Casmir Travaran was a Human male born on the volatile world of Jabiim, in the long aftermath of the time when it had been under the influential control of the First Order. An orphan while still an infant, Casmir was raised in the midst of a violent and irregular planetary conflict known as the Faction Wars. A born-refugee, Casmir spent much of his early life on the move, migrating from one warzone to another in attempts by many masses to escape the warring factions by seeking out old Imperial outposts to serve as bastions. It was during one of these migrations that Casmir found himself a survivor of the Adyron Plains Massacre, where the Jabiimi armed forces gunned down several thousand refugees that were traversing too close to Zone 11-23DC. It was in the midst of this slaughter that conditions descended even further, as Casmir and the surviving refugees suddenly found themselves in a brutal crossfire with a rogue faction and the Jabiimi armed forces, with the former attacking the latter after having left the refugees unmolested along their migration, using their presence to take the Jabiimi armed forces by surprise.

Although not widely known at the time, the First Order had indeed undergone a collapse many decades ago, which had resulted in suspended contact with them. Many factions that felt they had been forced into civil war by an apathetic government had begun rising up and seeking out Imperial sites to plunder. The Greater Avesta Union, one of the larger rogue factions, was the group responsible, and Casmir survived the battle only due to being pinned down under the bodies of the fallen. Casmir remained trapped in the Adyron Plains until his unconscious body was found by Dedivan Travis.

At this time, Casmir was only six standard years of age, and was given medical attention by Travis for incurred wounds. It was at that time that Casmir was told that the First Order, the very people Casmir was being brought to for protection, were the ones responsible for Jabiim being such a horrific place, and the reason he had no parents. The weak Jabiimi government allowed their world to be plundered and their people to live powerlessly, like animals fighting against each other for scraps. That everyone around them were enemies; all other factions simply fought to claim wealth for themselves, but that the Union sought to make Jabiim better, free and independent from the headless First Order and the soulless corporate hounds that stripped their world of its beauty and worth. At the time, Casmir understood little, but followed the ideology as best he could. However it happened, he had someone that looked to him as he imagined a friend would and gave him comfort.

As Casmir grew, he soon began taking an active role in the Second Jabiimi Riots, acting as a scout, spy and messenger for ambushes and assassinations. By the time Casmir was nine standard years old, he was given a helmet and rifle and was inaugurated as a Unionist after following the order to make his first kill; executing a blindfolded and gagged solider that was outfitted as a Stormtrooper, "the enemy". From that point forward, Casmir had become increasingly dependent upon and ingratiated to the Greater Avesta Union, and particularly to Travis, who had formed into a father figure for Casmir, and Poloc Garan, who to Casmir had become a cult of personality, as well as to many others within the Union. While still largely used for reconnaissance and sabotage, Casmir came to more directly be taken under the wing of Dedivan Travis, who then trained Casmir to become a sniper.

After roughly half a decade, Casmir had been trained by Travis into becoming a full sniper. By the time of his reaching the age of fourteen standard galactic years, Casmir was put in the role of a manhunter. Still considered too young to fight on the front lines, he'd nonetheless participated in some measure in several battles and engagements, including the Bloodbath at Galthan Coasts, the Parrad Canyon Bombings, the Siege of Six Fronts, and the Sacking of New Brakka. However, as the riots dragged on, the actual outbreak of battles became less and less frequent as the effects of Jabiim being largely cut off from the rest of the galaxy, without aid from either the Empire or its successor state, began to take its toll. Mass starvation, diseases and depopulation saw the Jabiimi people decline a slow death.

As the worldwide situation on Jabiim grew increasingly dire and desperate, morale among the many factions saw steep declination, and the Greater Avesta Union was no exception. In contrast to many, Casmir came to better define and understand himself better during this time, as his upbringing emboldened his devotion to the Union and Garan. This deep-rooted loyalty became firmest when Casmir was tasked with the discovery and execution of the traitor, Aruis Kajovic. During this pseudo-civil war, word finally reached the Union of the collapse of Choal's dome, and Garan mobilized the majority of the faction's forces to take the city, or at least hold it long enough for them to seize the old First Order ships nestled at the starport.

By the time Casmir had arrived, having moved ahead to scout the dangers of the path, the ground was scorched several kilometers from the city's boundaries and the air was thick with scorched carbon and dust. As he got within sight of the walls around the capital, bodies, in whole as well as in part, littered the ground as entire portions of the city bore fires hot enough to burn amidst the rainfall. When the majority of the Union's forces had arrived, forcing their own way into the city, Casmir was ordered to a high position in a bombed out marketplace, tasked with protecting Garan by seeking out and eliminating other manhunters that might have been stationed in regions near to where the Union was fortifying themselves. Entire city blocks were utterly covered with carcasses, and in little more than a week, illnesses broke out in great number. The Union itself became deadlocked with two other rival factions while also fending off newly arrived factions that had hoped to penetrate through the city's weakened occupiers.

