Fiach could clearly hear the voice of one of the Knight carry from where he stood. It didn’t sound like a typical Jedi, but she knew that playing a part was often necessary to achieve a mission. She’d had to befriend a planetary governor once and found the whole affair uncomfortable – but necessary. Not that she meant ‘affair’ in that sense…

She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, she was clearly losing focus on the task in hand!

In front of her, the assembled gathering were fixed on the Jedi’s words, and she was still – as far as she could tell – undetected by them. Then they moved and her hand instinctively went to the hilt of her saber, but she did not unclip it from her belt. As they moved, she was able to see the wider scene.

The Trandoshans had clearly decided to exit any confrontation. Of course, Fiach was still entirely unsure what had transpired, but she sensed the reptilian humanoids were not going to prove a threat.

If this was a positive, their movement allowed the focus of the remainder to break and she saw one of them steal a glance behind them and spot her. Would she be perceived as a threat? Gently, she moved her cloak so her saber was once again hidden – and she remained still, at present a bystander only.

Although somewhat recovered from the earlier mishap, Nykoria wasn't in her peak condition. So seeing a bunch of potentially hostile hunters made her nervous. But then, Max demonstrated his negotiation skills. As it turned out, he was good at more things than combat and intimidation. The "arrogant hunter" act looked so genuine, that Kori would've bought it—if it were'nt for the lack of the real anger behind the tough exterior.

To the Zeltron's surprise, the Trandoshans were convinced. The captured Zygerrian look in desperation, as the majority of his supposed "reinforcements" had turned away from him and walked off. "No, Rassk! That's not how it went! The Jedi... They used their tricks!" However, his pleas were left unanswered; apparently, the lizards had already disowned him.

However good Kori felt about the Zygerrian's humiliation, it was soon eclipsed by the shooting that took place before. The purple Jedi closed her eyes, a grimace of pain on her face indicated how she felt about that outcome. However, she could not interfere. Firstly, because she was still relatively weak from the ordeal, and wouldn't get there in time. And secondly, because the Jedi Order needed to get on good terms with the Trandoshans.

"Hey," the Zeltron addressed the remaining non-Trandoshan hunters, as she circled around Tabouil with one baton aimed at him the whole time. "We don't have any quarrel with you," she put on the brightest and friendliest smile she could muster. "And we really don't intend to harm your friend," that comment made even the captured Zygerrian tilt his head in surprise. "All we want to do is take him on a short trip with us," she winked to the hunters. "I figure everyone wins from that. We get some points, he loses some points, and you become relatively more respected. Nobody else gets hurt or killed. How does it sound?"

The four remaining hunters exchanged glances for a few moments... and then stepped aside. Whether it was Kori's appearance, persuasive skills, the rational,e or the pheromones that all Zeltrons allegedly gave off, the attempt at persuasion worked better than expected. Whatever plans of escape Tabouil had, they were seemingly foiled.

Max couldn't help himself.

"Well would you look at that - I'm not the only one with a way with words."

He laughed and it was clear that he was no longer angry or frustration or pretending to be either of those things either. Instead of holding onto them he had released them into the Force, letting go after experiencing them rather than letting them fester within himself.

Looking down at their Zygerrian captive, he thought about it for a moment before shrugging. Deactivating his saberstaff, he hid it away again before drawing his stun baton. The bounty hunter's eyes widened.

"Wait no!"

Max stunned the bounty hunter without a second thought before throwing him onto his own shoulder instead. He didn't really need to stun the bounty hunter but he also didn't want to risk him coming to in his ship and trying to get one over on him when he was distracted. Wandering the streets towards the port he eyed someone who felt alive in the Force.

Felt awake to it.

He waved at Fiach with a cheekily little grin.

"Hi! Might seem out of the blue but - did we go to the same academy?"

A quick way of seeing if someone was a jedi or not without making a big deal out of it. He didn't recognize her as a Jedi but he wasn't exactly social.

