Despite getting a quick grasp of how the galaxy worked, there were still an uncountable number of worlds that Renfry had never been to before. Some of those worlds were important and others were not. Nar Shaddaa seemed to fall into the former category, and with the Syndicates always boiling below the surface of the galaxy, its relevance was only increased.

It wasn't, however, the kind of planet that Renfry thought she would enjoy. It had some of its own charms and it might grow on her eventually, but it was so... lacking in fresh air. She scrunched up her nose as she got a whiff of what had to have been sewage as she walked down the the street and into an alley to the adjacent street. There were plenty of people walking by who looked like they wanted to give her a hard time, but thankfully (for them) no one had tried as of yet.

Her pace was quick as she went to the area she had agreed to meet Malicia: a small bridge in the entertainment district. She broke out of the small alley she'd just been in and out into the bustling street. As soon as she did, she realized that this was the perfect world to lose one's self in. There were people everywhere and no one paid attention to anyone else.

She pushed through the crowd until she came to the edge of the bridge and peered over. There was a sheer drop, hundreds of yards at least to a floor below. She could barely make out the details below but could see that it was consumed by darkness. And here, she waited for her partner.

The moon hummed with life. Everywhere. From inches away to the very edges of her senses. They were like little wisps. Little directing trailing lights that flew around trilling for attention. It was... nearly overwhelming at first, yet she was able to gain her focus back. With focus. She was getting better at it. At least, she hoped so.

She trailed down the streets of Nar Shaddaa. The little silver spikes on her Cadre-armor reflected all the lights of the city moon until she got into the thicket of a crowd. Most of the people moving through were taller than her so she somewhat disappeared into it. Her jaw tightened as her focus increased.

The small Sith neared Renfry, picking up her signature. They'd fought and partied together but Malicia still knew very little about the woman. They'd talked sparingly, on both occasions. Malicia, at least, knew that Asminys wanted the woman's power... her magic, and that she seemed friendly with Emryc.

Malicia's focus changed when she stepped in front of the woman. "Renfry," she greeted, nodding slightly in respect. "Where would you prefer to go first?" she asked out of interest. They could go straight to their contact or whatever else. Malicia also needed to make sure her men had arrived. Not having some infiltrate the syndicate would be a waste of a trip.

Renfry turned as Malicia arrived. Her face lit up and she smiled broadly.

Ah, good to see you again, she said. While the two women may not have known each other well, Renfry still liked the other woman. And not only that, she believed making a more positive relationship was always a plus. None of this "brooding" she'd seen from the other Sith. Perhaps it was her own upbringing outside the Sith Order that brought on this viewpoint.

She glanced back over the edge again as she thought about where they should go first. Her mouth twisted a bit as she thought and then she looked back at Malicia.

Let's go meet with the Cartel first, she said. They were to meet with a Lieutenant from the Hutt Cartel who seemed to be having some issues with a group of pirates operating both on and off world. Details to follow in the meeting apparently.

She started walking through the street and in the direction of their meeting. She had no idea how these Cartel people operated, but she was setting her expectations low.

You have people... involved? she asked. The Sith Lord had more assets at her disposal than Renfry and from the sounds of things, the other woman had some sort of plan of her own in the works. @Dread

Malicia smiled back somewhat, tipping her head curiously at the woman's greeting. There was a warmness to it, something that the Darth had trouble not being suspicious of when it came from a Sith. Renfry seemed genuine, at least, and that intrigued her. It was probably because she was new. The Darth didn't return the warmness though and simply began to walk beside the woman down the street, once Renfry had made up her mind.

Her comm beeped before she could answer the woman's question. Her thumb pressed on a button, allowing a low voice to eerily hiss "Mother" through the comm's static. It was the signal to let her know that all three of her men had arrived. "You're clear to continue," she replied simply, hanging up after.

The Darths eyes returned to Renfry once the call was over. There was a hint of emptiness in her gaze, one she fought against but could not clear completely. Though her partner could possibly take it as disinterest and ambivalence, it was simply because her focus was still split, "Yes, I have men that will be staying here on Nar Shaddaa. Ideally I'd like them to join the cartel and act as my eyes and ears."

