Avatar: The Last Avatar

Times had indeed changed. After the rule of Kuvira and her attack on Republic city, portals to the spirit realm were opened. Avatar Korra's time was spent trying to bring peace and stability between both the spirit and the non-spirit worlds together. Some cultures embraced the coming of the spirits, the Water Nation especially. Others feared them. The Earth kingdom, now broken up into a Democracy, spent most of that generation making rules and restrictions on how to deal with the spirits "invading" their homeland. They felt that industrailization was a key aspect to society and dealing with spirits tied so closely to nature would only hinder their progress. Peace rallys were held hoping to defend the spirits; Korra sided with them. This only angered the people against the spirits while they claimed the avatar had betrayed them. It was Republic city all over again.

Meanwhile, the Air nomads under the guidance of Jinora, desperately tried to reclaim peace and prosperity for the other nations. Korra could not be everywhere at once, so it was the Air Nations job to watch over the other cultures. In time they grew to form a Republic Guard, a task force created solely to help those in need. Sadly, some of the Air benders took their role to new expectations. They began to leave behind some of the older traditions and became greedy. They used their power to police and arrest criminals with violence. Their actions snowballed until they became their own military group. It was during this time that Avatar Korra passed away. With no one to stop them, the Republic Guard took further action to protect and serve its citizens. The Air nation it seemed was at war with the rest of the world.

However, some of the Air nomads did not wish to follow in this new way of live. Jinora's only daughter took with her the other nomads who wished to hold onto their heritage and fled to the Western Air temple to live their way of live in peace. They rejected the way of their Brothers who used their powers for violence. The Northen Air Temple which Tenzen had tried to recreate the loving Air nation only became a military base for the Republic Guard. The two temples could not have been more opposite. With the Sky Sisters seeking calm and tranquility the Air Brothers wished for peace through fear. Thankfully, there were still groups among them who agreed with both sides. They were not welcome at either establishment so they moved their efforts down to the Southern Air Temple. They tried to keep the old ways of peace while also conforming to the ever changing society.

Things did not change much with the next two Avatars. The Earth nation continued to grow and develop new technologies. With the birth and coming of the Earth Avatar the world calmed down once more. Korra's successor tried to bring peace to not only his people but also the rest of the world. Through his work the Four Nations themselves began to conform into one entity around the Earth kingdom, now called the Earth Republic. The Air benders were their armies and police. The Fire nation began to dwindle away as they had been cut off from the Earth Republic. On their own their cultures survived, but they were considered a third world country without access to the growing technology. Meanwhile, the Water nations both Northern and Southern began to grow with the spirits. Their cultures thrived together although on completely different parts of the world. Distance was not a factor when it came to family. And this is where things began to get dark.

With the death of the Earth Avatar it was then given to the Fire nation. Through the Fire Avatar the Fire Nation began to build itself back up with the rest of the world. They in time would integrate into the Earth Republic who would now become a new nation: Harmony. Benders, nonbenders, spirits, and everything in between were all equal. The world was at peace between the three cultures as they all embraced their differences. But the Water Nation as a whole refused to join into Harmony. The Northern tribe, so close to the Northen Air Base, fell into the diplomatic talks of joining so they too would join the alliance. All that was left was the Southern Water tribe, as well as the Western Sky Sisters.

The Southern Water tribe felt betrayed. They did not wish to join into one union. The Nations were meant to be kept separate for a reason. Only then could they truly live in peace. They felt that if people were all equal then the cultures which each Nation fought so hard to keep alive would simmer away until nothing remained. They began to plan.

Harmony was the new way of live. Harmony meant that everyone was equal. Benders used their powers for basic activities in their labor: construction, food service, etc. Nonbenders compensated with industrialization: heavy machines which could move the earth of its own accord. Cities were built into the once Earth Kingdom followed by roads and trains and other means of transportation. Airbenders and metal benders worked side by side to create tall buildings they called sky scrapers. These tall towers were a leap of great progress for all of mankind. So with all this movement forward...why would I ever want to learn how to fight?

These are the thoughts of the newest Avatar. Her name was Mei, an air nomad from the Southern tribe. She was fifteen when the White Lotus came to her and gave her the test. She passed with flying colors. How could she not? It was destiny. From then on she was given a full time tutor to teach her how to be an Avatar. His name was Koda. He was also her brother. For family, she loved him. But as a friend and a teacher she couldn't be more frustrated with him. Koda had left their family at a young age to join the Air Brothers. He was a glorified soldier and a powerful bender, despite the fact he was born blind. Koda drilled the sister again and again in the style of air bending until she got it right. Mei didn't mind learning the ways of her people, but she hated why she was learning them. The Avatar was meant to be a symbol of peace. So why was she learning to fight others?

