“Ladies and gentlemen, we have reports coming in of the shocking assassination of the Imperial Warmaster Darth Stafros,” A journalist’s voice rang out over panned shots over a military base in Dantooine, “Ballistic analysis thus far suggests this was the work of the notorious contract killer known by the moniker Basilisk. It is known the Basilisk only operates on paid jobs, so the mystery remains as to who ordered the hit and how any intelligence was supplied.”

“The Death of the Warmaster strikes a decisive blow against the Sith Empire and will slow the war machine and progress,”
The reporter continued, “There are also reports suggesting that the Basilisk may have also been behind the death of Emil Ro, though there has been no concrete supporting data on this just yet. The identities of both the Basilisk and the client that ordered the hit will be meticulously pursued as stated by the Imperial officers on the ground.”

“Dantooine has been the site of quite a bit of civil unrest with the Sith attempting to restore order and the consistent presence of the rebellion insurgency,”
The reporter said as the camera panned to more footage of Dantooine, “Travel is currently restricted and there are now lockdowns in place where only Sith and Imperial personnel are authorized to land. Now we will go to Empress Andruil for her thoughts on the assassination and the situation on Dantooine.”

Once again we see the truth come out from the Jedi Empire. They will stop at nothing to maintain their control. They hire professional assassins to murder our government officials... the same assassin hired to murder Emil Ro after he publicly exposed the Jedi's mental manipulation, she said. She let that sink in and let people connect the fact that the Jedi may well have been responsible for the assassination of the late-Chancellor.

But I come to you today to assure you, personally, that the Empire's resolve is unchanged. We will continue to bring security to our worlds. The terrorists at Dantooine will be brought to justice with renewed fervor. Take heart, citizens of the Empire: we are unbroken.

A statement quickly busted from the Jedi Order. “The Jedi Order does not employ bounty hunters or assassins. We had no involvement in the death of Darth Stafros. We stand against the Sith in the light and will never stoop to striking in the shadows."

Edin was long gone from Dantooine. He was currently in a hotel room in the Outer Rim watching Holonet while relaxing on a couch. His feet were propped up on the table in front of him. He had a packet of chips and a slushie with him. The Firrerreo was watching the news coverage of his last job, watching the camera pan over Dantooine before flashing to some blurry and low quality pictures of him in his armor. He popped a chip in his mouth as the Empress came on to say her piece. The Firrerreo watched this with amusement, slurping loudly from his blue slushie.

“Please,” He scoffed as she mentioned this being the work of the Jedi Empire, “Those hippies could never afford me..” Edin grinned as he continued to watch the footage, wondering where this would lead for him. Hopefully some new jobs.

Twilight had fallen over the city of Iziz, a distant sun setting in the west. Cassian sat alone on the couch in his apartment, the monitor turned to a breaking news story. News he had been expecting: the assassination of Darth Stafros. Basilisk was the first-rate assassin he had claimed to be, after all. It was a good thing, too, with the prices he charged.

This was one expense that would put a substantial dent in the Zeltron's secret, offworld bank accounts. There was no risk of the crypto transaction being traced back to him, but that wasn't what worried him— rather the reduction in readily available funds he possessed for the more... questionable side of his lifestyle.

Ah, well. The Zeltron at least hoped that the assassin would spend the first credit on an exquisite bottle of brandy or a single-vintage wine and not some child's drink.

Blue eyes drifted toward the chrono at his wrist. Princess Reyna would be arriving any minute now, and he had promised to take her out for a night on the town— dinner, dancing, and drinks. There was no hope of talking her into a quiet evening in his apartment with a home-cooked meal after that chicken curry disaster, so he finished tying his tie and reached for his jacket.

The death of the War Master had stunned many in the galaxy but few more than the Officer corps of the Empire. Darth Stafros had been somewhat more predictable than some in the high chain, but when one was gone that meant several things. First it meant an immediate power vacuum that had to be filled. Second it meant adaptation would be required on the part of everyone that wore the uniform. And Third it meant a change in strategy.

Every new superior implemented a strategy change. It was the way of the Imperial Military. No two had the same view.

Habrak's view was simple. The Empire's needs rested above all others. He would faithfully serve the next War Master, and go where he was bid.
