Above is an image of EVE Online Drifters, owned by CCP Games. This image represents what upper-class Astartans would look like.

Name
Astartans

Biology
The Astartans are humanoid in nature, possessing most of the same physical attributes as humans. However, they are very tall, averaging between 6 and 7 feet tall (1.8-2.2 metres) at maturity. Although it is possible for an Astartan to be born Force-sensitive, it is very rare.

Eye Colour
The same as human eyes.

Skin Colour
Generally pale, usually a white or light brown, grey, or blueish-grey.

Hair
Dark brown or black hair. Culture dictates that they have short hair, even females have only neck-length hair at its longest. Baldness is generally acceptable as well.

Subspecies
None.

Breeding
Sexual reproduction, like humans. Astartans can breed with other humanoid races, but it is heavily frowned upon.

Average Lifespan
Without any mechanical modification, Astartans can only live around 75 or 80 years. However, with their typical heavy cybernetic upgrades, vital organs will eventually fail them at around 150-160 years.

Strengths
Due to heavy cybernetics, Astartans often have a great deal of heightened physical prowess, and sometimes increased vision or cognitive ability.

Weaknesses
Because of heavy reliance on mechanical upgrades, Astartans cannot actually increase their strength or speed past the limits of their cybernetics. While a human can train and strengthen his/her muscles, an Astartan has to purchase better upgrades or make do with what he/she has. As they have metallic parts, Astartans are also much more susceptible to electric shocks. EMPs are especially dangerous if the cybernetics aren’t shielded properly.

Diet
Omnivorous. Almost all their food is synthetically created, especially among the lower classes of society. Eating is culturally seen as a weakness of the flesh, and upper classes can often enjoy the luxury of having the necessary proteins injected directly into their system.

Behavior/Temperament
Astartans are a very arrogant and vain race, often looking down on others that aren’t cybernetically enhanced, both in their own society and outsiders. They will also go to great lengths to make sure something “looks good”; for example, an Astartan may not use a specific class of starship or gun because to him/her it looks like trash.

Communication
Astartans speak Basic exclusively.

Culture
Astartan culture is dominated by the near-religious idolization of the mechanically enhanced body. This ideology affects every part of their civilization. They are divided into upper, middle, and lower classes; the higher the class, the more cybernetic upgrades they will have, and the more expensive the upgrades will be. Slavery is an abominable practice, as is owning a pet; the use of droids is much more favourable. Astartans won't necessarily press their ideology on other races; even if the others did become mechanical, the Astartans would still believe themselves to be superior. This has often led to disputes, resulting in some races' universal dislike of Astartans.

History
The Astartans originated from the planet Axum. During the time of the Old Republic's collapse, there was a civil war between the Astartans and the Axumites over territory and resources. The war was short, however, and the planet was divided evenly among the two. The leader of this time was incredably influential and was the first Astartan to cybernetically upgrade himself when he was severely wounded. He stressed that the Astartans could overcome the weakness of the flesh through mechanical might. He and his successors supported the researchers and scientists who worked in that field and allocated nearly all their resources for that purpose. The Astartans still firmly hold to this ideology.

Planet

The Astartans' homeworld is the planet of Axum in the Inner Rim. They currently reside in multiple sky cities stretching up from the planet, many of which pierce the lower atmosphere. These cities are very aesthetically pleasing, due to the Astartans' vain and materiallistic nature. They can also be found in large communities on Coruscant, Mandalore, and other planets with mechanical and architectural beauty.

Technology
The Astartans’ technological advances in cybernetics are unparalleled. Constantly striving to improve themselves and become one with the machine, millions upon millions of credits from both the government and the upper class are poured into this field of research. However, such expenditures do not come without consequences; the Astartans have barely researched their own methods of weaponry, transportation, and droid tech; they instead rely on modifying and improving the designs of other cultures and races to suit their own needs.
Most curious of all is the Astartans’ medical science. Although they have some of the best technology designed for sustaining life in cases of extreme injury and in surgical removal and replacement, they are centuries behind in some of the most basic medical treatments. This is due to the fact that most Astartans, when seriously injured, would rather just replace the defective part with a cybernetic upgrade, instead of actually trying to heal.

Notable PCs
Magnus Valen

Intent
When I decided to make a character on this website (Magnus Valen), I looked extensively through the various species in the Star Wars universe, but didn’t find any that suited what I was looking for. So, I instead decided to create my own race. If the Astartans did affect the galaxy in any way, they would simply be a top-notch provider for highly advanced cybernetic limbs and other such upgrades. I would be willing to NPC any part of such interactions.

So the biggest element seems to be the idiolization of implants and technologically enhancing the body. Rather than creating an entire species for it, why not just have them be humans with this culture? And as such, you only need to worry about the planet rather than having to make an entire species to go along with it.

Good point, I was considering doing that but I hadn't really decided on it. Makes more sense that way anyway. I guess this can be "unapproved" then?