At twenty years of age, Casmir fought in the Choal Blitz for almost three months and managed to avoid the diseases spreading throughout city. However, during one engagement, Casmir fell victim to an Agent-E701 strike, and was forced out of the fighting and bedridden. Although unconscious for much of the two weeks that followed, Casmir was alert enough to notice the hysteria that had affected those around him and the emergence of strangely attired soldiers into the bunker.

When the New Republic arrived on Jabiim, it was thought to have marked the end of an era. Much of the population strongly distrusted the New Republic and their interests, but welcomed the relief aid and supplies they brought with them. What followed in the years to come was a nightmarish political storm as tribunals were established for prosecuting those that were accused or suspected of being war criminals for the decades that Jabiim had been subservient to the First Order, but Casmir never saw it. With the facilities on Jabiim being considered too substandard, Casmir was moved to a medical facility within the New Republic, where he discovered he had developed Duplar's Syndrome.

Casmir was treated on a medical frigate for several weeks as the New Republic ship made its way back to the Core Worlds, but all that occupied him during that time was resentment and bitterness, made worse by the fact that if the New Republic had come just two weeks, or even one week sooner, he might not have been resigned to a slow death. In the place of his brown eyes were eerily green irises, with tired, sickly-looking rings, as if he'd been awake for years. Very closely, he could see a dim glow at the veins around his temples. After months of examination, it had been reaffirmed that Casmir's condition was incurable and irreversible, and he was invited to have free passage back to Jabiim, which had been said to be recovering. Disillusioned and disinterested, then received news that several Jabiimi leaders that were now considered war criminals had escaped Jabiim and were on the run. With nothing left but vindictive spite and a sea of bitterness, Casmir decided to return to doing what he'd done best, but with the goal of bringing as many of his own people down as he could.

PERSONALITY

N6xctBv.png
Casmir Travaran could very well be defined as a bitter, resentful and angry individual, even if he takes care not to display it to those around him. Although shaped by his experiences in life, it was the news of his illness four years ago that came to ultimately define him and solidify some of his more radical ideals. In spite of the New Republic likely being the reason he was still alive, Casmir hates the institution and keeps from Republic space when he can. Indeed, as a remnant of his upbringing, Casmir is an anarchist at heart and dislikes government as a whole. Casmir also hates his own people, who he sees as also being the case for his condition, and goes out of his way to hunt Jabiimi when available.

[gfont=Marvel][float_right]“They say when the Emperor died over Endor the galaxy let out a cheer across a thousand worlds. But Jabiim… on Jabiim, the Empire's shadow never left. Neither did the First Order's. The Faction Wars got worse, the corporations became nations, and the endless morasses became battlefields. And so, we were soldiers, all of us. Because the war never ended here, not really. A long dead emperor means nothing, less than nothing, if it changes nothing.

I can still taste the rain on that night. My heart felt like it was going to shatter my bones and burst from my chest. I was so scared I couldn't move, I could barely feel my arms or legs. Dedivan's arm grasped my shoulder and Poloc gave the order. I never knew his name, what he had done, if he actually had done anything, but it didn't matter. And in truth, I didn't care. My life was pain, I'd seen enough death by the time I was nine till I fall to the grave. I think I was crying. Shivering, but no gasping, I just let it flow.

The blaster was heavy, so much heavier than I thought it would be. The helmet was too, and sat too far down my brow. And the uniform... it was the smallest Teylasis could find, but it still was many sizes too large. But I wore it every day I could. I wore it that day, when I saw the enemy blindfolded and shaking in fear. Clad in that terrible white, but beneath his helm, just another man. A man that left me with a life barely worth living, made me powerless, alone and abandoned. Then, there he was, more alone than I, more abandoned than I. More powerless.

So I fired. And I fired, and I fired and I fired. I missed a great deal, I know that now. In fact, I knew it then. But I had hit him, the enemy. A stateless Stormtrooper? No, of course not... but that armor, it made the hate easier. His face was charred and burnt so heavily no one could ever recognize him. His armor, so white and sleek, was cracked and shattered apart across his chest. It was moments later that I heard them behind me, cheering, then hugging me. My first kill, such as it was. And it wouldn't be my last.”[/float_right][/gfont]

