Carrick was probably not the most welcome party to most of these meetings these days - he was a symbol of the ISC's military-industrial complex and he was damn proud of that fact. It gave him a lot of headaches and made him a lot of enemies but it was to be his mark on the history of the Galaxy so he didn't care.

He had hung at the back for a long time during the debate, sending text messages back and forth with his head of security and with a few arms companies he wanted to connect with. Politics on this level were interesting when they impacted him and his people - when they didn't he didn't care at all. So the preamble of introductions was entirely skipped in his mind.

The medal for Aezz got a bare nod.

The wookiee deserved something for his service and even if this turned out to be a token, it was something. Probably nowhere near as much as he warranted but who was ever as respected as they deserved to be during their time?

The mention of the war against the Sith gained his full attention.

That it was a call for peace?

Expected.

Unwelcome to Carrick but expected at the very least. He had been preparing for peace for awhile now, no longer ramping up production of war materials but instead focusing on keeping everything running as it was. Maintaining a holding pattern until the order came to either stand down or finish the fight. Peace had been offered by Emryc, or at least the chance of it, before now but it seemed that someone was finally willing to actually engage.

He breathed through his teeth at the terms presented - they were far too generous as far as he was concerned. As the victors (internal strife causing a near collapse was a failure in his mind and the ISC had held together stronger than the Sith and their Imperials), he thought that there should have been more to show for it. But, ultimately, Emryc was mirroring the will of the population and war fatigue was massive.

The call to see some of the enemy viewed as war criminals was something of a step further... but one Carrick could not agree to on principle.

Were the actions war crimes?

Yes.

Did the Galactic Senate, a motley assortment of governments and single planets, have a Court set up to actually bring those crimes to trial?

Absolutely not.

Which would mean the responsibility of trials for these people would either be given to the Imperials themselves (bound to be lenient) or a hastily assembled collection of representatives from the Galactic Senate not legally empowered to dish out punishment for said crimes. Still, it was something to keep his eyes on so Carrick didn't say anything either way, instead watching the proceedings with his full attention once again.

The old man once again lingered on Levik's mind. The Grand Moff of the Diplomatic Corps had decided not to attend the Galactic Senate himself for these talks and the Commander was beginning to realize why. Davik Emer-Drast was rumored to become the new face of the Empire and it was a bad look, with all these camera-drones watching, to have to stand there and listen to these senators holding them responsible for the atrocities committed by the Sith Order.

Levik had killed more Sith than these senators had even seen. It was clear that the Governor of Llanic didn't understand what it meant to stand next to a Sith Lord and be told to shoot, or be shot. He wanted the Imperial men and women that still suffered from the traumatic experiences they endured, to be put to trial and endure it all again? It was an utter disgrace. Levik would not stand for it, he would.. his datapad bleeped.. and as he read the message, coming straight from the Imperial Council, he let out a sigh and motioned for the Speaker to unmute his microphone, for he had more talking to do.

"The Empire recognizes the worry as voiced by the Governor of Llanic," he really did his best to sound respectful as he did it, "and will comply with his wishes. We will supply a formally appointed tribunal the names and ranks of the war criminals that were involved in the atrocities at Kashyyyk and Firrerre. Furthermore, a fund will be created to compensate its victims." To some this capitulation would be shocking for sure, the empire simply complying to the wishes from the Independent Systems Consortium and the Galactic Senate, but in truth, as the losing party in an intergalactic war, crippled as it was by the sanctions, they had no real choice in the matter.

"and we will go even further, to prove to the Galaxy that we, freed from the evil acts of the Sith Order, stand united in the pursuit of peace," he delivered it as if he had a bombshell to announce, one that would surely interest the Hyperlane Herald and those that were critics of the New Empire. "For we will request the aid of the Jedi Order and go to Dathomir to arrest the Sith Empress Darth Andruil, doing whatever is necessary as we face off against one of the Galaxy's most powerful Force users," who, as the entire galaxy knew, had claimed responsibility for both the atrocities of Kashyyyk and Firrerre. "To be tried by the same tribunal of the Galactic Senate." and not a mock-trial executed by the Empire itself as they would no doubt strip her of the Force, torture her into submission and then execute her on a live broadcast. No, it would all be done how the Galactic Senate wished it. So did decide the Imperial Council.

