This is the OOC for the above mentioned invasion thread for the purpose in this case of discussing the timing/dodging/hits of a series of attacks.

Morgan's right-hand blade, still well within Soren's lowered guard and pointing under his arm after only grazing his chest, suddenly extended from one to two meters as the Jedi moved to retreat from immediate striking range. Crimson plasma, now with nearly a meter out past Soren's body, flicked upwards to sever his weapon arm near the shoulder. It followed smoothly through by whipping down and right diagonally to burn wholly through Soren from right shoulder to left hip before retracting to a normal length, right arm coming back in toward his waist with blade on guard.

The strike came just after the thrust and well before Soren could edge around the Sith's right side or begin his chop, violently interrupting the Jedi's plans of a flank attack.

I've bolded the relevant sections. Soren's movement and attack were both interrupted by this new subsequence follow-up attack. His prior post's dodge only avoided the thrust, not the follow ups.

Thus it is something he has to address, as an interrupt, and the autohit is invalid.

So I can see where both sides on this are coming from so I’m going to try to elucidate some things to get everyone on the same page.

Raydo’s argument:
The attack is an auto hit based on the fact that besides the interrupt no defense was given. The interrupt is an invalid way of defending oneself because he is already out of the way of the slash based on his prior dodge backwards. Therefore, the attack against Stolas is undefended against and a hit.

My take based on my experience: It’s correct that interrupts that are prevented from taking place give rise to an opportunity for an auto hit. If the individual making the attack (Raydo in this case) is not prevented from completing their plan in any way, then it’s grounds for the attack landing. It’s a variant of an “obviously inadequate” defense. The onus is then to demonstrate based on the posts that the post of the defender is obviously inadequate. This is where the disagreement rests.

Mr. Teatime’s argument:
The extended blade adds additional length to the initial attack, keeping Soren in range of the strike. For this reason, if the defense is “the attack does not reach him” it would have to be justified by an additional dodge out of the length of the attack. Per Raydo’s post the blade is close enough that it’s still hitting his clothes and there’s not a whole lot else that I see in the post to justify being able to say “I am obviously out of range, this is an obvious mistake, therefore it justifies an auto hit.”

My take based on experience: This is a classic case of interrupts. Per the PvP guide: “Attacks that were originally written for the period after an interrupt must be "reaffirmed" in the subsequent posting round.” I.e. Soren is free to dodge backward from the swipe up, but would have to then reassert his attack as a new attempt. This is the core element of interrupts. Because it was an interrupt, for all Mr. Teatime knew, the attack would not even be followed through on per the PvP guide again: “Actions that you originally intended to do after the interrupt may still be changed..” Mr. Teatime is not allowed to assume that the attack originally written will actually be continued. To do so would be a violation of the rules.

Ok friends, here goes my thought process!

Morgan darted right and back with swift and balanced steps further away from Vahn to circle around toward Soren's left, intending to force the wounded Jedi to move around his companion before striking at him and keeping both Jedi in view. His right side would face Soren as he repositioned, left foot back. Soren moved in to thrust directly through the Sith's guard and a growl rumbled through the air from behind his dark visor.

"Such hypocrisy." It was merely truth.

Stolas' right-hand blade extended forward, leading with the hilt to parry the thrust leftwards using its lower half against Soren's upper half to knock it to the Sith's left and down, away from the Jedi's center line. His riposte manifested as part of the parry's motion, deflecting off it into a sharp forward-and-back thrust to pierce through the Jedi's right pectoral into his lung.

This is from two posts ago. Here we have Stolas' Ride side facing Soren. As Soren moves into a lunge, he is parried, and then Stolas counter-attacks in "Forward and Back" thurst. I take this to mean, he stabs forward AND pulls his saber back.

Soren's saber was deflected down and pulled away from his center. The following counter-attack was the obvious one but Soren had little space to move. As he dodged back and to the left, Stolas' blade grazed the right side of Soren's chest under his arm as Vahn attacked to Soren's right.

With Stolas' right side facing Soren and the Jedi Knight's leftward motion brought him around behind Stolas. He stepped forward, chopping down with his blade in front of him aiming at the center of Stolas.

@Mr. Teatime @The Steel Stag

Here, Stolas' counterattack is defended (Taking some minor damage) and at the end of that counterattack, Stoas has retracted his blade from under Soren's arm. Soren is still moving to the left as a part of this dodge and to set up his attack directed at Stolas' back.

The strike came just after the thrust
and well before Soren could edge around the Sith's right side or begin his chop, violently interrupting the Jedi's plans of a flank attack. Morgan was quite tired of the man's game of 'Ring Around the Sith Lord' and wanted it permanently done and over with.

Vahn's target had to be swung toward past the left-hand guard that still faced him. Morgan squared his hips forward and his right foot stepped back to once again swap sides from right to left foot forward. He rose his left-hand guard up in parry as his right arm whipped down and right. The blade twisted, tip dipped diagonally down as the weapon rose vertically up and forward to stop the cut short. Both blades would impact, red's lower section pushing against blue's upper end, crackling and flashing around chest level. Morgan's right foot hit the ground a moment later.

@The Steel Stag @Raydo

So here Soren is moving to his left around to the backside of Stolas. The blade extending doesn't mention anything about the blade moving horizontally at all which led me to believe Stolas is thrusting out and then back in. Then extending his saber and swiping upwards (with no horizontal movement until after the upward swing). If Soren is continually moving to the left, he would no longer be above Stolas' upwards swing.

Soren would still be moving to the left, behind Stolas which would carry him clear of the second attack (The only attack that mentionas horizontal movement)

Stolas' blade was moving backward as part of his initial thrust even as Soren was moving to the left. As the Sith Lord extended his blade and swiped upwards Soren's movement carried him clear from the blades path, singing his sleeve but leaving his flesh unharmed.

Stepping around the Sith Lord, his blade connected with man's back, cutting through his armor weave and biting deep into his flesh into his spinal cord.

Auto Hit written due to character already dodging out of the way of an attempted interupt and no other defense being taken against an attack written in previous post.

@Mr. Teatime @The Steel Stag

The Auto Hit was added becuase nothing Stolas did interrupt (Definition: Stop the continuous progress of an activity) actions Soren took in previous posts and becuase no other defense was added to the attack.