[gfont=Rationale][abbr=Casmir Travaran had been an orphan since his earliest memories, and had no name to his memory. The name he would eventually take was based on the original worker settlement he was believed to have been a refugee from; the Casmir district, while he took the surname Travaran as a portmanteau of two of his mentors surnames, "Dedivan Travis" and "Poloc Garan".]Casmir Travaran[/abbr] was a Human male born on the volatile world of Jabiim, in the long aftermath of the time when it had been long under the influential control of the First Order. A born-refugee, Casmir spent much of his early life on the move, migrating from one warzone to another in attempts by many masses to escape the [abbr=Faction Wars, Part II: Due to governmental corruption, Jabiim's relative freedom to self-govern led to many industrial conglomerates subservient to the Galactic Empire establishing outposts on Jabiim, where they effective governed as independent states. With a lack of Imperial oversight and increasing dependence on company contracts, many Jabiimi organized themselves into factions aligned with the companies they worked for, defending mining zones from being exploited by competitive conglomerates.]warring factions[/abbr] by [abbr=Faction Wars, Part III: Although technically under the jurisdictional oversight of the Galactic Empire, due to Jabiim's close proximity to Hutt Space, location on the Triellus Trade Route, abundant natural resources and unstable atmospheric electrical fields and ionic storms, the Empire's presence on-world was minimal. Jabiim was thus allowed a greater degree of autonomy, provided the Jabiimi government continue to meet the Empire's tribute quotas. This made the few Imperial sites on Jabiim "safe zones".]seeking out old Imperial outposts to serve as bastions[/abbr]. It was during one of these migrations that Casmir found himself a survivor of the [abbr=Faction Wars, Part IV: Although non-interventional toward the corporate factions, the Jabiimi government actively used force to prevent migrant refugees from reaching Imperial sites. The fear was that masses of refugees would potentially disrupt shipments or otherwise irritate the Empire, inciting them to take a more active role on Jabiim to ensure stability, or even garrison the planet. The Jabiimi government often used lethal force on refugee groups that refused keep away from Imperial zones.]Adyron Plains Massacre[/abbr], where the Jabiimi armed forces gunned down several thousand refugees that were traversing too close to [abbr=Exposition: Zone 11-23DC; an Imperial extraction site. Raw resources and materials mined from Jabiim were transported to such sites for Imperial cargo shuttles to load and ship to Imperial refineries elsewhere in the galaxy. Most of the Empire's, and later First Order's, presence on Jabiim was through such sites, and the Jabiimi government "protected" routes to these sites jealously.]Zone 11-23DC[/abbr]. It was in the midst of this slaughter that conditions descended even further, as Casmir and the surviving refugees suddenly found themselves in a brutal crossfire with a [abbr=Faction Wars, Part V: Jabiim's entire economic survival came to depend on industrial mining operations. Due to limited Imperial contracts, competition for mining rights became increasingly hostile. Many factions that felt they had been forced into [abbr=Faction Wars, Part VI: Provided quotas were met, neither the Empire nor the First Order intervened in "domestic matters" on Jabiim, which enabled the war's escalation where faction-sponsored companies openly warred against one another for resources and government contracts. Indeed, when the Rebel victory at Endor became widely known on Jabiim, it actually made the situation worse, as many indignant Jabiimites, frustrated and embittered at their dependence on the Empire, launched a series of semi-organized attacks on Imperial centers across the planet. These became known as the First Jabiimi Riots.]Jabiimi Riots[/abbr], acting as a scout, spy and messenger for ambushes and assassinations. [gfont=Marvel][float_right]“Things were bad, and no one saw it coming. Jabiim was utterly spent, and everyone knew it. The violence had calmed; there was literally nothing worth fighting over anymore. Nothing worth taking, nothing worth having. Everyone was starving, and Jabiim was too scarred to bear crops. Food became more precious than aurodium. Credits were worthless. The electrical ionic storms had become worse than ever. No one could leave or even had reliable communications off-world, and given how conditions were, Jabiim had gone from being our home to being our tomb. I ask you now, if you were drowning among the many, starving among many... when the dark is closing in on you and there's no way out of a slow, grueling death... and then suddenly, there was. How fiercely would you fight for that light? How desperate would you be to stand atop the bones of your brother to gasp even just a breath more of that air, or a morsel of food?

Jabiim had long been a failed state, a failed world, long before the Choal Blitz. Choal just bore the ugliness there for ourselves to see. Because Choal was the jewel. The bastion of where all worries and fears burned away. Since before the Factions Wars had even begun, it was where the Empire had fortified its presence. It was where the First Order made their return. It was where travel to and from Jabiim always centered. Its walls were high, its shields, strong. No one got in or out of Choal since the time that Moff Demmings took over. Then one day, the shields that were always there were just... gone. And when it did, those towering walls suddenly didn't seem so insurmountable. For years, an entire population thought they were all resigned to death, then overnight, hope appeared.