She looked back in front of them and a building that they were closing in on. There was a deep sense of paranoia and anger coming from it. Through the cracks of the doorway and windows, a furious booming voice clearly that of a hutt echoed in the streets.

Renfry was pretty used to greetings from other Sith who weren't warm, and she didn't seem particularly bothered by the lack of kindness from the other woman. To be expected.

Renfry was perceptive enough to pick up the emptiness in Malicia's gaze, though the reason why was lost on her. There was no indication of what the issue was, and Renfry filed "ask about that" under "bad decisions to make later." She was curious, she was shameless, and she was unafraid. Quite the interesting combination for any interaction.

Hmm, she said in response. She supposed that made sense, it was always good to have eyes and ears around. She also wondered just how many individuals the Sith Lord had working for her. That wasn't something she was going to ask either. The Sith were a growing organization, and the Lords had more power growing by the day. And all that they built up for themselves, typically.

They reached the building that contained a Hutt, and the two were stopped by guards out front.

Any weapons? the man - a Weequay - with a gravelly voice said. I'm sure you understand we have to search you, he said. They weren't apparently going to be allowed inside with weapons, but that didn't shock Renfry. Like the two women couldn't use the Force to simply kill anyone in their way anyway. @Dread

Perhaps it wouldn't be a surprise, but Malicia, in all her lack of patience, did not stop to be searched and disarmed. While patience was required to get some things done, it was not required here. It wasn't like the Cadre encouraged patience....OK maybe it was just her. "You will NOT search us," she waved her hand, walking by without stopping.

Both men stood back with glazed over eyes, unable to understand exactly what was happening as she made her way past them. Smoke curled its way into her nostrils from the hallway. It did not disturb her but it was familiar, similar to what she'd smelled on homeless men. Likely a spice, and probably one that was distributed by this very hutt.

Men and men and droids and everything in between stared at the spectacle at the end of the room. As expected, at the end laid a throne, and sat on top a plump hutt. It was the one who's bellowing words left the stench in the room. "ITS ALL GONE! ALL OF IT!" he boomed in huttese, anger drenched his words. "YOU WILL PAY WITH YOUR LIFE !"

The man raised his hands. "Wait, wait! I can get the shipment back if you just give me a chance!" he spoke back. "YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE! YOU WORTHLESS FOOL! KILL HIM! KILL HIM! KILL HIM!" the hutt snapped back, smacking his arms and tail around in his temper tantrum.

The words only became louder as she approached the throne room. The Darth did not wait her turn or slow her pace when the scene appeared before her empty gaze. She continued moving despite all the looks and whispers in the gathered crowd. She only stopped when she made it behind the man who'd managed to incur the hutts wrath, grabbing her lightsaber hilt and igniting the humming red blade into him. "As you wish," she said to the hutt.

Renfry was a bit surprised when Malicia simply pushed past the guards. She was going to stop and go through the motions, but then, she supposed Sith Lords probably didn't feel the need to do that. She took mental note.

She followed after Malicia and deeper into the base, the sickeningly sweet smell hitting her nose all at once. This was what she didn't like about this world: no fresh air anywhere. Every step had a new scent and none of them were pleasant.

Renfry didn't speak a word of Huttese, but she didn't have to in order to put together that there was a lot of anger, violence lingering in the air, and one very terrified man who was probably going to end up dead any second.

And then Malicia had killed him.

Renfry's eyebrows rose a bit in surprise, but that was about it. No indication of displeasure or discomfort. The man's drooling head came to rest just next to her foot and she pushed it aside. She didn't want to get dead man drool all over her boots, after all.

Every weapon in the room was immediately pointed at the pair of women as the lightsaber continued to hum, but no one fired.

We can get your shipment back for you, she said, unflinching in the face of either the Hutt's anger or the weapons that were pointed in their direction. There was a moment's silence that hung in the air after she spoke and the guards began to shift around nervously.

And then the Hutt laughed. A large, hardy laugh that was very much in contrast to the tantrum he'd just finished.

You Sith are quite fearless, he said and the droid began to translate, much to Renfry's relief.

