DESCRIPTION
The Bellator-class dreadnought is a gigantic capital ship originally built by Kuat Drive Yards for the Galactic Empire. Designed as a "fast dreadnought," the Bellator was notable for its ability to match the acceleration of a standard Imperial-series star destroyer, an impressive feat for such a large ship. The ship's role in the line of battle was essentially to charge the enemy fleet and make holes in their formation, savaging enemy capital ships with its enormous firepower and causing them to scatter, allowing lesser star destroyers and other Imperial capital ships to move in and finish off the resulting isolated pockets.

The Bellator was well equipped for its roll, armed with a huge number of turbolaser cannons, point-defense lasers, ion cannons and concussion missiles. It had one of the best thrust-to-mass ratios of any Imperial capital ship, able to reach 60 MGLT, and impressive feat for a vessel over 7 kilometers long. The ship was crewed by 88,000 beings, and could carry some 28,000 passengers, plus 125,000 tons of cargo and consumables sufficient for 4 standard years in space.

The one of the preeminent anti-fleet capital ships of its day, the Bellator was something of a white ronto for the Imperial Navy during the Galactic Civil War, as the Rebel fleet seldom faced the Empire in the sort of conventional set piece battle for which the dreadnought was designed. Nevertheless, each Imperial sector command was allotted at least a handful of Bellators, and the type was primarily used as a command ship by high-ranking officers, being more of a prestige posting than an actual warship. In the few instances where Bellators were used as intended, however, they proved murderously effective, and were among the most feared Imperial ship classes among the Rebel fleet.

After the end of the Galactic Civil War, those Bellators that survived were mostly broken up for scrap by the victorious New Republic. A handful were retained for study by New Republic technical intelligence, after which they were distributed to museums or mothballed for long-term storage. Of those that were stored, it is said that a small number were reactivated in the wake of the Hosnian Cataclysm, operated by remnants of the New Republic Navy against the First Order, although their ultimate fate is unknown. In the present day, no Bellators are known to exist outside museum collections, although rumors of course persist of hidden New Republic depots where they can still be found.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Bellator-class dreadnoughts are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. By law and custom, vessels of this size and firepower may not be operated by civilians.

INTENT
To create a standard dreadnought, and to bring a ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Bellator-class dreadnoughts are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. The acquisition of such a ship by a faction must be thoroughly vetted by and coordinated with staff, and possession is subject to being revoked for any reason.
