That might be too much of a departure. Keep in mind that bending powers are how a lot of the world operates and propogates bending. There's only so far you can accelerate before technology replaces benders for doing msot stuff. If we take things into the future and make everything tech based, the reason for people to learn bending drops dramatically. We might even see a massive surge in what would have been equalist rhetoric, becoming the mainstream, while bending is all but outlawed in the "civilized" world as nothing but a dangerous martial art for a less civilized age.
As long as we are on the subject of "Bending vs Technology" I intended to make my character a non-bender, a descendant of minor Equalist members or sympathizers.

Actually I showed interest in this due to its lack of fantasy, although a gap could work cause, I assume we won't be making mention of actually character in the show right? So instead you could make up the avatars before you and use them as mentors?
Technically it would only be Korra, earth avatar, and the last fire avatar, considering Korra began a new age of the avatar. So, good luck Emily, I'll probably have said CS up tomorrow after school.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a modern day version of us in an avatar universe. Like technology is exactly as it is in real life. Earth benders doing construction. Fire benders being firemen. Things like that. Air planes, smart phones. All doable. Then just having some people be benders while others aren't. Maybe the benders are the middle class? That's a strange thought. Then the "avatar" would be almost pointless lol. But! It would leave room to have that Evil water nation idea where they wanna make things how they used to be. Assuming in this plane there are no nations just states and things. IDK. Me ranting.

Regardless, I will do whatever Phantom works with. I've got ideas for both the next Earth avatar or the Air one after the cycle comes back around. I'm so excited for this!

Yeah I actually also think this sounds fun.

In less than 100 years the avatar world went from late china tech to the 1920s america. Regardless of benders.

While many places would still be lacking in tech, we're looking at least the 1960s-1970s of tech. Cold war era.

I can drum up a few events to fill in the gap of time. The 4 nations becoming 4 redefined over time, with the earth kingdom fracturing into multiple new countries. The rise of different groups to power, such as the new equalists who want a segregated society between benders and non-benders, or the separatists who want their particular territories recognized as legitimate nations by the republic council. The rise of technology leading to the invention of firearms, whose projectiles are too fast to be bent fully except for the most skilled metal benders. The assassination of the air nations leader and great-grandson of avatar aang by earth nation radicals armed with these new firearms, who saw their nomadic way of life as a threat to their soveriengty, and sparked a massive anti-airbending movement which led to the eventual internment of airbenders to a reservation area in the southern earth kingdom, near republic city.

I would like this story to have a grey area. I like the concept of trying to return things to the past. I'd like this to be expanded, and made into something that could, when looking at the world, very possibly be a solution. Like, the world isn't at "war" with itself, but its tearing itself apart with a 1000 cuts. The avatar is needed now, more then ever, to keep benders and non-benders from destroying one another, and bring balance between the humans of the world, as well as the spirit world.

Gasp. I forgot abotu the spirit world! Humans and spirits mingle in republic city and in variosu places around the world. Like, that itself would effect a shit ton of humanities progress when it comes to making decisions. Oh man, that opens up a whole realm of possibilities with some welcoming spirits and others still wishing to see the spirit world and human world returned to its seperation.

hey @EmilyHuene what element are you planning on doing. I 'm considering doing earth if you are doing Air, Mostly so I can act like Toph, because seismic sense would be the best thing to teach you, especially in the world Crow thought up.

Ya i was gonna have an airbender similar to toph as well but have him be fully blind like her and use the airbenders version of that skill. Maybe if they both are blind they could woop some ppls ass together lol .....two blind guys beating the ass of multiple lookie loos.....kind of demeaning to them id think lol.

I would prefer to be air.
But as the avatar u gotta learn earth and that would still be an amazing skill and feat IF she learned to use both the air bender and earth bender versions of it. Nothing would escape her really if she felt movements not only in the ground but the air around her. She would almost be unstoppable in many ways.

I think it would be tough for us other than earth benders to combat said weapons of destruction. Which means our earbender buddy better be on their a game lol. I dont wanna die from bullets lol.

Dibs on the bottom one
If you steal that one i will do the younger guy, he will be blind too just not cover his eyes and his weapon will have four faces on it representing the four winds. And his little box will carry a copy of the airbending manuscripts and scrolls. (Which he stole from his grandfather because he became jealous of his sibling being recognized as the avatar so he 'had to become better') with a pet Eagle hawk.

seeing there is three airbenders including me caleb and emily, i think i shall opt out of said bending and create a waterbender who starts off working for @Black Noise and then eventually switches. I got some ideas for said character lol