Fiach was still catching her breath when the situation went from significantly volatile to completely in control in a very short space of time. Aware she was not only late to the party, but contributed nothing to it, she felt a touch superfluous...but had been sent for a reason. Fortunately, she didn't do emotions, so didn't feel awkward or even embarrassed by her lack of input.

As the Jedi Knight stunned the Zygerrian, she sighed deeply, looking to cast the image of the Trandoshan's actions from her mind.

Wondering what to do next, she smiled as the male Jedi Knight approached and made conversation with her. She avoided bowing - unsure how 'under cover' the pair were - and simply nodded. "Yes, I believe so," she replied. "And always ready to help out an alumnus, although it appears you managed quite well without me." In truth, the trail of devastation they'd left suggested there had been more to it than a simple chat, but they seemed to have it all under control now. She therefore nodded to the Zeltron Knight. "Hi," she said, "my name is Fiach. Fiach Dubh."

The Zeltron just offered a rather confident smirk to her older colleague. "I figured that's been obvious ever since I picked a fight with our feline friend here," Nykoria exhaled through her nose with a chuckle. "Though at intimidation, you'll probably take the first prize."

A part of Kori enjoyed seeing the fear in the Zygerrians eyes, sensing his hope fading away... And then those emotions spiked just as Max was about to stun the hunter. All those senses sent the chills down the Zeltron's arms and spine. However, they were gone as quickly as they appeared. "Well, nighty night, kitty cat," she mumbled over the Zygerrian as Max picked him up. "At least I'm not the one to carry him."

The sudden appearance of another Jedi didn't go unnoticed. She nodded in response and offered a smile of her own. "I'm Nykoria Tallis. Friends call me Kori. And I sure am glad to have someone watching over us, regardless how well we've done. For a moment, things weren't looking too well." The Zeltron gestured to the carnage behind them, to illustrate just how bad things had gone. Then she turned her attention to Max: "So, I take it all that's left is to pay the Trandoshans a visit with our friend in tow?"

Yeah his intimidation had been useful but he didn't like the place it had come from. It was true that he had lost more than a few friends during recent years and had, in fact, lost Padawans because of the increasing hostilities toward Jedi. His anger at seeing Kori being taken out like that had come from a place of concern and love.

And it have become anger very quickly, very easily, and that concerned him on a higher level than he would like to admit to himself. It was something he was going to have to work on hard he supposed.

"Yes well I was hardly a role model of Knightly behaviors."
he admitted with a grimace, "The Council isn't going to like that part of my report I foresee... but they don't exactly approve of me half the time anyway."

The Jedi Council didn't disapprove of him and his methods either - they just tended to not like the fact that someone of his age was still very happy going around being an active Knight rather than focusing on achieving the rank of Master. It was something he would like to have but he could live without for now.

"Looks like we're all playing for the same team."
he joked a little bit, jostling the Zygerrian on his shoulder slightly, "Would you two lovely young ladies like to accompany me and our mutual friend to the home planet of the Trandoshans? We need to do some public shaming."

Fiach was not considered a cold-fish at the academy for no reason. She lacked social skills and although this did not bother her - she was more than happy to be a loner for the most part - she was acutely aware this could make missions awkward for others. Uncomfortable even. Her Master had done his best to broaden her knowledge and experience, but she was especially quiet around strangers. Not shy, just unsure what to say.

So, she tagged along, as opposed to joined the duo as they headed back to their ships. She was unsure how to dress the Zeltron - given Fiach saw and heard things literally and did not 'get' inference. She understood her name was Nykoria. But was the term Kori one she was encouraged to use, or warned off from using because they were not actually friends? Fiach made a mental note to use neither if she could help it.

Maxims seemed more straightforward, although she was still at a loss if his actions were all for show - but decided hers was not to reason why, and so pushed it to the back of her mind. For now.

