DESCRIPTION
The BR-23 Courier is a long-range troop transport designed and built by Republic Sienar Systems during the last days of the Clone Wars, shortly before the advent of the First Galactic Empire and the company's restructuring into Sienar Fleet Systems. Originally intended for sale to the Grand Army of the Republic, the BR-23 was built in vast numbers in anticipation of large orders for the war effort, only for the Empire to severely curtail its procurement of the type, with large capital ships being preferred for force projection rather than small, hyperspace capable shuttles.

The BR-23 is a simple craft, 20.7 meters in length with a crew of 2, plus space for up to 40 passengers and 40 tons of cargo. In its demilitarized state, the craft is armed with a pair of dual light laser turrets. It has a top speed of 50 MGLT, and is equipped with a class 2 hyperdrive.

Despite its failure as a military product, the BR-23 proved something of a postwar boon for Sienar; the vast majority of unsold stock was "civilianized" and sold on the open market, proving exceptionally popular with independent spacers and cut-rate spacelines. Prior to and during the Galactic Civil War, the Alliance to Restore the Republic made it policy to acquire BR-23s wherever and whenever possible, as they could be easily returned to their intended role with minor modifications. The type also proved exceptionally easy to maintain and modify.

In the present day, BR-23 Couriers are aging, but still decently useful craft. They remain the ship of choice for insurgencies and mercenaries the Galaxy over.

LEGALITY
Legal. Demilitarized transports such as the BR-23 Courier are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To bring s ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon.