What makes you think you can track down what my men have not? This world belongs to us, he said, you can't just swing your fancy sword around and expect everyone to do what you want. @Dread

It was only when Renfry spoke that Malicia's attention went back to the woman. She hadn't really thought about how her Sith partner might react to her walking straight into the middle of a nest of hardened criminals. Her partner remained calm, at least, and didn't appear to mind. Malicia wouldn't forget that. Unfortunately for Renfry, it might not be the best thing for her to note. Trailing behind a Lord who tended to leave a large wake behind her probably wasn't always the safest for everyone.

The hutts words seemed almost like they were testing her, as he mentioned not being able to expect everyone to do what they wanted. She didn't exactly agree but her reply was accompanied by a very faint, amused smile beneath her mask. "I wouldn't expect that, Great Hutt," Malicia answered in silky calm voice, almost submissively. It was completely in contrast to her regular cold gruffness and almost... involuntary. It was her simply falling back on the training that'd been drilled into her mind. "Not on your world."

"Luck,"
she said next, though there was no context at first. She didn't believe in luck, but she continued anyway. "My men managed to find a bunker that your enemy has hidden in your territory." She'd had a few men look into the Hutts problems before she bothered to even think about a trip here. "Your shipment might not be there, but once we get a hold of some of their men it'll only be a matter of time before we find it."

Malicia held up her palm, distinguishing her lightsaber and bringing a small datapad to her hand with the Force. She assumed that it'd be less triggering than reaching for her belt. She floated the datapad to the servant that stood beside the hutt, showing respect by not expecting the hutt himself to take it. "That datapad has all the information my men managed to find out." She realized by giving the hutt the information, he could simply send his own men. But, she hoped that the hutt would see the benefit of letting the Sith do his dirty work instead of possibly wasting his own men.

There was something about being on the very edge of danger that Renfry had always found liberating. This was no exception. Perhaps it was also the fact that despite the danger of the situation, she didn't feel any fear. The two women alone could probably have laid waste to most if not everyone in this room. Perhaps one of them would have died, but perhaps not. After staring down the most powerful member of the Jedi Order, somehow everything else just felt... subpar.

She didn't speak as Malicia spoke up, using a tone Renfry recognized well. Not because she'd heard it from Malicia before, but because it was one of manipulation. As one Sith had once said "you can hide a lot behind a beautiful smile." True power didn't need to declare itself all the time.

And what is it you hope for in exchange? the Hutt asked. That was the real question. The Hutt knew that nothing came for free, and the Sith would be risking their own necks in order to wipe out the den.

But the Sith wanted to build relationships, and Renfry wanted the men and resources of the rival. Sith and Syndicate networking was a... strange relationship and arrangement.

We'd like to bring them to heel, and gain the favor of the Great Hutt, she said.

More skeptical looks from the Hutt and his men.

And you hope to profit from this arrangement, he said with a gurgling laugh.

And how do I know you do not intend to betray me. Or that you didn't arrange for me to be robbed? he asked. Renfry could see some of the guards shifting their grips on their rifles uncomfortably, expecting to be told to open fire at any moment. @Dread

Malicia remained quiet at first when Renfry answered. She could feel the tenseness in the room grow after, the air of suspicion thickening.

All of it probably should've made her worry about the deal, though really, she didn't mind. Gaining this hutts favour was far more beneficial than anything else, but deep down.. deep beneath her focus on the hutt, below the mission, the men and women gathered around, her hunger still lurked. In a sense it constantly paced around inside her mind. Around and around and around and around maddeningly, watching with hungry eyes, teased by the amount of life so close to its deadly grasp.

But she reigned in the thought.

"There is no way you can know for sure, but I'll be frank with you, Great Hutt," she began, keeping her hand up and away from her belt. As a Force user, she was aware the gesture meant nothing but to those that didn't understand Sith it probably did mean something. Maybe. "I may raid their arms locker while I'm at their bunker, take a few things for myself, but not your shipment. That will be returned to you."

Malicia didn't eye the crowd when she took a moments pause, even though she could hear the gentle tappings of some fingers on weapons. Her tone didn't falter either, remaining completely calm. "Our Order desires your favour, not you or the Cartels wrath. You favour is far more beneficial than anything else we could get out of this and I believe you know that," she added. It was a manipulation but also not a lie. If he looked at it closely, he'd probably be able to see that even amidst the cloud of mistrust that'd still heavily linger.

