Yavin 4 was a beautiful world that was for sure. Though something about its ancient secrets still haunted the old Knight Yvain. As such he spent much of his time outdoors, tending to his gardens and keeping a watchful eye over any of the younglings when they were out of lessons. Youth brought a smile to his face, when you were nearly three centuries old the sights and squeals of children always brightened your day. The old Jedi sat on one of the crumbling walls around the Temple that the Jedi Order called there home. A group of young children were playing in the distance, though they had gotten to close to the forest twice already and he had called after them.

Morning chores were done, the plants had been watered, trimmed were need be and the weeds removed. The evidence of this was on his dirt stained tunic. He should perhaps have made the effort to change, the Council had asked him to see to some of the training of a young Jedi Padawan and perhaps a good first impression would help the coming lessons flow easier. But Yvain did not like to lie to his students so why should he not show his true colours, even if they are just green and brown.

The Padawan was a Wookiee by the name of Wurfuhlla, Yvain assumed the Padawan had been sent to him as he understood the Wookiee language of Shyriiwook, a particularly difficult language to learn without good time and patience. Looking up at the sun, he should be here any time now if he was early, if not Yvain had a good outlook on the world to let the time move quickly.

Yavin IV, seemed that the Wookiee Padawan, Wurufhlla, just can't find his way off the planet. With his master gone he is being placed under the care of an old Jedi knight by the name of Yvain. This would make the third master that Wurfuhlla was placed under the care of. A bit disheartening to the Padawan but the last two have offered him much knowledge in their times with him. Maybe this new master will teach him something as well.

His first master, Nova (died on Dathomir), taught him courage and strength in lightsaber combat. His second master Vayla, had taught him the value of life. She had also had him trained in Soresu, on top of the Juyo Wurfuhlla had already known. Maybe there would be a good form of lightsaber combat within his training with Yvain. Maybe there could be more attunement with the force. Only time will tell after his training with the new master begins and ends.

As the Padawan had arrived to the place that the Council had informed him of going to he had taken notice of all the plants around. Yes, Yavin IV had a lot of flora already around, but these were brought in to a garden. Domesticated plants if you will. This was a bit new to the Wookiee, but to each their own. Wurfuhlla noticed the small green person and approached.

"I'm looking for Yvain, the Jedi Knight. I am Wurfuhlla, I am to be under his care for the final stages of my training."

The words were crystal to Wurfuhlla but that is only because he could speak Shyriiwook since birth. The Jedi Council informed the Padawan that his new master knew Shyriiwook. This was Wurfuhlla's way of trying to find the Jedi with much more ease.

"You can finish looking young Wurfuhlla." Yvain said, turning his head to look up at the giant Wookiee a big smile on his face. "Come, Come take a seat on the wall." The wall itself was pretty tall for the small Jedi Knight about twice his height which made it just about the perfect seating height for the Padawan. "Beautiful isn't it?" He asked pointing out at the small clearing beneath them were the younglings played. In the distance the endless trees of Yvain IV disappeared out into the horizon the odd temple breaking the uniformity of it.

"So tell my Wurfuhlla of your time with the Jedi anything interesting you have to tell old ears?"

A garden of younglings playing and enjoying being young kids. Wurfuhlla on the other hand was ready to train. The old master had told him to sit on the wall. There was room enough that the Wookiee could sit and listen to what the Jedi had to say. Simple words to understand. He spoke of the gardens. Of the children. Their innocence was blissful. The Wookiee enjoyed hearing their laughter. Then the Jedi asked, asked what stories Wurfuhlla had. There were plenty he supposed. Though, some hurt to remember. So the Wookiee would reply,

"I don't have a lot. I honestly just don't like to remember them. Some were good yes but the painful ones.. those get to me."

The past hurt. Wurfuhlla would face it when the time came, but for now as most young people do when they have a painful memory.. he just wanted to forget. He knew that it would be a learning experience but for now his focus was Knighthood. If he completed his training he would become a Knight. This was where his headspace was.

Yvain nodded along as the Wookiee spoke. Like most in the galaxy he had seen hard times and been through tough circumstances. But it did not benefit a Jedi to hide from ones past or tough memories for they could arise at a later date and not only harm yourself but other people. "You must not hide from your past young Wurfuhlla, to hide is to fear and fear is the path to the Dark Side."

