YESAsuka Hino was a Force-sensitive human female from Corvus and a member of the Jedi Order who held the rank of Jedi Knight. Asuka was discovered on her homeworld while she was still young and she was given to the Jedi as a way of sparing her from a life on a mostly impoverish and razed world, thanks to the machinations of Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth over a century earlier while the planet was still under the jurisdiction of the magistrate's Imperial remnant.
Biography
Asuka was initially excited to begin her Jedi training. But her excitement dimmed as her lessons began and she found herself increasingly isolated from her peers. As the Jedi Order no longer practiced taking children from their homes for training, she discovered that she was among the youngest students at the temple on Ajan Kloss. The age gap between her and her contemporaries made others treat her more like a little sister than an equal. They also advanced through their lessons faster than her, feeding a sense of jealousy in the young Padawan. When Asuka was finally taken by a Master for more direct training—a man by the name of Rhonan Fel—their early relationship was plagued by tension and anger as Asuka continued to struggle fitting in with her peers.
As a Jedi Knight, Asuka maintained her maverick reputation. She was rarely seen on the Order's homeworld of Ajan Kloss and she often shunned its various gatherings, conclaves, and memorials. She preferred, instead, to stick to the Outer Rim Territories, where she hunted down and dismantled criminal syndicates wherever she could. She also constructed a pair of white-bladed lightsabers during her travels, suggesting that she has had contact with Dark Jedi at some point in her career.
Personality and traits
Asuka could at times be rash and unconventional, and was somewhat of a daredevil, unafraid (and even thrill by) dangerous situations. She was also blunt and was not known for being particularly polite, nor were her superiors warm towards her due to her tendency to question and defy orders. Her sarcasm was particularly noteworthy, as was her defining trait: a penchant for single-minded determination that bordered on insanity. Once she had made up her mind to do something, she rarely quit until it was done.
This isn't to say Asuka was without a softer side, though it was rarely seen. She had a tenderness for children, those who grew up in poverty, slaves, and those who had suffered at the hands of criminals. Asuka was not accustomed to showing this side of herself. When she did, she was noticeably awkward, so she did not like to make big displays of it. However, she was capable of at least showing a more mellow side to herself whenever she was in the company of friends or her former Master.
In battle, Asuka was usually remarkably calm for someone of her disposition, demonstrating the central Jedi traits of peace over emotion. However, she was not immune to the occasional display of arrogance in the face of victory or a foe in which she was clearly more skilled. She could also become more brutal and aggressive when pressed or backed into a corner. As a result, she practiced lightsaber styles that would enable her to vent her excess frustrations in a positive fashion.
Powers and abilities
Asuka's most prominent Jedi skill was her dueling capabilities. She was a Jar'Kai specialist and wielded her dual white lightsabers in the unconventional reverse-grip fashion—though she could also wield them in the traditional manner. Aiding her dueling prowess, Asuka was highly acrobatic. Her fighting style encouraged flips, Force-enhanced jumps, backpedals, and more, though the downside of this was that she tired rapidly if a duel prolonged itself. When possible, Asuka liked to psychologically mess with her opponents, whether this be through the use of stealth—appearing and then disappearing to psyche them out—or through traded barbs in battle.
As a Jedi, she was a trained pilot who could use the Force to enhance her piloting skills, though she was not fond of flying and loathed dogfights. She had moderate mechanical skills, enough to preform simple repairs on her ship, though anything significant would require a mechanic or a droid. She also knew a myriad of languages prominent in the Outer Rim due to years spent traveling the region with her Master. In normal conversation, however, she stuck to Galactic Basic, which she could speak with and without a Corvosian accent.
