Chalwaar in his comerades shifted once, and again, as the hours passed, silently jockeying with Vondar's squad for an advantageous position over the other.
And then something happened. Over the open channel, a voice hit.
"Movement, one-o'-clock!" Chalwaar instantly knew exactly where. The front door was twelve-o'-clock, so that put the movement directly opposite from his position - approximately seven-o'-clock.
"Light 'em up," came another voice.
Faint blaster discharges sounded over the headset. The threat was no more.
"More of 'em - four o'clock!"
Another blaster shot, closer this time. A moment passed.
"Holy shit, they're everywhere!"
And just like that, the night sky was filled with white stun bolts. Chalwaar barely had time to duck below his crate as three bolts ricocheted off the wall behind him. One glanced onto the floor no more then an inch away from his arm, sending pins and needles up and down. He swore to himself. With the ricochet thing, not even his cover near the wall was safe. Chalwaar chanced a peek around the crate. The member of the other squad lay prostrate on the floor behind the wall, unconscious. On the other side of the window, they were charging, while rooftop snipers provided covering fire.
With a savage bellow, Chalwaar braced his rifle on the crate and unloaded round, after round, after round, after round. The charging enemy dropped like flies.
Ptew! A well-placed sniper shot rendered Chalwaar's left arm unusable. Had he not rotated a few degrees to the left, it would have connected cleanly with his head. He swore violently to himself as he ducked back at the cover, glancing forlornly at his limp arm. Utterly useless!
Chalwaar knew the last thing he could do was stay put. The shouting on his headset was deafening; he didn't even bother to shout "I'm pinned down!" because it would drown in the sea of noise. So instead he broke from his cover, staying low and diving into a roll. He came up right to the left of the window, almost on top of the fallen member of the other squad.
Once again, he snuck a look out the window. He could see the whites of the eyes of the chargers, and the distant rooftops that held the snipers. He knew he couldn't hold out, but he refused to give up. He swung his rifle around and unloaded on the charging soldiers, but didn't stay exposed long enough for the snipers to get a fix.
Only then did Chalwaar bother to glance around. He was the ony soldier left standing in this part of the hall. Everyone else was either unconscious on the floor, or retreating. Chalwaar's position would be overrun in a matter of seconds, and there was nothing he could do. So Chalwaar did the smart thing. He cried in anger and dismay as he fell to the ground, stiff. He only hoped that when they overrun his position, they wouldn't see through his ruse.

(Sorry I took so long)

On the opposite side on the base, the soldiers fared better. Unfortunately better was running low on ammo. Abele was having an easy time in her own position. The assualt of her compound was going poorer than she'd hoped. An entire section of the base had been compromised by a rush. That meant that they would have to defend against the hole in their defenses wile still holding off the less aggressive enemies firing on them now. She shoved three soldiers to their new positions at the end of the hall that linked both sides of the base together. They could hold off the attackers until such a time that the enemy was exhausted, they were obviously not prepared for a long drawn out firefight.

"Conserve ammo. If any of my squad are still active on the other side, good luck." She hoped any of her soldiers on the overrun side were thinking straight enough to know how to hide or play dead. Their value later on would be great if they could get on the enemies six.

A foot tread hard on his chest, but Chalwaar took it silently. He waited until the sounds of footfalls on metal retreated into the distance before he dared look up. They were gone.
Chalwaar carefully pulled himself up into a crouching position as he keyed his handset. The voices had quieted considerably, and Chalwaar realized with a sinking feeling that this was because there were so much fewer people.
["This is Chalwaar,"] he grunted into his headset.
["They sustained heavy losses during the charge, but we've been overrun. I think I'm the only one still conscious."] Chalwaar glanced around nervously, before continuing.
["They've passed me by, and are approaching through the southwest hallway. What are your orders?"]

"Wait until they are stopped by the guys I have at the hall and take them out silently. I need you to not be caught. Alright?"

["Affirmative. Just tell them not to engage me. I'll begin shadowing right now. And, one last thing, there are rifles on the floor, over here. If you can get over here, you can use them for ammo."]

At that, Chalwaar took off at a low crouch, following the heels of the enemy squad. He silently thanked Bacca that it was his right arm that had the stud - his right arm that he would be knocking people out with.