Thus far, Galek lingered amongst the rest of the Consortium delegation, hands knitted together within his designated pod. Despite the collapse of both the New Republic and Alliance, the Vice President remained a staunch supporter of the Galactic Senate - if only for the sake of appearances. Now more than ever, the institution was seen as a beacon of stability and cooperation by trillions across the Galaxy, and it only benefited the image of the Consortium that they remained consistent.

Galek was adorned in the traditional styles of his homeworld - donning an embroidered Sherwani with crimson dupatta draped over his shoulder. His dark hair was neatly styled into place, ringers adorned with a multitude of gemstone rings.

The Vice President was silent for much of the negotiations taking place - hazel eyes flicking between Emryc and Levik. The parameters of any peace deal had been heavily discussed amongst the ISC Executive Council, and Galek had little to add to the discourse.

No. Instead, his attention was firmly affixed to the proposal that Governor Archer had brought to the floor - and the subsequent response that Levik supplied. It frankly didn’t matter who sat the tribunal, in Galek’s mind. The effects that it would have across the New Empire would be felt all the same.

The Sith had already been exiled. The most fanatical officers gone with them. Those that remained were officers, loyal to the Empire and the causes that Warmaster Din espoused - irrelevant to the massacres they were obligated to carry out by Sith Masters. Imperial Knights, who had given up their ties to the Order and served proudly within the Empire. That is whom the tribunal was designed for. That is who would be drug in front of the Galaxy, made to account for the massacre of an entire sentient species and millions on Kashyyyk. The latter having occurred nearly two decades ago.

Galek had no doubt, such a tribunal would only destabilize the Empire further. It would cause officers and soldiers to flee, give rise to Warlords and damage morale - without giving any thought to the monumental task of hunting down the former Sith Empress.

It would make life difficult for the only other Galactic government in the Senate, and ultimately paid right into the Consortium’s hands. Could Levik not see that? Or perhaps the man’s desire for decent HoloNet coverage outweighed his senses. Galek didn’t particularly know or care.

Internally pleased, the Vice President finally rose from his seat. “Let me be the first to applaud this proposal by Governor Archie. And to commend Commander Karn on his staunch commitment to correcting the errors of the past Empire.”

“It is my fervent hope that this tribunal will bring us one step closer to achieving justice for the people of Firrerre and Kashyyyk.”
Millions of whom, naturally, had become refugees in Consortium space.

The idea of a commission to deal with the Sith crimes was a noble one and something that she supported. The main difficulty would have been first knowing who was responsible, but then an even harder challenge would be extradition. Both of these were solved by the Imperial representative's offer and thus turned the idea from fantasy into a plausible, actionable plan.

"We applaud the Empire's commitment to finding peace in this difficult time, and we would also like to thank the steady hand of President Thorne. Through him, the ISC has conducted a powerful blow against tyranny and for that the Galaxy is in your debt."

The talk of hunting down the former empress was akin to stepping on a hornet's nest, as far as Victoria was concerned. "Do we even know if the former empress lives? Perhaps she has disappeared alongside the other former leaders of the Sith? Even so, is there not a more pressing concern for us? The Scourge of Ithor remains free and every second he does, another world remains at risk of being next."

Fuck this was boring. Charlotte had nearly forgotten the sheer amount of talking each session involved. Round and round they went without accomplishing very much. The Republic did not exist, the Free Worlds did not exist, the Jedi weren’t here what exactly where they trying to accomplish. She found her mind drifting back to Raze. So much more interesting. She seriously doubted anyone here might kill her on a whim.

Charlotte let her gaze fall around the room. Well, she was fairly sure anyways. The power she wielded with the Free Worlds disbanded was considerable. The Consortium, Commenor, and the alliance with Onderon gave her weight but how she was entirely uncertain how to use it. Luckily, the Queen Mother was presented with a truly golden opportunity. She stood after the blabbering of her former Free World collaborator. Charlotte stood smoothly.

“The Scourge of Ithor?” The Queen Mother clicked her tongue. “Come now, Senator, we all know why Ithor drew such ire.” She cast her eyes about the chamber again. “It is the same as all the times before. Ithor opened their door to the Jedi and suffered the bloody consequences. I hardly think the rest of us need worry.” She waved a hand dismissively. “The Jedi have long been banished from this body. We should not concern ourselves with their problems. Do we all not have enough of our own?” She went to sit down. “I know I certainly do.” And one of them was that very scourge.