The tension in the air could have been cut with a dull butter knife. The Hutt stared at them for a long moment and then rumbled... or was it a burp?

If the little girls can beat them, they can keep whatever they like except the shipment, he said, but even that was laced with insult. Renfry's mind began to travel to replacing him with an underling. Someone less obnoxious.

Maybe someday, she thought to herself, pondering all the different poisons and toxins that could be used to end a Hutt's life.

Thank you, your excellence, Renfry said with a bow. Someday you'll choke on it, she thought to herself. Perhaps she would make it her personal mission to groom his successor.

She turned to leave and glanced back to see if Malicia followed. It was good to be out of the room that smelled of nothing but spice, but as was already established, it was a bit liberal to call it "fresh" air outside.

She started walking down the street, heading for the bunker. When she was certain that they'd put enough distance between themselves and the Hutt she spoke.

Well, he was thoroughly unpleasant, she said. Even here she didn't dare say anything of killing him, of course. This was a Hutt world and there were likely spies everywhere, but someone finding a Hutt's demeaning manner of speech unpleasant was hardly worthy of report. @Dread

Malicia's coolness faltered when the hutt burped then called her a little girl. She had to mentally reel herself back, though it was not the first time she'd been treated this way. Noblemen and noblewomen could be just as demeaning and she'd spent enough time around them. She could feel Renfry's own displeasure but she too kept herself in check. A partner worth keeping around.

"We won't disappoint," the small Lord added, though she did not bow like her partner. Malicia followed Renfry out of spice filled building, passing by the dozens of eyes that followed them. This time she noticed some of the smoke escape through the doorway as they left, little writhing tendrils that reminded her of something. Maybe if she was lucky she'd feel some of the effects from the spice and it'd dull her mind in some small way.

She looked at her partner blankly at first, but a faint smile appeared on her cheeks that reflected in her eyes. "Are there any pleasant hutts in the galaxy?" she asked with a light chuckle, allowing herself a small moment of reprieve. Maybe it was the distance they were putting between themselves and that hutt.

The silkiness in her voice was gone, obviously, and the distance in her eyes greatened as they made their way back through a crowd. "Have you been to a place like this before?" she asked, partly looking for a distraction from Renfry.

Thankfully they broke through the crowd quickly, leaving them a view of some buildings. Malicia looked to the one on the far left. It seemed very abandoned and dilapidated. Graffiti, both dull and fresh, told several stories on every visible wall up until it was too high to reach. As unintuitive as it might sound to some, the building had an entrance in its basement. A ladder down to the tunnels that lead to the bunker.

There was a group of three men to the side of the building, smoking and talking. None were human, all aliens though they had helmets so it was hard to tell which kind. She only knew they weren't human because what skin peeked through their pieces of armour were brightly coloured. They were heavily armed from the looks of it. Weapons strapped to their sides and back.

Renfry was pleasantly surprised when Malicia gave a smile. She got the impression the woman was either broody all the time or didn't care for Renfry very much. Okay, fine, so they were Sith, none of them were that friendly, but still. It was nice to see.

Fair point, she said with a snicker. She didn't know a lot of Hutts, but they all seemed... a bit unsavory. If their reputations were anything to go by, then they were all pretty much like that.

Not exactly, she answered. She'd done a bit of traveling since leaving Dathomir, but no worlds had been quite like this.

Do you spend much time on worlds like this? she asked. Or perhaps it was Malicia's first time here as well. Her eyes caught side of all the graffiti covering the walls and buildings and they lingered on the art. It was... well, some of it was good and some of it was not. But why would people do that? It seemed dumb.

She looked to the men out front, their weapons, armor, and the building that was quite beat up. She weighed their options from a distance, making no attempt to close in. She felt as if she was in no rush to get the job done.

Do you prefer a direct or subtle approach? she asked.

We could just kill them or we could go into that building, she said, motioning in the direction of a building next to their target. They could move from one upper floor to the next. With both being "abandoned" getting to the upper floors shouldn't have been too difficult.

Better chance of recovering valuables if we don't attack directly, she said. Of course, with enough power and violence, they could overcome the enemy quickly and easily. @Dread

Malicia listened to Renfry's answer, not replying right away to her question. She tried to remember what it was like to be new to worlds like this, but her memory didn't go back that far back. "I've spent plenty of time on worlds like this," she answered after the pause. "I've been here before, though not since I earned my freedom," she spoke plainly, feeling no shame for being Cadre. She wouldn't shy from the subject.