The Jedi Knight gave the young one a broad smile, he was there to support the Wookie as he developed as both a Jedi and a living being, that was the whole point in him returning to the Jedi Order from his journeys upon the Outer Rim. To allow his almost three centuries of knowledge, the pain of feeling the Jedi Order almost extinguished worlds destroyed and Darkness overwhelm the galaxy had solidified his heart and soul against the Dark Side. "Please speak, let out that anguish, let it wash over you, this beautiful view and let it disappear off into the horizon."

As the little green one spoke, Wurfuhlla had nodded. He understood was was being said. The dark side was not the path he wanted to go. It was a dangerous feeling. The Wookiee had already experienced what the dark side could do. It was a raw strength that was forbidden to the Jedi. That must be why he was no longer under the care of his master Vayla.

"I had embraced the dark side once.. my master was in danger and I felt hatred for the beast. So I let myself go.. The chirodactyl is no more yes... but I had been weak and used the dark side. Only when I realized it was wrong is when I had come back to the light. I haven't used it since."

It was hard for Wurfuhlla to admit to this but he felt better about speaking it out. The Jedi next to him was right. Thus, Wurfuhlla had spoken it out into existence again and the weight of his past was lifted. Looking at the younglings and how they hadn't started their journey. Wurfuhlla had envied them, quite a lot. They still had a chance to make a difference in the world. Looking back to the Jedi to listen to their words he would pay close attention.

"Hmmm, it is not uncommon for a Jedi to feel such feelings. What is more important is that you understood what happened and have learned to live without the Darkness." He rested his small green hand on the Wookie's giant arm, he let the natural Force energy inside him flow outwards a calming essence flowing over the pair. It was more a gesture of kindness than something which was actually needed but you never knew if something like this was needed.

"What did you learn from this experience? Why did you think tapping into that power would save your master? And do you think the power you gained worth it? Was your masters life worth your potential fall?" These were all deep questions, meant to challenge the young Jedi's mind and view upon the galaxy and The Force.

The elder Jedi seemed to understand his feelings. He knew that it was not going to be the end of his time with the Jedi. To use this as a learning experience going forward is the thing to do at this moment. Was it wrong? Yes of course, but all people make mistakes. The Jedi Padawan will have so many more opportunities to show that he is good and pure of heart. The light side of the force flowed through him. Wurfuhlla could feel the warm feeling of the light side flowing around him. The aura was quite strong and yet easy on the body. Then the elder Jedi spoke. Responding Wurfuhlla would say,

"I don't condone the actions I did with the use of the dark side of the force, but my master's life has value. She taught me that all life has value and to try to solve the problems without the death of the living beings. In the situation I was in, I could have helped her without the dark side, but it was like I couldn't control it. I didn't willingly choose the dark side but the raw power that came... I couldn't stop myself in the moment. I learned what it felt like though. I know now how to prevent such actions."

Wurfuhlla looked to the Jedi and felt the hand on his arm. It was tiny. The Jedi was listening though, and knew more than Wurfuhlla so the Jedi Padawan would wait for the answer. Whether it was the response he liked or not it would be what the Wookiee needed to hear to keep moving. Whatever it may be, Wurfuhlla trusted that the Jedi Knight would steer him in the right direction.

Hmm, his thoughts on his Master were interesting, Yvain himself was still conflicted on the New Order's opinion on attachments, growing up being taught that it is a sin within the Order coming back to find it was now often encouraged did not sit well with the Old Knight. "If you had no control then, what would make things different now? Knowledge? Strength of Will? If Sith charged through that clearing." Yvain pointed down at the younglings before them both. "And attempted to kill all those who stood before them, what would you do? Would you use that power again to save their lives? Or would you let them perish?"

It was a challenging question, it would be one that many Jedi would have to face once out in the Galaxy alone and one that Wurfuhlla would have to answer correctly, less Yvain not think him yet worthy of advancing to the rank of Jedi Knight. The council had not only sent the Wookiee to him for training but also for Yvain to give his opinion on if he was ready to advance upon the path of the Jedi.