But the hope here was a finite thing. If you wanted to live, that meant the others would have to die. And by this point, no one was going to get a taste of hope then accept its denial without a fight. And so we fought. All of us, or maybe just most of us. When word got out, Factions from all over Jabiim charged for Choal, trying to take control of the city. Wave after wave, day after day, week after week, every faction threw the full weight of what they had left into this last hope. Tanks were blowing apart whole neighborhoods. Armies stormed into one another, desperately trying to take the starport at the city's center. And every day, new factions would make their play, and old factions would dig in hard, fighting to keep their territories while moving forward.

I was fourteen when the Blitz began, and when the Greater Avesta Union threw their weight at Choal. I was stationed at Kshye Square, a bombed out market center in the western part of the city, doing what I did best. Some people think snipers have singular vision; you see one man, and fire. Then you look for another. But either through the scope or away from it, I got to see the Choal Blitz as they really were; men that had become like animals, fighting over the last scraps of meat. Entire streets were blanketed with the dead. Less than two weeks passed before diseases started breaking out on grand scales. In truth, I think we all knew where we were going. We might as well just make our deaths quicker, doing what we did best.”[/float_right][/gfont]

[gfont=Rationale]Casmir Travaran could very well be defined as a bitter, resentful and angry individual, even if he takes care not to display it to those around him. Casmir also hates his own people, who he sees as also being the case for his condition, and goes out of his way to hunt Jabiimi when available.[/gfont]

Please update your biography to conform to the new 1,500 word limit.
You may post the remainder of his information in a separate Workshop thread or Chronicle thread and link for reference.

@MatureContentWarningx I did a word count check, and it came out to 1,417 words. By any chance, were you including quotations? Because those aren't part of the biography, they're commentary flavoring and are entirely skippable. If that's a problem, I can just delete them.

So, here is the deal. The information that you are using as the base of your profile is all legends material, which we are not approving for this timeline.
The First Order was eliminated 100 years ago and thus there wouldn't be an imperial presence on Jabiim, let alone an entire mining operation left behind to war over. Even if we could approve legends material with a lore write up, these events happened 8 months after the Battle of Yavin, so we definitely are in the wrong time frame.
This needs to be fixed.

The abbreviations used are also considered in the 1,500 word limit for your profile as they are required to be read before approval. This needs to be eliminated for future revisions.

Tag me once this is completed for review.

The only legends info I used was for the names geographical places. I didn't think that'd be an issue; I'll change it. I made up everything else, I didn't take it from Legends.

They weren't on Jabiim. I looked things over and found a few locations where I hadn't articulated well enough, but there is no First Order/Imperial presence on Jabiim. I'm not sure what the latter part of this quote is talking about, however. Aside from the historical bits (which I'll delete, per quotations below) none of this takes place anywhere near the period of the Battle of Yavin.

@Korvo

There's a lot going on in this profile so I am going to try and be brief.

The main issue is that you have a sprawling multi-decades long civil war in your grimdark biography. These are not the trials of an individual but of an entire planet. This is especially problematic given that the past century of galactic history has been relatively peaceful with minor planetary conflicts being the worst it's gotten. This reads like Warhammer 40k with a few Star Wars names and words thrown in to try and fit the setting.

If you're dead set on this background you need to submit a lore write up spanning the conflict and explaining the background and the planetary consequences for Jabiim or submit a fanon planet creation. There is too much here for a character submission to contain.

So basically, slice out stuff that isn't directly relevant to the character? I tried to keep that to a minimum, with only little bits to give context, but if you'd prefer it not be there, I can get rid of it. (I've never gotten into Warhammer anything, so I'm not super-clear on the comparison).

I might have misinterpreted the setting; I'd assumed the peace was relative to galactic affairs, not planetary ones (ie, Nar Shaddaa or Tatooine would still be terrible places to live), but if the setting meant to imply that planets themselves galaxy-wide were peaceful as a whole, then it might be more ideal to scrap the character altogether.

Tatooine has slaves and Nar Shaddaa has crime and gang violence and are both relatively terrible places to live. But what they dont have is decades of open warfare and multiple slaughters of large civilian populations.

Honestly it may be best to consider a new character concept. If you want to go with the concept of the child raised in violence and struggle maybe consider gangland struggles or a moisture farm community struggling against natives like a Tusken tribe.

This one doesn't either, I got rid of it. But I wasn't trying to make an equivalency between civil war, gang violence and slavery, I was trying to understand the setting as to what kind of backgrounds would be reasonable (ie; what is mean by "calm"). It's the moot point though

That's what I was thinking, as it seems like multiple aspects of this character's foundation aren't permissible. Even if I were to go with your suggested alternatives (appreciate that btw), the way that I approach and develop characters through these events would probably land me in the same situation as I'm in now. You can archive him, bud.