The firefight outside was still raging. The defenders had a better position that kept the fire of the enemies off of them. On the enemies side there was considerably poorer cover, soldiers would have trouble being able to fire effectively from behind ill proportioned cover or being too exposed behind flimsy objects that were strewn about. Traps that had been set off to catch enemies were blindly stumbled into by those who set them.

Abele grabbed a new power cell from a new pile she had been hording. She'd downed enough soldiers to know that the enemy was now wary of rushing the compound again. "I think they're dying out. Keep it up, they'll have to stop soon enough."

Chalwaar silently tailed the attackers, his feet silently pawing in their footsteps.
And then he heard gunfire.
He knew it was time to act. His left arm still limp, Chalwaar pressed himself against the wall and glanced around the corner. There was the squad, firing down an intersecting hall. There was no cover, so they were using the corners. Chalwaar knew that the defenders had set up favorable cover, and that they had the advantage here. And besides, he decided it was too risky to sneak up on them, as there were no hiding spots in the hallway, and their backs were only halfway-turned.
It was then that Chalwaar heard movement down his curved hallway, down the bend. There were a lot of footsteps. He searched around frantically for a hiding spot and wound up throwing himself out the window, peering in from the nighttime landscape as a huge enemy squad marched past to provide reinforcements to the squad he was following. They were oblivious to him, but that was hardly any assurance. With the waves pounding his team from both sides, they would quickly buckle.
So Chalwaar waited until the squad was halfway down the hallway, he braced his gun on the window sill, and he opened fire.
The squad was caught in a bottleneck; there was no place to run, no place to hide, nothing to do but fire back. Chalwaar managed to drop a good portion of the men before they turned about and opened fire. Chalwaar ducked down as white stun bolts flashed out from the window, illuminating the night sky for a fleeting moment before sailing into the darkness.
Chalwaar turned about to face the muzzle of a blaster.
The man holding the blaster had the markings from the other squad. He grinned as his finger began to tighten around the trigger. But Chalwaar never let the trigger to be pulled enough. He knocked the gun to the side with his right arm, where it harmlessly discharged into his left arm. It was already numb to begin with.
Chalwaar simultaneously brought his right foot to the side of his knee to break the leg, but at the last moment remembered that this was a drill. A subtle change in the distribution and his foot instead connected with the back of his knee joing, sending him to a kneeling position. With his left leg he kneed the man solidly in the nose, from which blood began to floor as the man was propelled to the ground.
["You lose,"] he growled, before he picked up the dazed man's gun and shot him.
The whole affair had only lasted a couple seconds; hand-to-hand combat was meant to be fought at breakneck speeds.
A gun blast flying overhead reminded Chalwaar to keep his head down - the reinforcements hadn't forgotten about him, and were warning him not to try anything. So Chalwaar hunkered against the wall and keyed his headset.["Chalwaar here. 'Bout ten more hostiles are heading up the southern hall. There were more, but I took 'em out before they managed to return fire. I'm currently outside the compound, and my left arm's gone. What are your orders?"]

"Fall back. Find a safe place to hide, they're out of sync with each other now that you dropped a few. Don't stray too far though. I want you close enough to be in action when I call for you." Abele was now tot he point where she had abandoned her position and was supporting other positions as she went by.

She stopped a few times, she was trying to find a suitable place to slip out of the base and sneak around to link up with Chalwaar. Abele would need to create a hole in the perimeter the enemy had. Of course they could go through the part of the compound taken by the enemy, probably risk heavy losses and possibly the mission. She could not make any large risks at this time. She'd lost a number of men on that side of the base and she needed to get through to retrieve them.

"I'm moving out. Stay alive guys." Able ducked out a window and hit the ground on her belly. She crawled low against the wall of the compound. Had she not been as skilled as she was as moving stealthily she would have been shot in a moment. But, she was a highly skilled soldier and was able to sneak to a window where she slipped in after silently waiting for a moment.

Hitting the ground inside the window she found one of her soldiers incapacitated next to her. She checked his pulse and tapped his cheek. He stirred silently and realized where he was. "Lets move, I need you to go to the rest of the firing spots and recover our comrades. We're behind the enemy, we can catch them unawares.