"Much as I wish that it were not the case," Caliban chimed in after the Hapan Queen-Mother had said her bit, "I agree with the Queen-Mother. Coruscant at least does not have the resources to fix our own problems and also support a wild goose chase for someone we know little about. If you bring the former Empress to trial, set up a tribunal, and actually try to bring her to justice then we will do what we can to help. We owe that to the people who suffered because of her actions. But beyond that, I am sorry but Coruscant cannot in any way support a hunt for this Scourge of Ithor. We must heal before we can move on the offensive against anyone.

If it wasn't on the agenda, it couldn't be codified, and therefore Emryc didn't care about it. He was too busy to listen to Senators pontificate about ideals, so he formally excused himself and left.

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl liked the talk of reparations from the Empire, especially since it would help in returning the thousands of Wookiees eager to return home to Kashyyyk after they had been resettled on ISC worlds following the bombardment. Unlike the Firrerre who had no planet to return to, Kashyyyk was beginning to heal; and with the planet's regrowth came a strong desire from many of its refugees to return home. Of course, Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl would've preferred that the atrocities of that fateful day had never occurred, but being able to rebuild on the Empire's credit line would have to suffice.

The topic then shifted to the Scourge of Ithor, causing the Wookiee to frown as some advocated for leaving the Jedi alone. He understood the desire to focus on one's own planet, but Charlotte's words- as they often did- rankled him. The aged Senator toggled his microphone, even as he noticed the President of the ISC leaving early, forcing himself to remain calm.

"Have you already forgotten that it was a weakened and isolated Jedi Order that made the Sith confident enough to attack the ISC?" Surely such recent history could not be ignored, and this time it was more than the FWA who had lost lives against the Sith. "The people of Correllia did not open their door to the Jedi, and the Sith still attacked. If the past has taught us anything, it's that once the Sith grow bold enough no one is safe.." His speech didn't matter; the most powerful man in the galaxy had already left. "Thanks to the efforts of Warmaster Din and the ISC" he continued, hoping he'd used the correct title for the Tiefling, "the Sith are less of a threat than before- we should use that to our every advantage while we seek to bring them to justice for their crimes against the galaxy."

Bjorn Sune had never been to Coruscant before, nor had he ever attended a Senate session before. Technically it wasn't his place to attend now, as he was just one of several Telosian Ambassadors. The current Senator of Telos had insisted Bjorn accompany him, however and so here he was.

Upon arriving on the vast city planet, he had been overwhelmed by the technology everywhere and endless towering buildings. He literally couldn't even see the ground! Having now sat through what seemed like most of the Senate session, he was also feeling awed by that whole experience.

Bjorn was duly impressed by the honors awarded the senator of Kashyyk, a wookie with an unpronounceable name. When the talking moved to more serious matters, the young Ambassador found himself sitting at the edge of his seat in the Telosian pod - eager not to miss a single word or nuance. He was still finding his footing in the world of the galactic Senate. Though he had excelled in the government of his home planet of Telos from a very young age - his current position being a testament to that very skill - he had never been exposed to so many different leaders all at once before. Sure, he'd had talks with leaders and ambassadors from other planets in his current station, but those were usually small get togethers or one on one conversations. Not at all like this.

He did his best to keep track of the conversation and was constantly referring to the datapad in his hands to remind him of who each person who spoke was and which planet or organization they were a part of. Bjorn sat behind Erik Ganson, the senator of Telos. The big man was Bjorn's mentor, teacher, example, confidante, and father figure. Had been for many years. He owed almost all of his political reputation to the senator, who had recognized Bjorn's natural talent early on and took the orphaned boy under his wing.

Bjorn Sune thought back on the senator's remarks just before they had entered this session. Erik had told him the current governor of Telos was soon to retire and that he wanted Bjorn to fill that role when he did.

In Hugo's mind, if the 'Scourge of Ithor' or the Sith doesn't bother the ISC, then the ISC shouldn't try to take action against them. The war with the Sith and Empire is done isn't it not? If the Empire wants to get the Jedi to go to the ends of the galaxy to try and get the former empress - who is said to be very powerful - and the 'Scourge of Ithor' - who killed a whole bunch of jedi and brought down an entire herdship - at their own peril, more power to them. The ISC can be doing more productive things like expanding, strengthening itself, and making more profit. The other senators do remember that the ISC only went to war with the Sith Empire because they were attacked, not for morality's sake, right?

The colonial governor would say nothing, not caring for this squabble, he would look at the agenda one more time, and looks like the Empire surrendering was the only thing on it, and they already did. Hugo would check his chrono, he thinks he's about checked out for the session.

So with that, he would take his things from his pod, and nudge his litigator droid to go with him.
