The footage cut into the studio with the banner "Breaking News" playing across the screen between the two news anchors. A Twi'lek man and a Nautolan woman sat behind the desk and even after years as news anchors, both looked shocked by what they were about to announce.

"In an unprecedented turn of events, there has been a mass secession from both the New Republic and the Free World's Alliance. After years of conflict with the Empire and months of intermittent conflict between the Republic and the FWA, planets across the Core and Inner Rim have announced their intention for mass-secession from their respective governments. These planets have asserted that they are tired of being dragged into wars on behalf of leaders who are out of touch with the desires of their people." the Nautolan woman began.

"Initial reports indicate that there are not even enough worlds left within their respective governments to shoulder the burden of maintaining such a broad and unified organization. I'll hand it over to Chuff Taneth to discuss. Chuff?" she said before motioning to the Twi'lek to take it away.

"Well, that's right Yannie. I'll tell you, it reminds me of the secession of the FWA planets during the war with the Empire. These groups joined in a defensive pact over a century ago, but in recent days that has been rife with problems. Now with another war looming on the horizon, FWA and Republic planets alike have just been asking "why?" Why another war? Why more conflict? Why provide our forces and resources to a war we don't want? After the Republic attacks on Commenor and Taanab many Republic worlds are wanting out of supplying troops to a war of aggression." he said, only now stopping to finally catch his breath.

"With all that planets that are leaving, I would even go so far as to say that the New Republic and Free World Alliance as we know it have ceased to exist. In the coming days I wouldn't be surprised to see historically prominent and wealthy powers like Hapes or even Coruscant and Kuat might try to ally individually with surrounding planets. Others may find themselves joining in with the ISC or perhaps even the Jedi or the Empire. I'll tell you, we haven't seen a change like this on the galactic political stage since the fall of the Galactic Empire." he said.

"It's difficult to swallow, Chuff, but I can tell you we'll be bringing you all the coverage in the coming days. For all your galactic political needs, I'm Yannie Garo."

And the footage cut to black. That was it, indeed the FWA and New Republic dissolved, effectively and de jure ceased to exist as the anchors said. What will happen in the aftermath will be... interesting.

  • What does this mean for my senator character?
    • Senators will still have significant influence over the planets they are on. Those who have achieved higher ranks (Consul, for instance) will still be able to have influence over nearby planets and will still be looked to by many of the surrounding planets for leadership.
  • What happens to the assets of the New Republic and Free World Alliance?
    • The assets acquired by the NR/FWA will return and be distributed to the individual planets. For the FWA this will not be significantly different from the current situation. For the NR it will also be a redistribution of assets to the various planets formerly within the NR.
  • What will happen to the galactic senate?
    • Planets that wish to remain in the galactic senate will still be able to maintain voting and representation within the galactic senate. Senators will still be allowed to represent their worlds within the GS if they desire to do so. Seats previously devoted to the FWA/NR will now be split up between the various independent systems in the galaxy.

The office was a buzz and no one at Systech Corporation quite knew what all of this meant for them. They were still trying to adjust to dozens of planets no longer using Imperial protocols, wavers and forms and flat-out tried to renegotiate previous medical adrenal deals. That entire business was a mess. It had been difficult to continue their business agreements during the first wave of sanctions against the Empire years ago, but then the blockades due to the Sith / ISC war had forced them to outright smuggle in the adrenals that could save lives. They could also enhance a soldier's abilities during combat, which is why they were banned, but the main focus -according to the advertisements from Systech- was always medical recovery.

Mik was watching the stock markets from his peripheral vision, but his focus was very much on the estimates for the upcoming galactic standard months. Renegotiating hundreds of contracts would cause a significant dent into their sales department. They'd have to hire more sentients, buy more droids and establish offices on individual planets instead of just a single one near a senate building. The investment alone would drop this month's numbers below the line..

"Try Julia Hipori again," Mik sighed, talking to the protocol droid that handled his comms unit. <Statement: Chief Public Relations Officer Julia Hipori is currently in a meeting.> the Chief Financial Officer sighed ever deeper and grabbed his datapad from the desk to type a message instead.

To: Julia Hipori <Chief Public Relations Officer Systech Corporation> (@Nor'baal)
Hey Julia. Numbers don't look good. That Imperial has my vote if he still wants to buy into the company. We need the liquidity.

An Imperial Commander from Taris had recently reached out to buy a considerable amount of shares into the company, but Mik had been on the fence about it. There had been stipulations. Only a certain portion of the shares would be bought in his own name and the others through shell companies with an origin in Hutt Space. There had been something fishy about it, but they really did need the credits right now.

Alfie didn't believe in coincidence- but this? There hadn't been any better timing than the end of two major intergalactic governments. Of course, it would be a race for the remaining organized bodies to see how many more planets could be baptized into their faction. Alfie saw a whole new vision on possibility. However, ambition with too much ego led to the end of such visions as the NR and FWA clearly presented.

Let the Gold Rush begin, I suppose. And may the sharpest mind win it all.

For what seemed like the millionth time, Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl sat in his office watching breaking news from the Holonet completely change the course of galactic history. Having just returned from an in-person meeting with his fellow FWA senators- discussing, among other things, ways to ensure the continued survival of the faction amidst the changing galactic landscape- the Wookiee was as stunned as anyone that the FWA and the New Republic had simply ceased to be. Decades of work- much of it a labor of love for the Wookiee and his allies- had vanished in one fell swoop.

How had he not known this was coming? As perhaps the most senior Senator in the FWA, Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl should've been aware of such an event long before it came to pass. And other prominent FWA senators, such as Victoria, Charlotte, and Rrodossk, didn't seem to have been aware of this either.

It just didn't make sense.

Worse still was that instead of facing down the daunting task of molding the FWA into a more cohesive and effective faction, capable of defending itself and sustaining its membership, Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl now faced the nearly impossible task of building a new alliance from scratch. The aged Wookiee suddenly felt very alone and very, very tired.

For all the criticisms leveled at the Free World's Alliance- that they were too disorganized, too uncivilized, and too individualistic to ever constitute a proper political faction- their presence as a faction had given them some measure of clout on the galactic stage. Slowly, painfully, he began to realize that while he could still call on nearby planets for aid, he was no longer Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl of the Free World's Alliance.

He was merely Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl of Kashyyyk.