A simple question of this or that came to the Jedi Padawan from the Knight over what the Wookiee would do if Sith came to slaughter all in their wake. Either use the dark side again or let the others perish. The answer that most would say was the obvious former option. The latter is never the option. Wurfuhlla knew what the Jedi had expected for him to say. What the Padawan knew was there is always a way for the light to save others. Thus his answer would come after,

"Well.. neither. The dark side is forbidden. I refuse to use it again. The death of others, because I didn't save them? I could never forgive myself. I would defend them until I have rid the place of Sith or die trying. With only the light.. for that is the only true way to follow the path of the Jedi."

Wurfuhlla was confident in his answer. No it wasn't either of the options given, but it was the option that the Padawan Wookiee would choose. The light will be the only path Wurfuhlla chooses. Even if it costs him his life, he will never succumb to the dark side.

As expected Wurfuhlla gave a different answer than the two Yvain originally gave. That was half the point of the exercise for Jedi do not deal in absolutes. "A good answer, to die for ones beliefs is a good way to live ones life." He said with a smile looking out over the children and the view beyond. "But remember that you cannot save everyone, sometimes lives will be lost. In war and in peace not all life prevails, what you must learn to do is accept that and live the fullest life you can."

Yvain pushed himself up from his seated position to stand on the wall, even standing his head only just reached the bottom of the Wookiee's shoulder. "You must learn to accept that, that you as a Jedi may have to leave those in need to fight a greater fight. That the needs of the few sometimes outweigh the needs of the many. We once put all our faith in one man and that led to our downfall."

The wise words of the Jedi were good information to listen to. Yvain was right, Wurfuhlla would have to accept that saving everyone's life would not always be possible. It was a hard thing to accept but it was the truth and someone would be telling him this eventually. Luckily it wouldn't be in the situation of helping someone at the risk of his own life. Instead it was in a garden with a Jedi Knight from the days of the clones.

"I know, it's just in the moment.. things are different. Seen different."

The conversation growing more important as the Jedi Knight Yvain stood to speak with the Wookiee. The Knight was small, barely reaching the shoulders of Wurfuhlla while he sat. The words of Yvain were the more important thing to focus on though. He spoke of taking care of oneself before others, the likes of the Jedi before others. Then of the legend of Anakin Skywalker. The Jedi that had succumb to the powers of the dark side, killing the entirety of the Jedi Order. Wurfuhlla would never let himself do such a thing. The path of light was the only path, and this training would help him prove such a thing.

"I would never betray the Order. Whatever is best for the Jedi, and the people, is what I will do."

"Aye, but he did what he thought was best to. And he was to far gone before he realised what he was done. Take time, pause, do not over commit ones heart, mind or soul to one thing to much. Even the Jedi Order, remember that. For even though we are many and some of us old, we are not all seeing, all knowing and all powerful. To question is to be a Jedi." Some would consider what he said taboo, but Yvain was not concerned on the exact opinion the council had of him or his teaching methods.

"I would ask you one favour, not as a Master to an Apprentice, or a Knight to a Padawan, but as a Jedi to a Jedi. If you feel that anything, that anyone in the Order does does not feel right by you. Question it, seek counsel on it. Even me." The Jedi had to think for themselves now, to much centralised power within the Council could be there downfall, each Master, each Knight, each Jedi must be able to think and act upon their own accords. Otherwise the whole order was doomed to follow the same path again.

What the Jedi was telling him was good bits of information. To seek knowledge on things, to question things, is to be a true Jedi. A very simplified way of looking at things but it was true nonetheless. The words of a being that has been around as long he has should be enough for most anyone to take into consideration when the time comes to prove the worth of a Jedi.

"I understand what you're saying. It will take time for me to get to where I want to be. I know that the Jedi seek knowledge over everything so this is good to hear. Plus, I do know that I could never expect myself to be all powerful.. nor do I really want to be."

Wurfuhlla was happy to have this opportunity, and was hoping this next step could bring him up in ranks. His strength and mind set is good, but he needed to be more in tune with the force. His strength in the force was limited. This could be a good way to grow as a Jedi, and as a force user. The points from the little Jedi were enough to make Wurfuhlla believe in himself and in the training he was brought to Yvain for.

Yvain was happy with how that part of their conversation had ended, he hoped that the young Wookiee would be able to see things more clearly in the future and if he ever had doubt he would know where a good ear was if need be. Now onto more pressing matters, the Padawan was here to receive his final evaluation from the Jedi Knight before he took his trials. "Good, now tell me, your lightsaber training. How has it been? What have you learned?"