Finally, she had a direct question to answer and let out a small sigh of relief. "Yes, I'd be delighted to continue the mission with you. I've never been to Trandosha and I'd like to see the mission through to the end - not that I've precisely added much to date."

The Zeltron just shrugged to Max's offer. It wasn't like she could say "No"; it was their mission. But there was one particular phrase that the Knight had said. The phrase that made Nykoria very uncomfortable with the notion. Public shaming. That was something that Kori had been on the receiving end of, prior to joining the Jedi Order. At the Coruscant law-enforcement academy, an incident made the Zeltron go from hero to zero in a matter of weeks. Not the most pleasant of experiences.

To think that the Zygerrian would have to go through something like that: losing his life's work, being despised by everyone who used to respect you... Nykoria had already sensed those undertones when Tabouil's so-called friends disowned him. The failed hunter was in for a lot more where that came from. And Nykoria would have to share that experience with him through Zeltron empathy... That was something that Kori was very apprehensive to.

Since Max had saved her freedom, dignity, and maybe even life, Kori figured she should at least be honest about it. "Ermmmm... Sure, I can go to Trandosha. I need to, in fact; got another mission there. But do I have to be around when you drag the kitty cat through the mud?" An awkward pause followed; Kori realized that she owed an explanation. "You see, I can feel what he feels. Emotionally, I mean. So if I stay around for the best part... Well, I'll know the guy deserves it, but I'll still feel like a wreck."

The mission had to be completed.

Not because he was a completion-ist or one of those types of people who couldn't leave a job half finished (though that was part of it), but because of what the mission represented. It was going to be what helped protect the Wookiee people against slavery or, at least, part of it.

It wasn't something he could leave half done.

"I'll travel with you gladly Fiach."
he agreed before holding up a hand when Kori tried to explain why she didn't want to go and be part of the shaming, cutting her off before her actual explanation, "Kori..."

He smiled.

It was a soft thing, an expression of kindness devoid of any pity or patronizing. No it was just an older man smiling at a younger woman, knowing that she had done her absolute best and that he was completely unwilling to ask anymore of her when it was clear it would hurt her to do so.

"It's alright." he assured her quietly, "Me and Fiach - we've got this. You've done wonderfully. You don't need to explain yourself, you've earned that."

Last posts guys - no need to do the actual showing the shaming

Kori's only reply to Max's words was a nod and a faint smile of relief. At least she wouldn't have to be present for the worst part. A part of her realized that it was a cop-out. As a Knight, she was supposed to see the mission through, and she knew what was at stake. But the Zeltron just couldn't help it. Deep down, she realized that it was something that she'd have to overcome eventually, if she ever were to reach the rank of Master. But right there and there, Kori was happy—despite the self-bashing that she was bound to go through on her way to Trandosha.

"Thanks, Max..." The Zeltron paused. "For everything... Well, I'd better get going. See you on Trandosha?" With that, she'd wave the two Jedi off with a smile and an awkwardly-timed two-finger salute. Then the Zeltron turned around and proceeded towards her ship. If the Jedi were to achieve their goal, there was more to be done.

Fiach wondered what it must be like to experience other’s emotions. Yes, she had some experience through the Force, but that was with animals and the impact was minimal – given it was invariably driven by basic needs: hunger, sleep, shelter and so on. As someone that hadn’t yet been able to access her own emotions, let alone others, she could only imagine what it was like.

So, she lacked empathy – but could offer sympathy, given it appeared to be a heavy cross to bear. Not that the Jedi Knight asked for – nor appeared to need – any. So Fiach simply filed the information away for review at a later date. Maybe, she mused, she might speak to Kori about the whole ‘emotions’ thing one day. But for now, she had a mission to at the very least support, if not be an active participant.

Maybe with Kori absent for the next step, Fiach might be relied upon to actually do something? Not that she was needy in any sense, just that she liked to contribute in some way. So she gave a subtle bow to the departing Knight and fell into step with Max.