Speaking into her comm she contacted Chal, "Chal meet us at your former firing lane. I'm here. We can get them from their flank." She heard comm traffic from around the base. There was much activity, most of it from the defenders at the hallway linking the two parts of the compound. The surprise attack would likely wipe them out and allow for reestablishment of control over the base.

["Acknowledged."]
And that was all Chalwaar needed to say. He crept off, and didn't stop until he came upon the position marched. The gunfire was increasingly distant, as the action had moved to the other side of the compound. He quietly passed eerily still hallways lined with incapacitated soldiers, stepping over one, and another, until finally he came to his superior.
["Here."]

She looked him over and noticed his arm hanging strangely, "What happened to your arm, soldier?" Her face hardened, she thought Chal was in good shape, instead he was very nearly down.

["Nothing. I lost it in the charge.] Chalwaar unconsciously angled his towering form so that his arm was less visible to the eyes of his superior. ["I don't need it to fight,"] he added on an afterthought.

"Keep trying to move it. It'll wake up soon enough." She crouched low and the others followed. "Now, they believe there is only one of us, that being Chalwaar. We can sue this to lure them into a trap and regain this position. Chal you are going to fire on the enemy and get them to attack you. I will go behind them and sabotage this. You," She pointed tot he soldier whom was not in her squad, "You will help Chal if he asks you. Otherwise stay hidden because they don't know about you yet."

Abele nodded and crept away. She wrapped a black cloth she brought with her around her face so only her eyes showed. She was nearly invisible i this night as she crept only feet away from the enemy soldiers firing down the hallway. One man had stepped away from the group to smoke. He was the first to go. Abele crept up on him and knocked him out with a swift punch to his temple and then cutting off his air supply with a grapple around his neck. she hid him in a dark corner where he would not be discovered.

"Begin." She ordered over the radio, her plan was falling into place.

Chalwaar and his ally sped into the halls, quietly moving to the position where he had so recently dived from the window. The squad that he had been exchanging fire with had moved up sufficiently that they were out of sight, but they were close. The blasterfire gave them away.
So Chalwaar moved up the now-empty hallway, which was cluttered with the unconscious forms of bodies which Chalwaar himself had incapacitated just a short while ago. ["Stay on my six,"] he hissed to his squad-mate, but the squadmate just shrugged.
Frak! He didn't speak the language! Chalwaar bit back his irritation.
Fortunately for him, however, there were some universal Republic signs for noisy battlefields, etc, that he learned, and he used the appropriate hand gesture. The man fell into place behind him, and they moved to the corner. Chalwaar glanced a peek around. Yep, there they were, hunkering down in a bunch of crates, exchanging fire with Chalwaar's team, who had erected a makeshift cover beforehand.
Chalwaar checked his power pack, and replaced it. ["Chalwaar, here,"] he said into his headset. ["I'm in position."]

"Good." Then from an angle towards the ceiling came a hail of shots that cut down the entire squad of enemies facing Chalwaar. "Clear." Came the voice over the mic. "Recover the downed and return to your positions! We need to resecure this location." Abele dropped from a large cabinet to the ground and motioned to the soldiers down the hall. They moved into the room and began checking the soldiers and bounding their hands.

Abele moved towards Chalwaar and patted him on the shoulder, "Good job, now get back to your position." She made sure the area was secure before her and another soldier from the other squad began securing weapons and the enemy soldiers, they were after all only hit with high powered stun guns.

Chalwaar nods and begins tying up the opposed squad with their own cloth and ropes, which he found vaguely ironic. He passed a few firefights, helped a few, and was pleased to know that things were actually going swimmingly. Perhaps one of the opposing officers was in that downed group? Anyway, that surprise attack was the biggest push of the opposing squad since the origional charge. Frankly, he doubted that they had enough manpower to last the next five minutes, let alone spring any attacks.
Finally, he reached his post. It was quiet. ["At my post. All clear over here."]

"It's over." She sighed through her mic. "Reinforcements are here." There was no sound yet, but in a moment the soldiers would appear everywhere. Out of every alleyway and door came the sound of friendly boots on dirt. The mission was over. The soldiers would soon be given first assignment and then off to their own lives.