The little Jedi took a step back from the hulking brute, he was sure the creature would have apt when it came to physical combat, but he wanted to make sure that it was not just all brute force.

He had expected that one from a warrior culture such as the Wookiee's would already be neck deep into their styles and combat techniques before he finished his Padawan Learning. Wurfuhlla had already worked on a number of different forms, some more flowing than others, which was good, he should not relay on his inbuilt physical strength, that is what any opponant would expect. The strength should be a trump card not your opening hand.

"Well let us see some of this movement then. Can't have you sitting around all day can we." He gave the walking carpet a little push on the arm as if to guide him up. He would not draw his own saber this was an exhibition, the Wookiee would only be fighting the air around him.

The Knight acknowledged that he had given good answers to the questions. The first step to the training was concluded there. Now onto the training portion. The Wookiee listened to what the Jedi asked. The lightsaber combat he knew was mainly physical and the strength he had was doing great for himself but he also had shades of the force lined into the attacks, and defenses. Wurfuhlla would answer the Jedi Knight, Yvain with,

"I specialize in the Jar'kai variant of the forms of Shii-Cho, Soresu, and Djem-So."

Shii-Cho was the first form he was taught when he was undergoing his training. The next form was Djem-So as he was adapting to a more comfortable combat style. It flowed a lot more easily as he was using Jar'Kai. While he was training with Vayla he had learned Soresu by going to classes with Master Drow Venn. The form he was best with was Djem-So. It was more fluid with his abilities and agility.

The little Jedi listened to what he said about the forms he had learned. It seemed the Knight was happy to see variety in his forms. Fortunately Wurfuhlla was trained by multiple teachers so he had learned a good amount of combat training among other forms of training as well. Then the Jedi wanted to see some of the combat training that Wurfuhlla had. The only thing to do in this moment is to oblige and show some of what you know.

"Of course."

The Wookiee lifted himself up after a weak push on his arm. The little Jedi Knight seemed to be insistent on him doing this, so the Padawan walked forward to the open area in front of them. Making sure the younglings were clear of the area, he took a deep breath and pulled out his lightsaber hilts. They were not ignited yet. After a nod to the Knight he ignited the blades and took a defensive position in the form of Soresu with the Jar'kai variant.

Once the position was locked in, he then slowly moved to the form of Djem-So. After he had steadied his position he quickly began to move with fluidity with his strikes. Each one never stopping, always moving but his feet were in a powerful stance. In his past training he learned that with the combined power of the force, and himself that the constant movement of the blades were enough to keep the opponent from getting too close to him. He was also causing for whatever offense the opponent would take against him to be stopped. The defensive ability of this movement in this form suffice when facing same level and lower level opponents.

Yvain watched the Wookiee as he went about his drills, his form was good though sloppy at points though that might just be his physical attributes limiting his technique slightly. With time his knowledge and skill will improve and he will learn to adapt to his body far better. As he continued to move through his forms, Yvain called over to a pair of guards who were patrolling near by.

"Come here, come here." He said as they approached with their blasters held to one side. "Do me a favour, you see that young Wookiee over there. Shoot at him for me." The two guards looked confused and shocked. "Do an old man a favour please Burt." The older of the two guards had some run ins with Yvain in the past and knew that he was not one for the norm. So after a little pushing the from Burt the two guards began opening fire on the Wookiee. Lets see how his blaster defence is.

The young Wookiee was still going through his motions when he heard a blaster shot fire. It was like instinct alone, but unwilling. His blades swung directly towards the blaster fire. The laser coming in to attack the padawan was deflected and sent to the ground. What the hell was going on? The Wookiee was just supposed to be doing his form, this was unexpected. Immediately Wurfuhlla knew what kind of lesson this was going to be.

Fighting the best he could he was continuing his defensive flow of the sabers as he learned with the Soresu teachings from Master Drow Venn. Yes his form was that of a Padawan but in time it would become perfected. In the meantime, in this moment, Wurfuhlla was making sure he wouldn't be hit nor hit anyone else. Every deflection would be sent to the ground. He knew this was just training so returning the blaster fire at the two guards was not ideal.

This Knight had a certain way of teaching his students. A bit cruel and unexpected, though necessary. In the battle against others, no one plays fair. This was the perfect way to be trained.
