Arno Coates was born on Serenno, 4th out of 7 children to his parents Bazz and Malda. After his triplet sisters were born, his mother told Bazz to go to the doctor to get a vasectomy, or she would do it herself. Bazz went to the physician the next day. Arno's father worked in the fisheries with Arnor's 3 older brothers. His sisters followed their mother into the clothing industry. Arno worked as labor at a warehouse, and for his neighbor at a small droid repair shop. Firmly in the peasant class, the Coates family were poor, but not as poor as most. Having 9 workers in a family tended to ensure that ends would meet. If things were looking particularly grim one week, Bazz's boss would let him go home with some of the day's by-catch that would have been thrown out instead.

As the youngest of 4 boys in a poor family where every resource was vital, Arno had to learn how to fight for his share. He lost often, going against three older brothers meant that many times he'd just get his arms pinned to his sides while his brothers laughed. Arno also learned how to take a beating. Siblings meant well, but as with anyone, things went a little far on occasion. Still, Arno gave as good as he got when the odds were more fair. Being able to fight never went to his head, Arno was never a bully, though he easily could have been. Nor was he bullied at school; after a few broken noses people tend to leave you alone.

Arno was born at the tail-end of the D'Astan Campaign, and grew up as Serenno was on the decline and already out of the war. It was a time of uncertainty and fear for the peasantry; they were not used to seeing the powerful Great Houses defeated and their assets shrinking. People talked about what they had lost, yet Arno only knew Serenno as it was then: beaten, but not quite broken. He could not appreciate everything that happened. Things just...were the way they were. Serenno wasn't all-powerful, Jedi and the Exiles were evil.

When Arno turned 17, he joined the military in service to Great House Comprassi, to the great consternation of his parents. They'd seen the devastation caused by war and wanted their son to have no part of it. Service to one's Count was a noble thing, but the D'Astan Campaign had left its scars even on those who hadn't served. Arno tried assuring them that nobody wanted to go to war anymore, but they weren't convinced. Something could always happen. Their greatest fear was Arno encountering a Jedi or Exile, legendary fighters with weapons that cut through armor like butter.

Serenno was aware of that. Military training did discuss the Jedi and Exiles at great length, and hand to hand combat with blades was fully incorporated into the training program dictated by Comprassi. The military had to be capable of not only dealing with pirates and regular soldiers, but lightsaber-wielding opponents as well. "The best way to deal with them is a bomb or missile, but we aren't always that lucky," said Arno's combat instructor on the first day of training before proceeding to beat the crap out of them with a dulled training blade.

Arno served for 3 years, the standard tour of duty on Serenno. He took to military life well, he handled a blaster pretty well, he excelled at physical combat, and was qualified to pilot landspeeders and in-atmosphere shuttles. After his tour was up, Arno went back to the working world and found it lacking. He had no wish to follow his father and brothers into the fishery business, nor didn't want to work in a warehouse for the rest of his life. He pondered joining one of the mercenary groups that operated on Serenno, but he didn't like the idea of having to potentially work against Great House Comprassi. So a year after leaving the military, Arno re-enlisted. His combat qualifications eventually found himself part of an expeditionary unit meant to investigate and respond to suspected Jedi and Exile presence in the D'Astan sector. It was no secret that Comprassi wanted their heads for the disastrous Campaign.

  • Arno can be the typical soldier personality. If he's on patrol or a mission, it's straight to business. There's no place for anything else. When Arno is off-duty however, he lightens up a bit. The rigid discipline is still there of course, but he's more willing to let loose more than what would be allowed on base. He despises the Jedi and the Exiles, and has a hard time trusting force-sensitivities in general. He enjoys drinking with random people at bars, and has no problem with being in the thick of a raucous crowd.

Family is very important to him, whether it's his biological family or military family. He'd do anything to support them. His relationship with his family is on the mend, over time they've grown to accept that Arno was just meant for military life. They aren't thrilled about it, but it is what it is. Arno makes sure to not talk about military life too much when he visits home.

Looks good, but for his gear you should link something for his blaster rifle and medium armor from the tech area cuz it's a little to vague. Pending that update:

Approved!