The other elements came surprisingly easy. As a whole, she grasped the concept of each element with no effort. However, her mastery of each individual subject was lacking. In no means was Mei ever ready to take on a fully fledged bender of the trade no matter how many elements she could bring to the table. She simply wasn't a fighter. There was a reason for it though, one Mei hated to be reminded of. Like Korra, she lacked the ability to enter into her Avatar form. There was some mental block in her head which she could not push past. Maybe she was subconsciously afraid to have that connection with a generations of fighters and killers. Having that connection might very well change her into an Avatar she didn't want to be.

Today, Avatar Mei sat in the Harmony temple on what once was Air Temple Island. She had her cell phone in her lap and was scrolling through the recent Tidbit feeds. She liked reading about the latest Pro-Bending matches. That kind of fighting she could get into. It was all in good sport. But they still hadn't figured out a good way to introduce Air bending into the mix. A few leagues tried out their own games, but it never caught with the official Pro teams. Plus, there still weren't a lot of Air benders out there interested in that kind of thing. As a culture they were still building. It didn't help that half of them lived off in the West and secluded themselves from the rest of the world.

D.J. slammed into the water below the arena. Even when he water bended to cushion his fall... It still hurt. Maybe not physically, but emotionally. This was his team's 3rd loss this month; any more and they'd be out of a job. He sighed as he swam over to the elevator platform. What they really needed was a better earth bender. D.J. tried to teach the new guy what he could, but since D.J. was a water bender he really didn't listen to D.J. Even though D.J's father was one of the greatest Pro Bending Earth Benders in the world, it was hard to teach someone when you don't bend that element. When D.J. made his way out of the arena, he instinctively checked his phone. All the news channels were still on the fact the Southern Water Tribe still refused to join Harmony. Seriously, was it that big a deal! We'd had separate nations for a long time. As he scrolled through Tidbit he saw a post from Avatar Mei.

Koda stood atop the temple grounds, to what seemed to be overlooking the sea as it crashed against the island to an unsuspecting stranger. Koda was a gifted child when he was born, he was born without the sense of sight. To many they may call it more of a curse, but to koda it helped him cherish life on a whole new level.

Koda had a natural ability to feel the vibrations within the air surrounding him, using it to his advantage he was able to move about with ease. As his life progressed he learned early on he could use it to defend himself, even bend with said gift.

Mei; kodas sister, student, rival and the one he was deemed to protect.

Turning he wondered off, in search of the avatar on said island. In his opinion she lacked what was neccessary for success, and he whole heartedly doubted she would be up for the tasks that might come to hand.

"Avatar?"

Koda called, as he approached her breathing paterns

"Are you listening to me?!"

He raised his voice once more

"Mei! It is time to finish your daily chores!"

Koda grasping his staff he approached her tapping and rigorously rubbing her ribs with its sever end. Koda was pretty modern yet quit old school with his training methods but none the less he used them well.

As a boy growing up in an ever so changing world, he joined the militarized male nomads for many years learning the ways of the air clans, as well as their possible enemies that surround them; earth, water and fire. Though he could only bend Air he learned many ways to turn his defence into a devastating offense, and had various ways to counter a possible enemy benders assault.

The nomad returned home only to aid the avatar in her destiny....but not on his own accord or choice.......

Entra entered the temple to find Mei on her phone and Koda pestering her. She put her hand on her face, why was he so hard on her? She flicked her wrist, and a section of the floor turned to sand and wrapped around the staff, pulling it away from the girls ribs. "Koda, we talked about this, not physically hurting the avatar unless it is for training purposes," she said as she stepped up next to him. Gently poking him to let him know where she was. They were both blind, and both knew how to use their respective element's cheatcode around blindness. But, it was still a thing of courtesy to do when you are standing next to a blind man or woman, so you don't startle them. "But unfortunately, Mei, your brother is right, your training must continue, you never know when you might need it." With that, she grabbed the avatar's phone with the sand, and called it to her hand, placing it in her pocket, before walking out of the temple, a section of wall lowering to let her pass.

Báo couldn't believe it. In the midst of a heated (well, HE thought it was heated) game of Pai Sho, his opponent's rather ironically named Smart Phone went off, causing him to turn completely from the table to answer it. The stinger, it wasn't an important call or text, it was some non-descript social media post. Unbelievable. Looking around at the small band of gamblers that had formed around them, there wasn't anything else exciting to do apparently. a series of silent nods carried the message; game is over. Anyone who had bet on him moved away from the table with their earnings while the disgruntled losers closed in on the unwitting-online socialite.

