Species Type: Canon

Name: Catuman

Biology:
Catuman are large well built humanoid felines covered in fur of varying thickness and colour depending on where in the world and environment they are born in and adapt to. Physically they are impressive, featuring dense bone and musculature to compensate for the somewhat heavier gravity of the planet they live on. They stand easily between 1.7 to 2.2 meters in height (5ft 5in to 7ft 2in) which adds to their intimidating demeanour, not to mention the razor sharp retractable claws and sharp teeth they possess. Their bodies behave in a similar fashion to that of most felines, with large pointed ears, thick tails for added balance and can help steer them when they are running at high speed. The lifespan of an average Catuman with good environmental factors, health and general upkeep can reach roughly 200 years, though some can beat back the doors of death for longer; however such individuals are considered to be extremely venerable. All Catuman have the ability to see in the dark, much like most felines can however colour fades out for night vision, making the difference between red and blue much tougher without proper light. Their sexes do differ from male to female in a similar manner to what it does with humans, except when it comes to physical strength. Male and female Catumen tend to be fairly equal in this regard; some anthropologists suspect this development due to their warrior based lifestyle. Their bodies are highly adaptable to changes in climate, taking a few months for the fur to thin out or grow thicker to accommodate hotter or colder climates.

Breeding:
Like most humanoid races (Fishpeople aside); Catumen reproduce through sexual intercourse. With the female of the species capable of breeding most of the year round through a simple bi monthly cycle. Though copulation is possible with other aliens of the galaxy they are really only capable of breeding with themselves or with other similar felinoid races such as the Trinaii, Cathar or even the Horansi. That doesn't mean a man or woman cannot enjoy sex with a human or even a Zeltron, just don't expect kids from it and maybe some pain if protection isn't used. Most commonly a parent may have one cub, though twins can be fairly common and triplets a rarity. They have an eight month gestation cycle where the cub is born with their eyes closed and relatively helpless for the first month, however at two months the cub is able to see properly, hear and do pretty much everything a normal child of that age can. At age One they are able to walk and balance on their own and by age two they can eat solid food as their baby teeth come through. This also tends to have the unfortunate need to chew on /everything/. Males begin to develop sexually and undergo puberty starting at age twelve whilst young girls start at around age eleven. Full physical maturation finishes around the age of Twenty standard years for men and Nineteen standard years for women, at this point they are fully physically developed and capable. Though they are not considered into their prime until easily the late Forties and fifties.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Catumen are known as some of the deadliest killers in the galaxy and this reputation is very much an earned one. They feature excellent strength and endurance, which stems from the increased gravity of the planet and the deadly fauna that prowl through the forests of the world. The dense bone and Musculature does come at a price though, even with their felinoid reflexes coming into play they are somewhat slower and heavier than the average humanoid and as such they need to work much harder to build speed and refine their builds. Their bodies sport rapid healing abilities in the form of limited regeneration, allowing them to recover from a variety of injuries much faster than most which has added to their longevity. Against this their metabolic rate is increased, requiring them to consume larger quantities of food. Along with being able to hear higher and lower frequencies Catuman feature acute hearing, allowing them to pick up on sounds combine that with their acute sense of smell and their keen eye sight make for exceptional hunters. On the other hand, naturally this leads to certain vulnerabilities to them. Namely flashbangs, sonic weapons and the like can be rather unfortunate on the receiving end.

Diet:
Catuman follow a strong carnivorous diet with a little bit of vegetation included with it to make up for any vitamins and minerals they are unable to obtain from their meat based diet. Though with advances in technology have allowed for meat substitutes to be produced to replace meat where needed.

Behaviour and Temperament:
Catuman are a very loyal species to both their leaders and to a lesser degree employers and friends that they have made. They are however known for being blunt and to the point, sometimes being considered rather taciturn in nature and if you pick a fight with one, good luck with trying to escape it with your body intact.

Communication:
They communicate through Cathalan, a language based on a combination of vocal and body language requiring both to be fully utilised for you to get your message across, Scent also plays a role in communication. It also comes in its own form of alphabet naturally. Catumen often also learn Galactic Basic and various trade languages.

Culture:
Catumen are a race that predominantly exist around a warrior based culture, from their Kings through to the workers each individual is a trained warrior from an early age. Children are taught self defence from a young age and up, though certainly capable of pursuing other goals throughout their childhood the idea of defending oneself is always paramount. Not only that, they respect those with strength and through ritualised duels and combat can this be proven. Note that not all respect strength in the physical sense, one can have strength in other arenas. Granted this is not the sole thing their culture is based around though. Their intense focus on that strength often pushes them to pursue other careers and do their damndest to come out at the very best they can be. They don't believe in gods or deities, having cast off such superstition long ago and embraced more toward science and practicality, after all. Magic and mysticism don't get you into space. Traditionally they often have festivals throughout the year with festivals celebrating Life and Death as the major festivals celebrated during spring and Autumn. Their culture also teaches them not to over-reach and push yourself to far beyond your limits, sure take a chance to see if you can do it but do not do so at the expense of others. Culturally money is not as highly valued in their culture, acquisition like that breeds greed and weakness which does not constitute to a stronger individual or society.

History:
Catumen have had a rough history dating back to their prehistoric days where they were simple clans and tribesmen warring over lands, mates and treasures. It wasn't until much later during their industrial age did they find that their warring nature with one another needed to be quelled and a strong leader to come forward and direct their collective will into something beyond violence. One Warlord took it upon themselves to unite the world under one banner and through a four year campaign across the planet, did exactly that. Starting the first hereditary Monarchy and a new age of development for the species as a whole. Advancing into a space faring species they quickly mastered their destiny in space, employing their combined military prowess and drive for expansion into developing advanced space-faring technology. They rapidly colonised their system and expanded into several systems around them to form a small empire of their own within the sector.

Within three hundred years of being in space they encountered the Republic and the galactic community as a whole. They quickly assimilated into it, with skirmishes with surrounding species for colonisable worlds earning them a rather fierce reputation as deadly fighters and combatants. Only recently have they joined the republic after fending off a small Sith assault during the last War. Not wanting their might turned into something of a vassal world of the Sith Empire and used as nothing more than tools for them, they begrudgingly joined the Sith with the current aging King not wanting to see their world fall in such a manner.

Planet:
Calat II (Link is following)

Technology:
Their technology is on par with the galactic standard in all areas bar two. Their weapons technology is considered to be extremely well crafted and rugged, though not for aesthetics and more for practicality they are exceptionally sturdy, capable of taking punishment where other weapons of similar make would fail. Through advancements in their armour used for starships and personal equipment, their metallurgy is near second to none. Having contributed to the galactic scene with some advances in metal composites and alloys that are sturdier than what was normally found. However it does come at a higher cost.

Intent:
My intent is to bring in a species that has had very little fleshing out and bring them forward so that others may utilize them in a fun and interesting manner. They're also my first in writing this out so its an experiment to see how they are employed.

Honestly, I'm not seeing much here to differentiate this species from the other feline aliens in Star Wars like the Cathar or Farghul.
