DESCRIPTION
The Basilisk war droid is an iconic symbol to Mandalorian Crusaders of old and new. Typically seen with their riders, armored Mandalorians riding them into battle, the droid is just as dangerous as their owners or even more so. With a limited AI implanted into the droid's interface, it mimics the same intelligence of a sentient animal. The droids will often develop special bonds with their riders because of this, Basilisk even known to howl in pain once their owner passes away. These war droids are heavily armored, typical of Mandalorian design as they are meant to withstand punishment with overlapping Duranium armor plates. They are practically impervious to small arms blaster-fire up to light laser cannons without much difficulty. While the droid itself is incredibly tough, the rider is still exposed and much more vulnerable on top.
The droid is able for continuous flight on its own with its thrusters after an overhaul to the engine and cooling system by MandalMotors for easier maneuverability and transport. While fairly slow on all of its appendages, the Basilisk has the ability to orient itself and reach high speeds while in free fall. The thrusters are able to guide and slow its descent with higher fine-tune control as well as make sharper turns. They are able to heave themselves and make jet-propelled leaps for more distance or to reach a target too. On the ground, it is carried and propelled by legs that make it slightly faster than a typical human sprint speed. In space and at high altitude, the Basilisk is equipped with a life support umbilical which can be connected to Mandalorian armor, allowing the rider not to rely on their own reserves.
Its armament is typical Mandalorian and lacks subtlety but makes up with firepower. Its main mode of attack is a pair of light laser cannons and a pair of rocket launchers for use against infantry and light vehicles. The large, durasteel claws on each foot can also be used to climb, grab, and tear through armored vehicles, infantry, or push/lift debris out of the way.
The most unique weapon on the Basilisk is its cluster of plasma cannons near the nose. These are often employed against fortified/armored enemies, and ships with comparable damage to three heavy canons if in standard firing mode, which is only useful for targets within 50 meters. Its secondary mode is a cutting mode that is designed to burn through starship hulls, armored vehicles, or sawing through structural foundations. This cutting mode is only useful within approximately 10 meters.