"Moron."

Koda smirked as Entra lowered his staff to the floor. Regardless of his monklike background, Koda had always admired Entra, mostly from afar. Regardless of his age difference, the nomad had a hard time remaining upset or displeased around her. They had many things in common, mainly the physical aspect of sight.

Looking down to the ground as she poked his side the smirk on his face slowly dissipated, in attempts to hide it from possible onlookers.

"We must begin!"

Koda remarked as he looked up towards Mei once again. Turning around he begain to walk away but stopped in his tracks listening to a small radio that had been turned on by an elder.

All koda made from the sound was the news, reporting once again of the turmoil that began to buold stronger withing the earth kindom and the northern water tribes.....

Jin sat on the ground as he leaned against a tree, arms behind his head as he let out a contented sigh. Another day, another hard bit of work, and now his chance to relax a bit. The earth kingdom solider looked up at the blue sky with a smile, today's weather was absolutely beautiful, clear skies accross the board.

"Hey, we just got an alert from HQ. Avatar's at the Temple..." One of his commanders said as jin glanced in his direction, a bored look on his face, "And?" he asked back.

"And we have orders. Track down the avatar and detain them. Now come on, clean up crew wants us out of this area pronto." The man said as he turned around, army boots squelching on the wet grass as the blood from their current kills stained the ground.

Jin let out a sigh as he sat up, pushing off the ground with one knee as he reached down and picked up his own rifle, shouldering it as he cracked his neck and stepped over the half-burned bodies, swallowed into the earth and burned with lava in the open courtyard of the earth senators home. He walked over towards the entrance tunnel they had used as he turned around.

"Gotta say, we got lucky with this one. The suns hitting it just right." He said as he looked back tot he blood and bodies scattered among the courtyard, at the center being a large drawing of a lotus. The black lotus had done a good job establishing itself as a terror of the past. And now, it made a good scapegoat for the earth kingdom, or those who were still loyal to the earth kingdom, to strike out at this world.

Unity and Harmony, what a joke. Only the strong ruled this world. And if they wanted to keep the earth kingdom in charge, and make sure it would rise from the ashes to rule over a global kingdom, the avatar needed to make sure she didn't repeat the error her air benders and fellow avatars had made in the past, and mistake that her job was anything except helping the earth kingdom, and nobody else.

Mei's phone would flash with an alert and she'd open up the screen to see someone who'd 'like' her status. She smiled and then read the next alert that came up on her screen. She'd return the 'like' and then leave her own message right back at him.

"Avatar?...Are you listening to me?!...Mei! It is time to finish your daily chores!"

Mei could hear her brother coming around the walkway where she was sitting. He would come up and stand over her asking if she'd done her chores. Mei would give him her best smile and respond, "I......already did them." It was the classic mischief that belonged to every Avatar throughout time. But Koda say through her lies and began to poke her with his staff. "Hey! Knock it off!" She was then rescued by Entra who pulled the staff away from her ribs.

"Koda, we talked about this, not physically hurting the avatar unless it is for training purposes. But unfortunately, Mei, your brother is right, your training must continue, you never know when you might need it."

Entra would then use her sand a second time to steal Mei's phone which she tries to grasp out of the air as it was stolen, "Hey! Come on, Entra! No fair!"

"We must begin!"

Mei looked to Koda and gave him a look he couldn't see, though his experiences with her would be more than enough to feel her attitude. She would pout and get to her feet wishing she didn't have to be here training. She'd much rather be off enjoying herself.

Turning koda began to pace himself towards the archway out into the platform, inside the airbender could feel the presence of a dark entity building, outside their walls of comfort. Koda feared that it might be too late and the avatar might not be ready to do what she had to do.

Regardless of her being his sibling he knew she had a job to do and it must come first before all else. Even if it meant giving her life for society. As the bender was pondering on such dark thoughts, unwillingly he began to muster dark clouds overhead that slowly precipitated upon their island.

"We need to finish this..."

Koda muttered to himself in deep thought.

(Ooc sorry for the late and small post been caught up in dealing with RL stuff)

As the two entered into the temple, Mei sighed and watched the light slip out of her sight until there was nothing else but artificial LED. She hated being inside. It felt so fake. Nature was out there, not in here.

"We need to finish this..."

"Did you say something, brother?" she would ask looking over to him. She hadn't heard what he said, but she heard him mumble something. She didn't mean to ignore him; she would always give him the respect he deserved.
