DESCRIPTION
The BV-898 Fighterpod pursuit speeder is an armed airspeeder manufactured by Blackwell Vehicles, a subsidiary of the venerable Blackwell Technologies corporation. Marketed primarily to law enforcement agencies on ecumenopoleis and other heavily urbanized worlds, who must contend with criminals operating armed airspeeders and other flying vehicles on a regular basis, the BV-898 is a simple, compact machine, meant to give many of the same benefits as a swoop bike or other small vehicle with the addition of an enclosed passenger cabin and a heavier armament.

The BV-898 Fighterpod consists of an egg-shaped fuselage enclosing an ejection seat and a set of flight controls, including a targeting computer linked to twin medium blaster cannons, allowing a degree of precision fire for disabling fleeing craft; Fighterpods are not intended to go up against starfighters or military-grade airspeeders, however. Top speed is a respectable 800 kph, faster than all but the hottest racing swoops and sport airspeeders, and maneuverability is excellent, enabling high-speed pursuit even in the close confines of high-density urban and industrial environments. Other equipment includes an integrated comlink and spotlight.

Notably, Fighterpods have no dedicated passenger space, and thus officers are not able to hold suspects inside the vehicle for transport. The craft is fitted with a rear-facing tractor beam, however, which can be used to tow other vehicles; common practice is to restrain a suspect inside or astride their own disabled vehicle and then tow them back to the station. The tractor beam can also be used to force stops.

Due to the single-seat nature of the Fighterpod's design, they are usually deployed in pairs when out on patrol. Due to their egg-shaped design, a larger group of these craft is derisively referred to as a "carton".

LEGALITY
Restricted. BV-898 Fighterpods are combat craft, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a light combat airspeeder.