Malicia looked at the building Renfry pointed to then began to walk towards it. "It'll be faster to take the building," she answered, and it was all she really cared about. If Renfry decided she wanted a direct assault she'd stop, otherwise Malicia's mind was set.

Though she she stepped in front of the buildings door, it slid up... halfway, forcing her to duck under the rest, keeping her hand up in case it decided to randomly close on her. It was certainly old, and smelled worse than the outside. Maybe even worse than the hutts spice-filled nest. It reminded her of something in her past, though she shoved it aside to make her way up enough floors to switch over.

She started up the stairwell, only to find a huge chunk of the stairwell missing. It looked like it'd been blown apart or maybe rotted away, but three flights of stairs were gone."Right..." she mumbled, looking up. They'd have to jump, or find another way up.

Your freedom? she asked. She was unfamiliar with Malicia's background, but the woman didn't seem to make any attempt to hide it, so she made no attempt not to ask. Knowledge was fascinating in all of its forms, whether personal, professional, or arcane.

She proceeded along to the building, ducking under the doorway and frowning as she got her first whiff of the interior. It was dark, it smelled of mold and urine, and she got the impression it was frequently inhabited by the... less savory members of society.

They proceeded up the stairs until the stairs promptly ended. Renfry looked up and started chewing on her lip. She could have teleported herself, but herself and someone else was something she'd prefer to avoid. Problem was that Renfry didn't carry any sort of a climbing device.

Time for a climb, she said, pointing toward the railings still attached to the walls. They would provide hand holds and potentially some footing as well, but it wouldn't be easy.

She moved over and took the lead, her experience in the jungle coming back to serve her well. She took a firm grip on the railing, testing its integrity to hold her weight, and then hoisted herself up. Her feet went to the various remainders of the steps and at certain points, had to simply press firmly against the wall, pushing out against her grip to keep herself supported.

It took several minutes, but she eventually reached the summit, turning back to see how Malicia fared and render assistance if necessary.

Her eyes also swept over the floor, noting the various fresh-bedded places. It appeared someone had made a home here and the stairs... probably didn't collapse on accident. @Dread

"Yes. Myself and my siblings killed our masters and earned our freedom," she answered simply. Most people liked simple answers, so it was what she delivered.

Though thinking about the Cadre, it made her wonder something. Renfry was new to the Order just like herself and her Cadre-siblings. Of course, Renfry was newer but it was something they had in common. "Do you like being Sith?" she asked.

Malicia followed behind Renfry, finding their way up. It was a bit risky but she didn't fear the fall much. Everything, unfortunately, smelled on this floor and she felt life about. One man came flying out of a room with a... butter knife and came at them. The small Darth finally allowed her hunger out for that moment. Reaching out, dark tendrils poured from her hand hungrily. They writhed with need and wrapped around the man, ripping out his life and bringing it to her.

For that split second she felt that long awaited satisfaction, but it was gone quickly after. She wanted more, and perhaps she'd be given it. She saw two men peaking out from a doorway, then ducking behind when they saw her gaze. They too had weapons, likely small, since she'd only glanced some slivery reflections in their hands.

Renfry hadn't expected that to be Malicia's story. She wondered what the story of other Sith were like. It was far different than her upbringing in the Nightsisters, wasn't it? Or perhaps not. She couldn't imagine going back and killing her Clan Mother or her sisters, even if her relationship with them was strained.

The next question, however, caught her off-guard. She was Sith now, but somehow still felt like she didn't belong, either here or as a Nightsister. But she'd learned so much since joining.

It's different, but has been very... interesting, she said. She was still trying to find her niche within the Sith, but she would.

When they reached the pinnacle, she looked around and caught sight of the man leaping out at them. Malicia dealt with the man quickly. Renfry could sense it in the Shadow as she wrenched the life out of the man.

As they ducked into cover to look across the way, Renfry suddenly found herself exponentially more interested in what she'd just seen and felt than in the job at hand.

What was that? she asked without hesitation. She didn't care if it was the kind of thing that shouldn't have been asked, Renfry's thirst for knowledge was insatiable, and whatever that was fascinated her. She'd not seen it done before, and that made her interested.

