DESCRIPTION
The Assertor-class command dreadnought is an utterly titanic class of capital ship originally produced by Kuat Drive Yards for the Galactic Empire. Eclipsed in size only by the gargantuan Executor-class star dreadnoughts, the Assertor was more widely produced than the larger ship, although only just. In general, Assertors were issued to sector fleets as a mobile command center, acting as a flagship from which a fleet admiral or sector moff would oversee combined fleet operations while on campaign. In addition to this, of course, Assertors were extraordinarily well armed, and could fight in the line of battle if called upon to do so.

The Assertor-class command dreadnought is some 15,000 meters in length, over 9 times the length of a standard Imperial-class star destroyer. It has an optimum crew of 125,000 beings, and can carry 20,000 passengers, with consumables sufficient for 3 years in space. Armament is impressive, consisting of a mix of turbolasers, ion cannons, tractor beams and concussion missile launchers well in excess of the amount carried by smaller vessels. The ship carries a starfighter complement of 120, plus 24 shuttles and various ground walker vehicles.

In the present day, Assertor-class command dreadnoughts are vanishingly rare in anything like original condition. Most that were captured by the New Republic at the end of the Galactic Civil War were decommissioned and scrapped due to the enormous cost of maintaining them. One is preserved in a disarmed state as part of the Historical Battleship Preservation Association's collection at Coruscant, while others serve primarily as orbital hulks in various sectors, converted into immobile defense platforms or supply depots. At least one is still known to serve as a defense command center in the Mid Rim, although its drive systems and even its more extravagant weapon systems have been largely removed. There are, of course, various wrecks scattered across the Galaxy, although the cost of recovering and repairing most of them would be prohibitive.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Assertor-class dreadnoughts are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. By law and custom, vessels of this size and firepower may not be operated by civilians.

INTENT
To create a standard dreadnought, and to bring a ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Assertor-class dreadnoughts are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. The acquisition of such a ship by a faction must be thoroughly vetted by and coordinated with staff, and possession is subject to being revoked for any reason.
