Rook chuffed as he poured over a holoprojector displaying the Core and the outlying spacelanes. Pulsing red dots indicated recent attacks. One in particular worried him: Sarapin. From there it was relatively easy access to the core. That fleet would still have to contend with the formidable defenses at Coruscant and Anaxes. But from Sarapin, if the fleet was even in the area anymore, either Anaxes or Coruscant could be struck and the Imperium would have no idea which until the attack had begun. Rook sighed, annoyed. What the hell was Audroti doing? The Imperium was almost entirely on the defensive. The few attacks they had launched were repelled. It seemed, to Rook, that the classical line of stellar combat was not serving them well.

Not when you had an enemy using the smaller spacelanes to avoid fortified systems.

He adjusted his position in the oversized chair (an accommodation for him) as he waited for the Dark Lord to arrive. Rook had gotten a communique from Somnus, and as requested, arrived at the private conference room. The black wookiee furrowed his brow as he contemplated the oncoming Core Campaign, and one question rose to mind over and over: What would shift the momentum of the war?

A holographic presentation of Geist Weiss materialized in the war room. The real Dark Lord was aboard the Empyreal, voyaging to Ziost for other business. He had hoped to speak to his Wookie ally before he departed, but conflicting schedules prevenged him from being able to do so. Instead their conference was taking place millions of miles apart, over heavily encrypted networks developed and installed after the secession of Ubiqtorate. ICARUS had been removed and replaced with a new system, the Dark Lord paranoid that any network could be compromised.

"Rookwrr," the Dark Lord's ghost said in greeting. In privacy, he preferred the more informal name for the Wookie. Rank meant little to the two veterans. "I asked to speak with you in private because I have some concerns. Warmaster Kova is not present because so far he has failed to stop the offensive of the insurgent forces. I seek a new opinion. We are in a dire situation. There is no beating around the bush. If we do not turn things around soon, we will find ourselves in a grim situation. We must turn the tables. The core must be protected. Warmaster Kova is a warrior, but what I need is a hunter. Rookwrr, there is a major inroad into the core that I believe needs protecting." The Dark Lord proceeded to expand in greater detail.

The hologram of the galaxy vanished, only to be replaced by the visage of Geist Weiss himself. Rook listened attentively as the Dark Lord explained what he wanted done. Protect the crossroads of the Hydian Way and Corellian Run? Defiance Armada had already bypassed that, but it was still a system that offered...opportunities. The trick was how to get there and do it right without weakening other systems' security. It could be done, he thought, with the proper planning and strong vision. "Lord Weiss, I can accomplish what you ask...But I will need the freedom to do what I need to in order to secure that system," he growled. "I can put us in a long-term position to hit the Cartel from two directions...among other targets. But it will probably take resources of enough significance that I can't get if I'm operating under strict parameters."

He fell quiet for a moment, eyes staring thoughtfully through the hologram of Geist. "This fleet that attacked Sarapin...From that location, they already have inroads to some important systems. That fleet, or their supply lines, must be found and destroyed. I suggest putting Kova on that task in no unclear terms that he must succeed." Perhaps it was result of a sore spot he had for not being appointed Warmaster, but Rook could not help but think critically of his fellow Darth.