Malicia listened to Renfry's answer. It sounded as if there was a hint of hesitation in it. She wasn't sure why there was but, for the moment, she choose not to pry the woman for more information.

She heard Renfry ask her next question after she'd ripped the first man's life out of him. Malicia turned towards the woman's voice for a second, there was nothing in her eyes but an empty, cold stare before she simply moved forward, each instinctual step bringing her closer to the remaining men.

The men stepped out hearing her footsteps draw closer, both raising their hands upwards, rearing to stab the small Sith with their silvery weapons. But, Malicia reacted the same as before, this time using both her hands to pour those writhing tendrils towards the life she so badly craved. They coiled around their victims just as before, ripping the life from the men, who arced their backs and screamed a split second before the lights in their eyes went out and their empty husks fell to the ground.

With no other targets close by but Renfry's darkness, Malicia was able to reign herself back again. It took focus to overpower the instinct. Her eyes stared at the ground blankly but some life returned to them after. She finally managed to look back at Renfry to consider if she was going to answer her question, then away again towards a window facing the building they were meant to go.

No one had actually asked her what it was she did. She assumed they either knew, or simply accepted it.

Before she moved again, though, after some thought she replied honestly, "I don't know." With that, she went to the window, calling on the Force to allow herself to leap to the top of the other buildings roof. As she landed, she decided to add a little more, "Its something that... I felt. An instinct that I followed."

"Have you not seen or heard of anything similar?"
she asked while moving towards the doorway that lead down, partly not wanting to know the answer. She hadn't even stopped to research what it was she did because, at the back of her mind, she knew that one day it might overwhelm her and there was an inkling of fear there.

Perhaps it was unique to the Sith Lord. Feeling it again and on a wider scale, she recalled the sensation from Ajan Kloss now. It was draining and sucking away, and Renfry could feel that it would have happily sucked the Nightsister dry as well if given free rein. It was as if it had a mind - or hunger - of its own. Feeling it on a wider scale than moments ago and without the distractions of battling Jedi, Renfry focused on the sensation, gleaning what she could.

Subconsciously, she began to prepare herself for the woman to be unable to pull it back in, preparing to shield herself from being consumed. But before that happened, the tendrils of power subsided.

Fascinating! Renfry found herself captivated and excited by the power. Even as the woman answered that she didn't know what it was, Renfry found herself wanting to pick at the puzzle. She found herself wanting to help the woman find out what she had... or was.

She leapt across to the other building and landed agilely next to the other Sith.

Does it have a mind of its own? she asked. It almost reminded her of the... infection that Ender had had. But that had been a liability more than a power. This... might have been both.

Outside of you, no, she said frankly, but the arcane... it was her thing. Perhaps it would be her niche, and finding the answers to what this was was certainly captivating enough for her.

Malicia kept walking when Renfry continued the dialogue about what she'd seen. It took some focus to quash the surprise on her face. The woman had managed to glean that much, and very quickly. Was it because she was a nightsister, or was it obvious? Maybe if Malicia wasn't so surprised that someone was curious enough to pry, she wouldn't have decided to continue to answer, "It...does but it's not that simple."

Malicia opened the door and went ahead down the stairwell, though she carefully stepped down them. One, because she was wary about the rotting steps falling out. Two, because there could be men in the building. Though she managed to get to the top floor without running into anyone.

She remained quiet at first, because she had to think before continuing. What she had could possibly be considered a weakness. She constantly fought for control over it, but, something drove her to answer, "It is part of me, but its whispers, claws at my mind as it paces around and around and around and around. It begs me to listen until it drives me... MAD." The last few words were spoken through a clenched jaw, almost as if she tried to stop herself from saying it, but it was freeing to put into words.

Without even thinking, she'd stopped and raised her hand to her head. Her hand gripped her forehead. She leaned into it as her nails dug into her. And she lingered there, for a handful of quickened heartbeats, before spinning around on her heels and turning to face Renfry directly. It was both her and her hunger staring at the woman. "Why are you asking? Why are you interested?" she hissed, anger and uncertainty lingered in her gaze and it could be easily heard in her words. Was this woman trying to find weakness in her?
