mud-ball of a planet. All he’d need to do is get him onside enough to not take issue with him.

Tricky considering he was a criminal and semi-known murderer.

Though thankfully the people he murdered tended to be even worse than he was - tend to keep the fuzz looking the other way so long as he was cleaning up the area as it were. As for the Jedi comment? He smirked ever so slightly.

“I could feed you a line about knowing what a Jedi feels like or some such shite but…” he gestured to the other man’s belt, “I caught a glance at your saber when we were tussling with the tentacle monster back there.”

He shrugged.

“And a Sith would have probably just watched and laughed.”

Bjorn rocked back on his heels, eyeing the man. "You sound like you've met a few," he commented placidly, hands on his hips. "But looking at another man's belt line? Some might take offense at that." Speaking of... he glanced around, then sniffed.

"So... don't suppose you have a way off this planet, do you?" he asked, but guessing by the burning remains littering the atmosphere likely not. However, he wasn't worried about it. He would figure a way out of here.

Had he met a few?

Nope, not even close.

But he had been banging one of their mortal enemies for the past few months and he'd listened to her having her little complaints about them from time to time. Plus there had been that time he'd helped a recently 'defected' Jedi escape from some of the Rangers and bounty hunters.

Huh.

Maybe he had, technically, met a few.

"Some."
he admitted with a shrug, eyeing the man with a small smirk, "And I'm sure some would find themselves flattered - and I wouldn't dare to assume which category you might fall into my friend."

Cost nothing to flirt and hope it earned him some goodwill to better aid him in his escape negotiations. Of course when the man asked him if he had a way off planet, he winced a little bit. He really hoped he was asking to be nice and offer assistance rather than to admit he was in the same boat.

He nodded to the burning remains.

"Nope - that was my way here and it was supposed to be my way back as well."
he eyed the man out of the corner of his eye, "Don't suppose you have any duct tape?"

A wink was all that was spared in response to the flirtation, before squaring his shoulders to stare at the swamp waters. "Well, that aside, this is the worst batch of luck. Mine's a little stuck, and unless you've got some skills with mud," he shrugged once, "I'll just be taking a bit of a walk; company wouldn't be bad, though, if you don't mind being attacked by things other than bigger fish."

He chuckled once, then hefted his bag once more. He would linger and chat, but... something dark lingered within these twisted wilds, something that called him from within. He couldn't quite explain it... only that he had to travel deeper inwards.

Without another word he looped the bag over one shoulder and vaulted over high, gnarly roots, deeper into the grim drabness of this jungle planet.

So the guy did have a ride but it was stuck? Eh that didn't seem to be too big of a problem even for him and he was just a normie compared to all these Force Sensitive types. He'd learned a bit from Bri about what it meant when you could use the Force and he figured that this guy knew he could free his ship on his own.

But he was choosing not to, for now.

Instead he shrugged his shoulders and started walking alongside the Jedi. There was nothing to do but wait and even if he knifed the Jedi in the kidney and left him for dead, he had no idea where the Jedi's ship was. And it might need the Force to actually get it free so... wandering around with the guy it was.

"I thought you Force types could lift things with your mind?"

He wiggled his fingers.

"What's the matter, beaten by a bit of mud?"

He wasn't moving at a leisurely place, so when the guy decided to follow he was more than a little surprised. However, the surprise melted to bemusement at the man's quip, dodging a low-hanging branch and vaulting over things one-handed, spry and focused on each step, mindful of the living things that scurried or scampered in the dark.

"Some can," he rumbled out, glancing over a shoulder. "Some can't do it as well as others. I probably could, but it's not just mud," he responded easily, ducking another vine that swung wetly in the humidity. Even though he had only been out here a short amount of time, sweat was beginning to bead on his forehead.

"Why, offering to help a stranger?" he shot back with a wry grin, and an arched brow. "Not out of the goodness of your heart, surely."

He was teasing, but also trying to focus on the point of this darkness he could feel; the closer they came, the more silent things seemed. The deeper the stillness. Something waited beyond.

What the hell was that load of bantha crap?

The dude was acting like a swamp was a parkour set up and he was giving him some line about how only some Jedi were able to lift ships out of mud? Sounded like a lot of old shite to him but he wasn't going to say it aloud for now. Again, the dude needed to like him well enough to get him off the planet.

"Uhuh - I'm sure there's some other swamp squid hugging it's engines."

He had meant it as a joke, honestly, but the more time he spent here the more he was beginning to think that it was probably the case. Everything here seemed to have evolved to be annoying as all hell. Probably hadn't but he was allowed to exaggerate from time to time. Tacitus raised an eyebrow.

"I mean... yeah."

He had thought that was kind of obvious.

"I'm kind of stuck here on this planet without a ship that isn't on fire. So if I help you out, I'm looking for a ride off this wet-armpit of a planet to the next planet that'll have a spaceport."

Where he was steal a ship rather than pay for transport onward but he didn't think telling a goody-goody like a Jedi he was going to break the law was a good move.
