CANTONICA
Coordinates‣R3

Hyperlane‣ Hydian Way
Rotation‣ 27 Hours
Exports‣ Gambling & Tourism
Satellites‣ 2 Moons

  • A mountainous desert covers the majority of its surface, interrupted by the galaxy’s largest artificial ocean: the Sea of Cantonica.

It was once a quiet, dusty world dotted with ancient cities and ruins from a civilization that few remembered. The deserts became a place for criminals to lie low or ply side hustles, and contained smugglers' hideouts and quiet crooks' bars. Eventually, the casino city of Canto Bight was built, transforming the planet into a playground for the wealthy.

The climate is mostly temperate within the city, and dry and hot outside its borders. Due to leakage and evaporation from the artificial sea, the lower levels of the city are humid and damp.

The skies of Canto Bight are notably beautiful, with a multicolored nebula visible from the surface of the planet, as well as famous purple sunsets over the sea.

Cantonica is home to invasive Sand Mynock and several native atmosphere-dwelling invertebrates. The city of Canto Bight hosts innumerable immigrated sentient species, as well as many imported domesticated creatures. The latter are usually those associated with the upper class, such as fathier, jekoon, and sheffi.

In general, the technology of this planet is highly advanced, on par with most Core Worlds due to the constant influx of luxury imports.

  • "You know what I spend most of my time doing? Protecting special people. Making sure they get to do whatever weirdo escapades they want to do, without them getting hurt. That's what we do at CBPD! Make sure the special people and the beautiful people stay safe and happy and spending money."— Canto Bight Police Officer

Cantonica, in particular its capital city of Canto Bight, is well known for its egregious wealth gap and high degree of corruption. The planet is a hotspot for rich tourists, eccentric gamblers, and other pretentious clientele.

The city has a notable amount of diversity, rivaling even Coruscant, with countless sentient species mingling freely.

As Cantonica is within the Corporate Sector of the galaxy’s Outer Rim Territories, it is governed as a fiefdom, in which individual corporations are free to govern their own territory.

The city as a whole is under the jurisdiction of the Canto Bight Police Department. The CBPD is broken into the Uniformed Branch and the Canto Bight Mounted Police (CBMP). The Uniformed Branch has the most public visibility, and serves as a visible deterrent to petty crime and thievery. The CBMP operate lightweight GB-134 pursuit craft, also known as jet-sticks, to navigate the narrow roadways of the Old Town.

The CBPD is notoriously corrupt. Every law and regulation in the city is negotiable, depending on the wealth of the suspect or the accuser. As such, the CBPD is both a byproduct and aide in the city's tiered society, with the wealthiest having the greatest sense of security and immediate access to justice—a flexible concept in Canto Bight. As long as transgressions do not disturb the resort city's relaxing atmosphere, or cross any unspoken rules, much is ignored.

While the CBPD is corrupt, it is not ineffective. Public safety is taken very seriously, and the veneer of the coastal city is carefully and expensively maintained. Property crime is not tolerated, and offenses such as vandalism and littering are punished with greater severity on Cantonica than on most other planets. Trials are held for offenders at the convince of the magistrate.

Due to the ultra-wealthy environment CBPD officers operate in, hospitality training is included as part of CBPD academy curriculum, as keeping guests content is key to keeping them docile. Police are trained to subdue and arrest without resorting to lethal force, all in an effort to maintain the confidence and comfort of the public. The slightest injury suffered by a bystander or suspect can have costly legal and public-relations repercussions.

Police uniforms feature a betaplast armored collar for protection and a fineweave cape. Rank is displayed on a pin attached to the collar of duty uniforms. Helmets feature a high-impact betaplast neck guard. Holographic department letters written in Aurebesh are attached to the front of officer helmets, and can reverse for rearview mirror legibility.

Officers are well-equipped with non-lethal weaponry and equipment. Weapons include the Relby K-25 blaster in its rifle configuration, the Relby K-25 blaster in its default configuration to serve as a sidearm, and a Relby K-25 blaster in its heavy configuration, which features a long-range microscope and a noise suppression and range-extending barrel attachment. Such blaster weaponry is set to stun by default. Since weapons are prohibited in public areas, firefights in Canto Bight are rare.

In addition to blasters, police carry electro-shock prods to disable targets with ease. They also have access to glow rods, which can double as a crude baton, and features a multi-spectrum illuminator array for crime scene investigation. Officers carry a single short-range wrist comlink and scrambled long-range comlink on their belts.

The Canto Casino and Racetrack, also known simply as the Canto Casino, is made up of a casino known as the Crescent Royale Casino, other casinos, a racetrack, a luxury hotel, a shopping concourse, and twenty-two restaurants.

Primary intent is to use Canto Bight as a setting for smuggling, information brokerage, auctions, espionage, etc; as well as to bring a really cool canon location to the site canon. As much as I don’t love the sequels, the Canto Bight location is absolutely spectacular and would make a great backdrop for a variety of plots and characters.

Hey there sorry for the delay in reviewing this write-up.

So just an FYI, you can already do this on the planet no write-up needed. you can already roleplay on this planet and the canonical information about it on wookipedia is applicable here.

Anyways, I feel feel this write-up really doesn't do much to expand on the planet, and I can also see there is quite a bit of copy+paste from wookiepedia at a glance. So since the write-up seems redundant in light of this and this planet is an occasional subject of new Star Wars media (comics, novels .etc) I wouldn't want to lock us into this one write-up.

If you want @Fish I can go ahead and archive this. Again, you can already roleplay the planet and use it as a setting for the things i quoted above.

@The Good Doctor
Makes sense, thank you for the explanation! It’s been years since I was last writing here, so I wasn’t sure about using newer content. The only reason I wrote this was because I didn’t see it on the site Atlas. Please archive at your convenience!
